2024 VOLVO XC60 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2024 VOLVO XC60 has 5 complaints and 1 recall filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the rearview camera and sensor failing while backing up, leading to accidents. Other complaints involve repeated infotainment system reboots affecting vehicle controls and a sudden engine failure requiring a complete replacement.

Common Issues

  • Rearview camera failure. The camera and backup sensors stop working during reverse, reducing driver visibility and causing collisions with nearby objects or vehicles.
  • Infotainment system reboots. The center console system restarts multiple times daily causing disruption to HVAC controls, speedometer display, and other critical features, creating potential safety hazards.
  • Engine failure. The engine failed suddenly with low mileage, leading to demands for a full OEM replacement. Insurer efforts to install a salvaged engine raise concerns about safety, warranty voidance, and lease violations.

One recall affects the 2024 VOLVO XC60 and other Volvo models. It addresses a rearview camera software defect that impacts backup visibility and increases crash risk. Repairs involve software updates offered free of charge.

Recalls

  • Rearview camera software. NHTSA recall 25V282000 affects 413,151 vehicles including the 2024 XC60. The defect causes the rearview camera image to fail to display when reversing, reducing rear visibility and raising crash risk. The remedy is a dealer or over-the-air software update at no cost. No driving or parking restrictions apply. Owner notifications were mailed June 27, 2025.

Owners facing repeated repairs, safety defects, or unresolved recall issues on this model may have rights under state lemon laws. Those dealing with persistent or serious problems should consider their legal options.

ENGINE

In April 2025, the engine on our 2024 Volvo XC60 B5 Plus AWD failed suddenly with only 7,000 miles on the vehicle. The vehicle is leased and under full factory warranty. Volvo’s dealership confirmed the engine requires a full OEM replacement. However, our insurer, State Farm, is refusing to authorize a new OEM engine and is instead forcing the installation of a salvaged engine from a wrecked vehicle. This creates significant safety risks: • The salvaged engine’s crash history and internal integrity are unknown and cannot be verified. • It bypasses Volvo’s safety testing and voids the factory warranty, removing manufacturer oversight for future issues. • The use of non-OEM parts violates the lease and risks improper compatibility or undetected damage, affecting vehicle safety and reliability. The original dealership admitted they never performed a full internal inspection of the failed engine, relying only on spark plug checks and a borescope scan. State Farm denied coverage for a $1,299 tear-down at another Volvo dealer that would have confirmed the root cause. Instead, State Farm arranged a “second opinion” at the same original dealership without notifying us and presented this repeat review as independent confirmation. We have now been without a safe, functioning vehicle for over 80 days. State Farm’s insistence on using salvaged parts instead of OEM components not only violates our lease terms but undermines manufacturer safety standards and exposes us, and potentially other consumers, to heightened safety risks if this practice is systemic. No warning lamps appeared prior to the engine failure. This refusal to restore the vehicle to OEM condition represents a serious safety concern that should be reviewed.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The infotainment center in this vehicle controls multiple features including HVAC, mapping, etc. Mine reboots 3-10 times per day. This causes windows to fog, consule and speed to go blank along with many other important features. I've had it in the shop multiple times and finally they told me that Volvo won;t replace under warranty unless it fully crashes. This isn;t living up to their written warranty and is a safety hazard.
