2007 PONTIAC VIBE Complaints and Recall Information
The 2007 Pontiac Vibe has 4 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with sudden engine revving and unintended acceleration at low speeds, including incidents during parking. One complaint involves a crash caused by the vehicle drifting and veering unexpectedly, resulting in fatal injuries.
Common Issues- Sudden engine revving. Vehicle revs and lurches forward unexpectedly when driving slowly, especially during parking maneuvers.
- Unintended acceleration. Instances where the vehicle accelerates without driver input, requiring full brake pressure to stop.
- Electronic control problems. Engine control module (ECM) defects may cause harsh shifting, engine shutdown, or failure to start.
- Air bag deployment. Front driver-side air bag deployed during a crash after vehicle drifted into opposite lane; safety systems failed to prevent collision.
- Loss of vehicle control. Vehicle drifted and veered suddenly causing a multi-vehicle crash at unknown speed.
There are five recalls addressing engine control and multiple air bag inflator defects affecting safety systems. Recalls mainly involve the engine control module and front passenger air bag inflators, which may rupture or fail to deploy properly. Repair involves inspection and replacement of defective components.
Recalls- Engine Control Module. (NHTSA 10V387000) Affects 161,754 vehicles. ECM may develop cracks at solder points or varistors causing engine warning lights, harsh shifting, engine stall or shutdown while driving. Increase crash risk. Fix includes inspection and replacement of ECM free of charge.
- Front Passenger Air Bag Inflator. (NHTSA 15V285000) Includes 1,973,468 vehicles. Air bag inflator may rupture upon deployment, sending metal fragments into occupants causing serious injury or death. Dealers will replace the passenger air bag free of charge. No do not drive advisory for Pontiac Vibe.
- Front Passenger Air Bag Inflator Regional. (NHTSA 15V286000) Covers 1,069,055 vehicles in specific states and territories. Inflators susceptible to rupture during deployment. Repair requires replacement of the passenger air bag free of charge. No do not drive advisory for Pontiac Vibe owners.
- Front Passenger Air Bag Assembly Replacement. (NHTSA 19V627000) Affects 229,460 vehicles with previously replaced air bags. Air bag may not inflate properly under high temperatures increasing injury risk. Fix involves replacement of the front passenger air bag assembly.
- Front Passenger Air Bag Inflator Explosion. (NHTSA 18V883000) Includes 168,993 vehicles. Propellant degradation in inflator may cause explosion sending metal fragments into occupants causing serious injury or death. Dealers to replace inflator or entire air bag assembly free of charge.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs involving unintended acceleration or air bag defects should consider reviewing their rights under state lemon laws. Those with unresolved recall issues might be entitled to additional remedies under consumer protection laws.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2003-2008 Corolla, 2005-2008 Corolla Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a front passenger air bag assembly replaced under a prior recall. The air bag may not unfold as designed during inflation under high temperature conditions, possibly resulting in the air bag not inflating properly.
Risk: An improperly inflated air bag increases the risk of injury during a crash.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2002-2005 Lexus SC and Toyota Sequoia, 2003-2005 Toyota Corolla and Tundra, and 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation.
Risk: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015, that they are recalling 2005-2007 Lexus SC, Toyota Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Sequoia, and Pontiac Vibe, and 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra vehicles that were originally sold, or ever registered, in Florida, along the Gulf Coast, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan and American Samoa. On June 16, 2015 Toyota expanded the recall to cover an additional 769,055 vehicles, including certain model year 2002-2004 Lexus SC, Toyota Sequoia, 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla Matrix, Toyota Corolla, Pontiac Vibe, and Toyota Tundra vehicles, as well the vehicles covered by the May 13, 2015 notification in the portions of Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas that were not previously included. The inflators in the front passenger air bags are susceptible to rupture in the event of a crash necessitating the deployment of the front passenger air bag.
Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015 that they are recalling certain model year 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003, to August 19, 2004, and 2003-2004 Tundra vehicles manufactured March 18, 2003, to August 25, 2004. On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

The contact stated their fiancé owned a 2007 Pontiac Vibe. The contact stated that while their fiancé was driving, MPH unknown, the vehicle was drifting, then suddenly veered towards the opposite lane going south, causing the vehicle to crash into two vehicles in that lane. The vehicle spun from the impact and ended up in the opposite lane, stopped. The front driver-side air bag deployed. The vehicle was towed and expected to be totaled. The other two vehicles involved in the crash were towed and had damage as well. The driver of the vehicle was injured at the location, following the incident, but received medical attention on the spot. At the hospital, the driver's injuries were fatal. The contact spoke with a certified mechanic who informed them that the Forward Collision Avoidance feature seemed to fail due to other safety features in the vehicle not activating and preventing the crash. The mechanic stated the safety feature seemed to take full control of the vehicle, not allowing the driver to safely operate the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.

There were two incidents. 1. I was pulling into a parking spot at a Walmart driving very slowly, to almost reach the parking sign when the vehicle revved and lurched forward. I had to put my full pressure on the brake pedal, and eventually shifted to neutral and the revving subsided. I turned the car off and looked at the floor mat, which was in its usual position, and did not seem to be interfering with the pedal. Since this had not happened before, I rationalize that perhaps my foot had been on both the brake and accelerator. But I did not notice that my foot had slipped at all, and it was definitely on the brake when the revving occurred. 2. Today, my wife called me to tell me she had experienced the same revving while she was parking.
