2014 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE Complaints and Recall Information

The 2014 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE has 1 complaint and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to engine failure, with at least one case describing a blown piston causing the vehicle to stop responding while driving, accompanied by engine noise and smoke.

Common Issues

  • Engine failure. One owner reported the engine producing a clicking sound while the oil warning light was on, followed by smoke and loss of vehicle response at highway speeds. The problem was diagnosed as a blown piston likely due to improper operation.

There are 4 recalls affecting the 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. These recalls involve the drivetrain, rear suspension, braking system, and occupant classification system for airbags, impacting safety and vehicle control.

Recalls

  • Rear differential and suspension. NHTSA recall 15V756000 affects 10,800 manual transmission vehicles from 2013-2015. Improper alignment of the differential and rear crossmember can cause bolts to loosen, risking driveshaft disconnection and loss of propulsion. Hyundai will inspect and correct the alignment at no cost.
  • ABS module fire risk. Recall 23V651000 covers over 1.6 million vehicles including the 2014 Genesis Coupe. The ABS module may leak brake fluid causing electrical shorts that can ignite an engine compartment fire. Owners are advised to park outside until repair, which involves fuse replacement free of charge.
  • Passenger airbag sensor. Recall 16V722000 covers 84,500 vehicles from 2010-2016. The occupant classification system connector can disconnect when the seat moves, potentially causing improper airbag deployment in a crash. Hyundai will secure the connector free of charge once parts are available.

Owners with repeated repairs or unresolved safety defects related to recalls or engine problems may have rights under their state’s lemon law and should consider their specific legal options.

AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 12, 2008, to June 11, 2016. The electrical harness connector for the front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) may dislodge when the seat is moved.

Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, the disconnected OCS would, by default, cause the first stage, and only the first stage, of the air bag to deploy, whether there is a child seat in the front seat and the bag should not deploy or if the crash is severe and both stages should deploy. Either scenario increases the risk of injury to the front seat occupant.

SUSPENSION:REAR

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 28, 2011, to April 6, 2015, equipped with manual transmissions. In the affected vehicles, if the differential and the suspension rear crossmember were not properly aligned during vehicle assembly, the bolts that secure the differential may loosen.

Risk: If the rear differential loosens from its mounting position, the driveshaft may disconnect from the differential, resulting in a loss of propulsion and an increased risk of a crash.
