STEERING

The contact owns a 2012 Lincoln MKT. The manufacturer scheduled an appointment with the dealer on the contact's behalf; however, the dealer declined to perform the repair. I am submitting this complaint regarding a recurring safety issue with the rear-view camera system in my 2014 Lincoln MKT. The camera intermittently fails to display a proper image when the vehicle is placed in reverse. Specifically, the screen either remains blank, displays a distorted image, or inverts the image entirely. These malfunctions significantly impair rear visibility and pose a safety hazard, particularly in environments with limited space or pedestrian traffic. I have narrowly avoided several incidents with other vehicles or pedestrians, due to this camera malfunction. I am aware that Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for similar rear-view camera defects affecting various models from the 2015 to 2019 production years. However, my vehicle—despite exhibiting identical symptoms—is not currently included in that recall. Given the nature of the defect and its potential to compromise driver and pedestrian safety, I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate this issue and consider expanding the scope of the existing recall to include the 2014 Lincoln MKT. I had an independent service center check the camera. The ASE-certified technician explained the issue appears to be a software problem that can only be handled by a Lincoln dealer. When I contacted a dealership, they said they were not aware of any fixes for the problem. When the camera malfunctions, a message pops up on my information screen in the vehicle that tells me "Camera is unavailable" and to "Contact the dealer." There were no other warning messages or lamps of any kind. I am prepared to provide photographic or video evidence of the malfunction upon request and am willing to cooperate with any further inquiries or inspections deemed necessary. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.

SUSPENSION

Both rear driver and passenger side toe links were replaced at Colonial Ford in Connecticut due to the recall. The driver side is fine, the defective part installed at Colonial Ford is the passenger side. This should be covered by Colonial Ford, as I'm at no fault for the time it took to find this defect which is not apparent until you place the vehicle on a lift and perform a professional inspection. There are no warning lamps or messages to alert the owner there is a defective part that could cause a life threatening accident with a replaced suspension part. Both Lincoln and Colonial Ford state there's nothing they can do because the replacement recall part is out of warranty, 1yr./12,000. I'd driven less than 3,000 miles when the defective replacement was found during a multi-point inspection at a different dealership. Also, the left rear toe link is fine, which proves the problem is with that specific part. Now I'm stuck with a future out of pocket replacement cost and I'm driven around with a recalled part that's more dangerous than the original. NHTSA and Lincoln should hold dealerships accountable when a life or death situation is created with an installed replacement part during a recall. Not wait for a person to get killed in an accident or a lawsuit to correct a recall replacement part defect.

Rearview camera image malfunctioning when the car is in reverse. Multiple issues with the rearview camera are: Frozen display, fuzzy display, reverse imaging, or no image displayed at all. This is creating a false representation of where my vehicle is relative to it's surroundings, thus highly increasing the risk of a crash and/or bodily injury and/or death. There currently are new recall number(s) associated with this malfunctioning safety hazard, one with the NHTSA recall number 25V-315 & Fords recall number 25S49 for these faulty rearview cameras. These are for select models & years only, and does not include my year nor model. [2015, Lincoln MKT Livery] Please, please, please expand the recall to include my year, make, and model. As lives depend on your oversite. Please add other years, makes & models to the recall list before an accident and/or injury occurs.

There is a recall for this on different VIN for this year and car, but not this VIN. The electric power steering locks up unable to move when you hit a bump or try to turn into somewhere or just changing lanes. This has led to almost constant accidents happening. This has been inspected by an independent service center and confirmed this is related to the recall.

Front Sunroof Exploded while driving. No one was around me nor was it bad weather. I had glass flying everywhere off the car and down the side which could have caused the paint to be scratched and or if someone would have been around me, they would have been hit with flying glass. My entire drive home the glass was falling into the liner and down the side of the car. The car has been sitting at the dealership undriveable. You could hear it crackling even after sitting in the garage for a period of time. The glass was dropping down on the liner and could have shattered all over the interior and the passengers had the liner not been closed. It could have also caused you to crash as it sounds like someone shot out a window when it happens. I was able to pull over alongside the road and asses the damages after calming down a bit. The same day I took my car down there someone else in a ford edge had a cracked sunroof There were no prior warnings on the car to let me know of a problem and there was nothing around me at the time it exploded. the car is in perfect condition and taken care of very well. It only has 33,000 miles on it and is always garaged. I have read many articles with those experiencing the same thing with the same car and same window. I also found several posts of suits filed against Ford / Lincoln for this very same issue. The dealership did research it and agreed it is a known problem, but a recall never issued. They did contact Lincoln on my behalf, and they have denied the claim. I have seen many articles where this has happened within the first couple months to a couple years out, but it is always the front sunroof. there is clearly a design problem with the car, and it needs to be addressed. This is a situation where a crash could have been caused, or someone seriously injured inside the car because of a defective design in the sunroof of Lincoln's MKT
