2014 WABASH NATIONAL VAN Complaints and Recall Information

The 2014 WABASH NATIONAL VAN has 2 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to braking performance and structural components. Concerns include brake malfunctions and potential hazards involving rear body parts.

Common Issues

  • Brake dragging and overheating. Complaints indicate the air brake actuators may cause the brakes to drag and overheat, leading to smoke and increased fire risk.
  • Brake caliper detachment. Bolt looseness on brake calipers may cause the caliper to detach from the axle, reducing braking efficiency and increasing crash risk.

There are four recalls affecting braking systems and structural components of the 2014 WABASH NATIONAL VAN. These recalls address issues that could compromise vehicle safety and require free repairs from dealers.

Recalls

  • Parking brake actuators. (NHTSA Recalls 14V726000, 6792 vehicles) Defective diaphragms inside air brake actuators may cause brakes to drag and overheat, raising fire and crash risks. Dealers will replace the brake actuators free of charge.
  • Brake caliper bolts. (NHTSA Recall 15V791000, 91 vehicles) Caliper mounting bolts may not be tightened properly and could loosen, causing caliper detachment and reduced braking. Dealers will inspect and tighten bolts as needed at no cost.
  • Rear impact guard. (NHTSA Recall 23V646000, 3711 vehicles) The rear impact guard’s position is too far forward, failing federal standards and reducing protection in rear crashes. Dealers will add an extension to the guard free of charge.
  • Limb deflectors. (NHTSA Recall 18V808000, 5194 vehicles) Limb deflectors on upper rear corners may detach during motion, increasing crash risk. Dealers will remove the limb deflectors at no cost.

Owners with repeated brake or structural repairs or unresolved recall issues may want to consult their state’s lemon law resources for possible rights and remedies.

STRUCTURE:BODY

Wabash National Corporation (Wabash) is recalling certain 2009-2024 dry van trailers equipped with a rail-style lift gate. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. The location of the rear impact guard is too far forward from the rear of the trailer, reducing impact protection. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 224, "Rear Impact Protection."

Risk: In the event of a rear impact crash, the rear impact guard may not sufficiently protect light duty vehicles, increasing the risk of injury.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC:CALIPER

Wabash National Corporation (Wabash) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Van Trailers manufactured December 9, 2013, to August 25, 2015, and equipped with certain Meritor EX225L2, EX225L+, and Bendix ADB22X axles. The affected axle assemblies have brake caliper mounting bolts that may not have been properly tightened, allowing the caliper mounting bolts to back out and the caliper to detach from the axle flange.

Risk: If the caliper detaches from the axle flange, braking performance would be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.

PARKING BRAKE:DRIVELINE:AIR:CHAMBER

Wabash National Corporation (Wabash) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Van Trailers manufactured December 17, 2013, to January 23, 2015, equipped with a Haldex air braking system. The affected brake actuators may have been manufactured with an incomplete attachment of the internal rubber diaphragm to the actuation mechanism. This could cause dragging or overheated brakes.

Risk: If the brakes begin to drag and overheat it can cause the brakes to smoke, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire and crash.
