The rear brake caliper pistons on these vehicles may have an insufficient coating causing gas pockets to form, potentially reducing rear brake performance.

Risk: A reduction of braking performance can increase the risk of a crash.

The powertrain control module may be equipped with a voltage regulator chip in the circuit board that may fail, causing a stall or a no start condition.

Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, unsecured inflator mounting nuts outside of the cushion assembly are potential projectiles that may strike the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2017-2018 Jeep Compass vehicles. The brightness of the backlighting for the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) cannot be adjusted. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."

Risk: An instrument cluster that is too bright, and cannot be dimmed, can reduce the driver's ability to see at night, increasing the risk of a crash.

UNKNOWN. Saw there was recall in past for rear piston but mine was not affected. But I’m having issues with the brakes. When slowing down or coming to stop when using the brake, the whole car shakes and rattles.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the START/STOP indicator light was illuminated. The contact stated that the engine seized. While attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact had the vehicle set for approximately ten minutes and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 20 MPH. The contact stated that the Auto STOP indicator was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle could only be driven for twenty minutes before the failure reoccurred. Yes spoke to the dealer at Flow Volvo in Greensboro NC, and she know about the problem of the car also. I do see in 2017 there was a patrolman that noted the kbb about the situation. Now I was no there so I do know abything about it,just read this on the kbb information for the car. And as I have stated when you start the car the the warning lamp with the man comes on small holding the air bag and in the dashboard also. Also uploading pictures of the warning lamps.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

My driver's side headlights stops working intermittently. This occurs quite randomly. I have replaced the bulbs, the switch, and after taking it to a dealer, I ended up replacing the driver's side headlight assembly. Nothing has worked, and now I am hundreds of dollars poorer for my trouble. This is clearly a safety issue, and judging from what I have seen in online forums, there are a great many others with the same problem. This is a safety issue that falls squarely on the manufacturer to remedy, and to compensate its customers for our losses.

SEAT BELTS

Both the passenger and diver seat belts don't latch correctly. Causing them to randomly un-latch while driving or even just initially trying to latch them when getting in. There is no odd movements causing this and they sound and act as if there is no problem until the un-latch. Have had a mechanic look into it and they confirmed that isn't not an every time failure but they are unsure as to why it works and then doesn't since it functions as it's supposed to. The only warning I get for this is the unbuckled light/sound after the incident happens.

Vehicle stopped running twice at different times in crossing traffic due to what I found out later was low oil even though i had just purchased the vehicle and had only driven 2-4 thousand miles. Since then I am still burning over a quart every 1000 miles even though the dealer supposedly did the software update that some claim fixes the problem

When my oil gets low, my car shuts off in the middle of the highway. Also, when I turn my wheels, it's making a very loud clicking noise.

So I know there was a recall for this year make and model and engine type and even before I knew about this recall I noticed this jeep is burning oil like crazy I have to get an oil change sometimes under every 3,000 miles and its bad I take it to my oil change place they tell me it shouldnt be burning this much oil. I called Jeep to try to see if they could fix it and they are not acknowledging the issue even though there is a recall for this issue in the past they are not adding my VIN for some reason in the recall and my jeep is still under warranty. Please assist in getting my jeep compass added to this recall so they can remediate the safety issue. I will be driving sometimes on the highway and the cheap just stops on me because of this issue. I have two young children and it is very dangerous at times to drive like that. The Carfax can show how often I am taking my Jeep to an oil change so it is not that I am the issue and just not getting oil changes. This has been happening since i purchased the jeep.

