2018 WINNEBAGO JOURNEY Complaints and Recall Information
The 2018 WINNEBAGO JOURNEY has 0 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently identify issues related to recalls that affect various systems, though no direct consumer complaints have been recorded.
Five recalls address defects involving lighting, electrical, fire safety, and mechanical components. Problems focus on safety-critical areas including turn signals, electrical circuits, fire extinguishers, battery cables, and hydraulic lines.
- Exterior lighting lens area. Turn signals may have a smaller than required luminous lens area causing reduced visibility to other drivers, increasing crash risk (NHTSA recall 24V733000).
- Unfused solar charging port. The auxiliary solar charging port circuit lacks a fuse, increasing fire risk if solar panels exceed circuit amperage limits (NHTSA recall 18V546000).
- Fire extinguisher malfunction. Kidde fire extinguishers may clog or require excessive force to activate, and some nozzles can detach, potentially causing injury and preventing operation during fires (NHTSA recall 17V782000).
- Battery cables and hydraulic lines loose. Improperly secured components may contact driveshaft or exhaust, causing electrical shorts or hydraulic leaks (NHTSA recall 17V736000).
- Braking hydraulic lines risk. Loose hydraulic lines could leak fluid and reduce braking ability, increasing crash risk (NHTSA recall 17V736000 duplicate).
The five recalls affect lighting, electrical systems including solar circuitry, fire extinguishers, and battery and hydraulic components. Repairs range from component replacement to installation of fuses and rerouting of cables, all provided free of charge by dealers.
- Turn signal lenses (NHTSA 24V733000). Affects 17,329 vehicles. Turn signals have insufficient luminous lens area which may reduce visibility to other drivers. Dealers will replace the turn signals at no cost. Interim owner notices mailed November 2024, with a follow-up remedy notification planned.
- Auxiliary solar charging port (NHTSA 18V546000). Affects 6,700 motorhomes. The unfused solar port circuit can cause fire risk if overloaded. Dealers will install a 15-amp inline fuse free of charge. Notices began December 2018, repairs started June 2019.
- Kidde fire extinguishers (NHTSA 17V782000). Affects 17,360 vehicles. Plastic-handle or push button extinguishers may clog or malfunction and nozzles may detach, risking injury and fire failure. Owners will be instructed to obtain free replacements from Kidde. Recall began January 2018.
- Battery cables and hydraulic lines (NHTSA 17V736000). Affects 58 vehicles. Poorly secured cables and lines can contact moving or hot parts causing electrical shorts or fluid leaks, raising fire and crash risks. Dealers will inspect, reroute, and replace damaged parts free. Recall started January 2018.
Owners of the 2018 Winnebago Journey with repeated repairs tied to these recalls or unresolved safety defects may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting a consumer protection attorney can provide guidance for addressing persistent issues or recall compliance problems.

(Winnebago) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Tour, 2013-2018 Journey, 2014-2022 Forza, 2015-2016 Brave, 2015-2019 Grand Tour, 2015-2021 Vista, 2016-2018 Adventurer, Sightseer, 2016-2021 Commercial Vehicle, 2018-2021 Intent, Sunstar, 2018-2020 Horizon, Itasca 2013-2017 Ellipse, Meridian, 2014-2017 Solei, 2015-2016 Tribute, 2015-2018 Sunstar, 2016-2018 Suncruiser, and Sunova motorhomes. The turn signals may have a smaller than required luminous lens area. As such these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) Number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Risk: A small lens can make it difficult for other drivers to see the turn signal, increasing the risk of a crash.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Winnebago Industries, Inc (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Winnebago Era, Travato, Fuse, View, Trend, Aspect, Paseo, Via, Adventurer, Journey, Tour, and Grand Tour motorhomes. These vehicles have an auxiliary solar charging port circuit that is not fused.
Risk: If solar panels are connected and they exceed the amperage capacity of the circuit, the unprotected circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Grand Tour and Journey motorhomes. The battery cables and hydraulic lines on these vehicles may not be properly secured, allowing them to contact the driveshaft or exhaust system, potentially resulting in an electrical short or hydraulic fluid leak.
Risk: An electrical short can increase the risk of a fire. A hydraulic fluid leak can result in a loss of braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash.

EQUIPMENT
Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Winnebago Era, Travato, Minnie Winnie, Fuse, View, Trend, Aspect, Brave, Vista, Sightseer, Adventurer, Forza, Journey, Tour, Revel, Paseo, Chalet, Access, and Intent motorhomes and Commercial vehicles, and 2013-2018 Itasca Spirit, Navion, Cambria, Tribute, Sunstar, Sunova, Suncruiser, Solei, Meridian, Elipse, Horizon, Reyo, and Via motorhomes. These vehicles are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' fire extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
Risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
