2023 BMW XM

11579 vehicles affected

24V739000

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)

BMW of North America, LLC. (BMW) is recalling certain 2023-2024 X1, X5, X6, X7, XM, 530i, i5, 740i, 760i, i7, and 750e vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models and model years. The integrated brake (IB) system may malfunction and result in a loss of power brake assist or cause the Antilock Brake (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems to not function properly.

Risk: A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle. Additionally, malfunctioning ABS and/or DSC systems can cause a loss of vehicle control. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

2024 BMW XM

3256 vehicles affected

24V345000

SEAT BELTS:FRONT

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024 XM, 2025 BMW X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i, X5 M60i, X5 M, X5 xDrive50e, X6 xDrive40i, X6 M60i, X6 M, X7 xDrive40i, X7 M60i, and Alpina XB7 vehicles. The seat belt system may inaccurately detect that passengers are belted, preventing the seat belt warning light from illuminating and possibly causing the supplemental restraint system to not deploy as intended during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk: A seat belt warning light that does not alert occupants of an unbelted seat belt or an SRS system that deploys improperly can both increase the risk of injury in a crash.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Vehicle: 2025 BMW XM Red Label Mileage: Approx. 2,000 miles VIN: [XXX] Dealer: Fields BMW of Winter Park (Winter Park, FL) I am filing a formal complaint regarding what I believe to be a critical design flaw and safety issue in my 2025 BMW XM, The vehicle was purchased brand new and has been driven minimally (approx. 2,000 miles), and never involved in any collisions or damage. I recently brought the vehicle in to the dealership for a hybrid battery charging issue, and was shocked to be told that the front collision sensor and its mounting bracket were broken due to an “impact.” These components are located in front of the car in the Very bottom of the Grill, Despite the claim of impact damage, the dealership confirmed there is no visible damage to the grill, bumper, or hood. There are also no reports or indications that the vehicle ever struck anything. I am confident that no such event ever occurred. This raises serious concerns about the placement and protection of safety-critical components. If a front sensor—central to crash avoidance or driver assistance features—can be compromised without any external damage to the vehicle, this presents a significant engineering flaw. It could lead to unexpected failure of essential safety systems. I was quoted $2,800 for this repair, which BMW USA has declined to cover. This appears to be a case of poor sensor design and vulnerability, not user-caused damage. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue to determine if this flaw could affect other 2025 BMW XM models or similar vehicles. These sensors must be adequately protected to ensure driver and passenger safety. Thanks for your Attention [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

SERVICE BRAKES

I applied normal pressure to my brakes to slowly come to a stop and my brakes locked up and started jerking the car. I was told in October of 2023 by the dealership I purchased the car from that there was a recall and no fix. I just checked with them again today and there is still no fix. I am having problems with the braking system and can not get the car fixed.