The car's dashboard will periodically show all the lights and indicate that the car will stop. In some cases, the car does stop, and you lose power steering. When we brought it into the dealership in early April 2024, they cleared the codes and indicated that start/stop relay may need to be replaced. A few weeks later, the same thing happened and the dealership repaired the start/stop relay. Since then, the lights will periodically come on and turning it off eventually clears the codes. May 18, 2025, it happened again. On the radio, it showed P2AF5. We brought it to the dealership and while there were 30-40 codes that were showing (some active and some stored), the P2AF5 code didn't display. The dealership cleared all the codes in hopes that it would only turn on the code that caused all the other codes. No new codes displayed. They offered no further diagnostic suggestions and said to bring it back if it occurs again. Because losing power steering while driving is a safety hazard and because a lot of people on various sites indicate they have similar problems due to the start/stop relay, I want to report this issue in hopes that you can find a pattern and determine a fix.

This is a common problem with these, and I suspect it is a failed cooling fan for the infotainment unit. It is only a matter of time that the screen will be a complete failure and hopefully not during a reversing evolution. My vehicle only has 60k miles. I have not taken it to the dealer because I do not have another vehicle to drive if this is in the shop for 2 weeks just to be inspected. Feel free to investigate my vehicle for this issue.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle was losing motive power. The contact stated the message that "Engine Overheating" was displayed with an audible chime coming from the vehicle. The vehicle stalled and the contact pulled off the roadway. The contact stated that after several attempts the vehicle restarted with the same message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was like two previous failures where the engine was replaced. The contact stated that the engine replacements were covered under Technical Service Bulletin Number: 09-003-23 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact informed the dealer about the TSB and was informed by the dealer responded that the engine could be replaced but the contact had to pay out-of-pocket. The manufacturer had been attempted to be contacted but there was no response. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.

My infotainment screen did this (pictures) while I was driving. Not sure what caused this or anything. It tends to fix itself after a few minutes, but other days it does the same thing. Doesn't work then fixes itself. No warning lamps popped up. The component has not been inspected by anyone yet. I have not brought it to the dealer yet for them to recreate the problem. I have not seen a TSB on it. Since the screen does this, it is very concerning for people who use the backup camera religiously as they could run into a person in the parking of a grocery store. Now that I am aware of the problem, I make sure to take extra caution to look when backing up.

Since we’ve bought this car pre owned last year with 48,000 miles we’ve been experiencing bad engine oil consumption. I’ve tried to get it looked at by the car dealership we got this vehicle at and they couldn’t find no oil leaks. I’ve done some research myself on this topic and I have ran into information of others having this same experience with their similar vehicle and engine models. I do know that they’ve sent out recalls on this issue but my vehicle seems to not have been placed on this recall as I did speak with recalls.mopar.com seem like they can’t help me with the issue. Please if I can get any help with this issue it will be really appreciated.

When driving home after work I came up to a red light and my car completely stalled. I had the start stop system turned off at the time. The car just stalled out and acted like the car needed to be started however when I attempted to restart the car it would not start. Although I was stopped when this happened I was in the middle of traffic and could not move my car to the side of the road since it stalled out with no warning. I had to be pushed to the side of the road. After several minutes (about 5) the car started again and I drove home. No check engine lights came on at the time however the next day the check engine light came on, I took it to have it checked out and was told they were "junk codes" and the check engine light went off later that same day.

We have not taken it to a dealer cause we bought it used and it’s 62 thousand miles on the car and 60 thousand is supposedly the limit for the warranty. Car has also stalled while making turns to the left or sometimes when driving straight. At highway speeds when I have gone and tried to accelerate more I push the accelerator down and nothing happens. Then all of a sudden the car takes off with a jerk and I have to hit the brakes cause it was not expected. Auto engine shutoff failure light comes on for no reason. Continually get number 4 cylinder misfire check engine warning which disappears after the car is restarted. Consumes oil like nothing I have ever seen always adding oil. The Auto Start/Stop caused the starter to malfunction and burned out the battery and starter, causing the vehicle to stop in the middle of the highway and requiring it to be towed and now repaired. This has happened multiple times since we purchased the vehicle.

