2015 YAMAHA YZF-R3 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2015 YAMAHA YZF-R3 has 1 complaint and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the fuel tank leaking caused by vibration from the fuel tank mounting bracket. Some also mention loose fuel lines that may require replacement or adjustment.
Common Issues- Fuel tank leaking. Vibration from the fuel tank mounting bracket causes leaks over time.
- Loose fuel lines. Fuel lines may be improperly mounted or aged, requiring replacement.
There are four recalls involving steering, fuel system, ignition switch, and rear reflector components. These recalls impact safety-critical systems such as steering control, fuel containment, and engine operation.
Recalls- Steering handlebar. (NHTSA Recall 15V593000) Affects 16 motorcycles produced from January to August 2015. The upper triple clamp may crack while riding, causing loss of steering control and increasing crash risk. Dealers replace the upper triple clamp free of charge. Do not drive affected motorcycles until repaired.
- Rear reflector lens. (NHTSA Recall 20V611000) Affects approximately 31,000 motorcycles from model years 2015 to 2020. Condensation or contaminants can reduce reflector visibility, increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace the rear reflector free of charge.
- Fuel tank mounting bracket. (NHTSA Recall 17V111000) Affects about 14,320 motorcycles from model years 2015-2016. Vibration causes the mounting bracket to contact the fuel tank, potentially causing fuel leaks. Dealers inspect and replace the bracket and tank if needed at no cost.
- Ignition switch. (NHTSA Recall 17V112000) Affects the same 14,320 motorcycles as the fuel tank recall. Water ingress can corrode the ignition switch, causing unexpected engine stalls and increased crash risk. The ignition switch subassembly will be replaced free of charge.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs, unresolved recall issues, or safety defects may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney could help clarify available options.

Just bought this bike from previous seller on 08/12/2025, rode fine on the way home until the day after 08/13/2025 only to realize the bike had not be serviced for it's recall fixes.
