2015 LINCOLN MKT Complaints and Recall Information

The 2015 LINCOLN MKT has 3 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the front sunroof spontaneously shattering while driving and problems with the rearview camera system including distorted or frozen images, which affects visibility in reverse. The sunroof failure poses a risk of injury from flying glass, and the rearview camera malfunction increases the risk of collision when backing up.

Common Issues

  • Sunroof explosion. The front sunroof has shattered unexpectedly without impact or bad weather, scattering glass around the vehicle and causing potential interior damage and safety hazards to occupants and nearby drivers.
  • Rearview camera failure. The rear camera intermittently shows distorted, frozen, or no images when the vehicle is in reverse, creating inaccurate visual feedback and increasing the risk of accidents.
  • Backover prevention sensor failure. The sensor sometimes fails to detect objects behind the vehicle when in reverse, potentially causing collisions or injuries.

Five recalls affecting multiple systems exist for the 2015 LINCOLN MKT. They address defects involving the parking brake, child seat tether installation, rear suspension components, electrical system relays, and the fuel pump. These recalls target safety-critical parts that, if not repaired, could increase crash risk or vehicle malfunction.

Recalls

  • Parking brake. Recall 15V464000 affects 7,165 vehicles and covers a parking brake that may not fully engage. Failure to hold a vehicle on a slope could cause it to roll away, increasing crash risk. Dealers will test the brake and replace the control assembly if needed at no charge. The recall started September 4, 2015.
  • Child seat tether connector. Recall 15V476000 involves 265 Lincoln MKT Town Cars with a missing second row of seats and front passenger tether anchorage. Missing restraints raise injury risk in crashes. Dealers will add the second row seating and necessary anchorage free of charge. This recall began July 28, 2015.
  • Rear suspension. Recall 20V072000 covers 211,207 vehicles with Police Interceptor or SHO Performance Pack. Rear suspension toe links may fracture, causing sudden handling changes and increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace the toe links when parts become available. The recall started October 28, 2020.
  • Electrical system. Recall 15V172000 impacts 1,549 vehicles with limousine or hearse prep packages. The vacuum pump relay may overheat, increasing fire risk. Dealers will replace the relay free of charge. This recall began July 6, 2015.
  • Fuel pump electric module. Recall 16V621000 affects 77,502 vehicles with 3.5L GTDI Ecoboost engines. The fuel pump module may overheat causing the engine to stall or fail to start, raising crash risk. Dealers will inspect and replace the module as needed at no cost. The recall started December 1, 2016.

Front Sunroof Exploded while driving. No one was around me nor was it bad weather. I had glass flying everywhere off the car and down the side which could have caused the paint to be scratched and or if someone would have been around me, they would have been hit with flying glass. My entire drive home the glass was falling into the liner and down the side of the car. The car has been sitting at the dealership undriveable. You could hear it crackling even after sitting in the garage for a period of time. The glass was dropping down on the liner and could have shattered all over the interior and the passengers had the liner not been closed. It could have also caused you to crash as it sounds like someone shot out a window when it happens. I was able to pull over alongside the road and asses the damages after calming down a bit. The same day I took my car down there someone else in a ford edge had a cracked sunroof There were no prior warnings on the car to let me know of a problem and there was nothing around me at the time it exploded. the car is in perfect condition and taken care of very well. It only has 33,000 miles on it and is always garaged. I have read many articles with those experiencing the same thing with the same car and same window. I also found several posts of suits filed against Ford / Lincoln for this very same issue. The dealership did research it and agreed it is a known problem, but a recall never issued. They did contact Lincoln on my behalf, and they have denied the claim. I have seen many articles where this has happened within the first couple months to a couple years out, but it is always the front sunroof. there is clearly a design problem with the car, and it needs to be addressed. This is a situation where a crash could have been caused, or someone seriously injured inside the car because of a defective design in the sunroof of Lincoln's MKT