The electrical system and start/stop system has went blizzark and began loosing power going in and out of limp mode the headlights no longer work on one side and high beam isn't bright anymore I've replaced the auxiliary battery and the normal battery has begun to short circuit and cannot decide if it's full charged or down to 8volts when their began happening it was during a rainstorm and I was left stalled in mid intersection ....even a jump wouldn't fix the problem. I had it towed to my dealership where the mechanics were unable to diagnose the problem but did get it to happen again going down the highway they then also had it towed back to the shop and replaced the auxiliary battery it didn't happen again until 3 months later now it's getting worse each day i will replace the battery but then I'd like to have my electrical problems looked into but I have read many 9the people having the same issues even after the recall of an electrical chip and I wander if it shouldn't also.be replaced a second time

I had to call for the police and for a tow truck. We still could not get the car to turn off (the motor was not on but the car's electrical system was still on). We could not disengage the parking break. Finally the tow truck operator slammed the break pedal down and he was able to turn off the car. The car then started. We still towed it to the Jeep Dealership. The could not find anything wrong with the car. Approximately two weeks earlier, the same thing happened at a red light but at that time, after I waited for 10minutes I was able to get the car to turn off then on. My car has two new batteries (put in one year ago), new front breaks, new tires. The day this happened, I had actually just left Jeep from getting my oil changed. they said it was not related to that.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

I bought my vehicle in May of 2019. In May 2021 my car had 34,000 miles on it and the passenger side headlight was out. I took it to the dealership and they replaced my left headlight assembly (vehicle was under warranty). In October 2024, I noticed that my headlight on the passenger side was out again. My vehicle had 56,426 miles on it. I called the dealership (South Point Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram in Austin, TX) up to 9 times and no one responded to my calls. Due to their lack of response, I took it to a shop up the road that specializes in Jeeps. When the shop took a look at the issue, they found that both headlights were actually out. First they tried just replacing the bulbs, and that didn't work. So they replaced the entire headlight assembly on both sides. This fixed the issue for maybe 3 weeks. My headlights are still out. I took it back to the shop for help and they told me they cannot help me, as everything looks to be set up right. I have spent over $1,200 in repair costs and ubers to get this issue fixed and I am at a loss. Looks like this is a common issue with 2018 Jeep Compasses. I filed a case against Jeep and they immediately denied my case. This is very concerning given I do have to drive at night and early mornings to travel to work.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

A cable going to the driver's side headlamp assembly was intermittently shorting and causing the headlight to turn off while driving. The cable and entire headlamp assembly had to be replaced to fix the issue. There are other reports of this issue on [XXX] . POWER TRAIN

I own a 2018 Jeep Compass. My car has been stalling and going dead when stopping at stop signs/lights, when slowing to turn, and when entering on-ramps to a highway. Other issues that have occurred simultaneously (but not necessarily all at once) include, start/stop not working, the parking brake engaging when stopping, sound system unavailable message (despite that the radio works properly) and the car does not restart immediately when hitting ignition. These issues have been ongoing for approximately one month. The problem initially started with the parking brake engaging when coming to a stop. In order to disengage the brake, the car had to be turned off and then back on again. Then the car started to stall when slowing and stopping. In the latest occurrence, my car stalled 3 separate times within a 10 mile drive. On the 3rd stall, we were turning left to enter the highway when the car stalled suddenly. The car behind us had to slam on their brakes and swerve to miss hitting us. We took our car to the dealership on December 17th. At that time they replaced the cars main battery, but audio system unavailable message remained on, to which the service advisor said we should probably replace the radio, despite that the radio is functioning properly. We took the car with us December 18th. In less than 48 hours the car was stalling at almost every stop again. We returned the car to our dealership on December 26th, where it remains as of January 1. The dealership said, via phone, they have been unable to pinpoint the problem, at this time. It is extremely dangerous for a car to stall when it should otherwise be in motion. This puts myself, my son, our passengers and those around us in danger. This is an issue that warrants immediate attention and we welcome an inspection if someone could just identify the problem and fix it before someone is hurt.
