43 vehicles affected

24V377000

PARKING BRAKE

Lion Electric Company (Lion Electric) is recalling certain 2024-2025 LionC school buses. The parking brake may malfunction and allow the lever to be released without pressing the release button.

Risk: A parking brake that is released unexpectedly may result in a vehicle roll away, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:PUMP

Lion Electric Company (Lion) is recalling certain 2019-2023 LionC school buses. The rubber mounts used to absorb vibrations from the main hydraulic pump may wear prematurely and fail, resulting in an unsecured pump.

Risk: An unsecured hydraulic pump can cause a loss of power steering assist. In addition, the unsecured pump may damage the low-voltage harness and result in the loss of high voltage power. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Lion Electric Company (Lion) is recalling certain 2019-2025 LionC hybrid electric school buses. The surge tank may move and crack the firewall, allowing the tank to contact and damage the high-voltage cables.

Risk: Damaged high-voltage cables can shut down the high-voltage circuit, causing a loss of steering assistance or drive power and reducing braking power, increasing the risk of a crash.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I was experiencing low voltage inside the School bus , erratic lighting and 2 way radio was cycling on and off due to LOW VOLTAGE. I noticed the smell of smoke inside the school bus, upon further investigation, I opened the hood and noticed smoke rising from the positive electrical "pass Through" 12-volt connector on the driver side. apparently, the connector insulator failed and was shorting to the body and was getting extremely hot and could cause a fire. the connector on the inside of the bus, under the dash, was blackened from the heat. i have a photo of it. I took the bus out of service and notified LION Bus about the problem, they ordered parts and sent a technician out to repair it. I have a video of the smoking connector. This issue could cause a School Bus fire. I will try to send the photos and video. If I cannot send them please reach out with a good e-mail address to send them.
