2010 SUBARU TRIBECA Complaints and Recall Information

The 2010 Subaru Tribeca has 0 complaints and 11 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to safety components based on recall data, although no individual complaints have been recorded for this model year.

Eleven recalls affect this model involving several vehicle systems including exterior lighting, door latches, hood latches, and air bag inflators. Many recalls pertain to safety-related defects requiring dealer repairs or part replacements at no cost to owners.

Recalls
  • Exterior lighting. NHTSA recall 12V602000 affects 633,842 vehicles with defective accessory puddle lights. Moisture intrusion can cause a short circuit, generating heat that may melt plastic and cause smoke or fire. Subaru will install an additional fused-harness free of charge.
  • Door latch cables. Recall 10V108000 covers 1,585 vehicles where cables inside driver and front passenger doors were improperly positioned. This can cause doors to unlatch unexpectedly or latch failure, risking occupant ejection or inability to exit. Subaru will reposition and secure the cables free of charge.
  • Passenger air bag inflators (Zone A). Recall 16V358000 involves 302,127 vehicles with inflators prone to rupture during deployment due to propellant degradation from long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes. Metal fragments may cause serious injury or death. Subaru will replace the inflators free of charge.
  • Hood latch and safety system. Recalls 16V060000 (WQX-59 and WQY-60) affect 77,017 vehicles. A faulty hood safety and lock system may cause the hood to open unexpectedly while driving, obstructing visibility and increasing crash risk. Repairs include inspection, cleaning, lubrication, and possible part replacement. An improved system will be installed in two phases.
  • Passenger air bag inflators (TKA-17). Recall 17V014000 covers 53,480 vehicles with inflators that can rupture similarly to recall 16V358000. Subaru will replace the air bag inflators at no cost starting March 6, 2017.
  • Passenger air bag inflators (TKA-18). Recall 18V012000 affects 64,179 vehicles. The air bag inflator defect and risks match previous recalls. Subaru will replace inflators free of charge beginning February 9, 2018.
  • Passenger air bag inflators (TKB-18). Recall 18V013000 involves 93,209 vehicles. The inflator defect is consistent with other recalls. Dealers will replace faulty inflators free of charge from February 2018.
  • Passenger air bag inflators (TKA-19). Recall 19V007000 affects 43,394 vehicles with inflators prone to explosion from environmental degradation. Sharp metal fragments may seriously injure occupants. Subaru will conduct free replacements starting January 25, 2019.
  • Passenger air bag inflators (TKB-19). Recall 19V008000 includes 330,120 vehicles with the same air bag inflator defect. Subaru will replace affected inflators free of charge starting January 25, 2019.
  • Passenger air bag inflators (TKC-19). Recall 19V009000 covers 452,630 vehicles. Inflators may explode upon deployment due to propellant degradation, risking passenger injury. Replacement of inflators began January 25, 2019 at no cost.

Owners facing repeated repairs or unresolved recall-related defects with this vehicle may have rights under their state lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney could help protect consumer interests in such cases.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Subaru is recalling certain model year 2010 and 2011 Legacy and Outback vehicles, certain model year 2006 through 2012 Tribeca vehicles sold before January 2012, and certain model year 2009 through 2012 Forester vehicles sold before January 2012. Up to 78,650 of these vehicles may have been equipped with accessory puddle lights that, when illuminated, brighten the area under the doors of the vehicle. A short circuit can develop when either the puddle light or connector are exposed to an electrolytic moisture source (such as road spray that has road salt in it) and it penetrates the circuit board of the puddle light or the pins of the puddle light connector(s).

Risk: Over time, migration of the moisture into the circuit board and/or into the connector cavity, may result in a short circuit of the puddle light system. This may generate heat which may melt the plastic resulting in smoke or fire.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH

SUBARU HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA ABOUT A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 TRIBECA PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 4, 2009 THROUGH MARCH 8, 2010. THE DOOR LATCH CABLES LOCATED INSIDE THE VEHICLE'S DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER DOORS WERE IMPROPERLY POSITIONED DURING PRODUCTION. AS A RESULT, A CABLE CAN CATCH IN THE DOOR GLASS REGULATOR WHEN A WINDOW IS OPENED OR CLOSED. SHOULD THAT OCCUR, IT MAY UNLATCH THE DOOR, CAUSING IT TO COME OPEN UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN RAISING OR LOWERING THE WINDOW.

Risk: IF A DOOR WERE TO UNLATCH, IT COULD OPEN SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING, CREATING A RISK THAT AN OCCUPANT COULD BE EJECTED AS WELL AS A RISK THAT THE DRIVER MAY BECOME DISTRACTED, LEADING TO A CRASH. THIS CONDITION MAY ALSO RESULT IN THE FAILURE OF A DOOR LATCH TO OPERATE, IN WHICH CASE OCCUPANTS WOULD BE UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR TO EXIT THE VEHICLE.
