2014 SUBARU IMPREZA Complaints and Recall Information
The 2014 SUBARU IMPREZA has 8 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with door locks that engage automatically while the vehicle is running, trapping occupants inside, and problems with the park position switch causing the key to become stuck. Other complaints include engine failure and malfunctioning seat belts.
Common Issues- Automatic door locking failure. Doors lock while the car is running, causing occupants to be trapped inside and spare keys fail to unlock the doors, requiring locksmith intervention.
- Detached front bumper. The front bumper detaches from the vehicle without warning lights activating.
- Park position switch malfunction. The ignition key gets stuck when attempting to remove it in Park due to a failing switch, affecting vehicle operation.
- Engine failure. Broken valve spring and damaged rod bearings result in loss of power and render the vehicle undrivable.
- Seat belt locking mechanism faults. Seat belt locks fail to engage immediately and sometimes cannot be unlocked easily, increasing safety concerns.
Four recalls are associated with this model year affecting the brake light switch, secondary air injection pump relay, engine valve springs, and electrical systems. These recalls address safety and engine performance systems.
Recalls- Brake light switch. (NHTSA 19V149000) Approximately 1,303,530 vehicles affected due to brake light switch contamination causing lights to fail and preventing keyless ignition start or shifting from Park. Risk involves increased crash potential. Dealers replace the switch free of charge.
- Secondary air injection pump relay. (NHTSA 16V738000) Around 100,127 vehicles with turbo engines can experience relay failure causing the pump to overheat and possibly cause a fire. Dealers replace the relay at no charge.
- Engine valve springs. (NHTSA 18V772000) About 165,534 vehicles have valve springs that can fracture causing engine stalls and possible crash risk. Subaru replaces valve springs free of charge.
Owners facing repeated repairs, unresolved recall issues, or safety defects might have rights under their state’s lemon law and should consider consulting a legal professional specializing in consumer protection and automotive defect cases.
