There are six recalls affecting systems such as labeling, windows, brakes, clutch assembly, and front suspension. The recalls cover potential safety hazards that range from incorrect labeling to component corrosion and failure.

Recalls
  • Certification labels. NHTSA recall 10V492000 affects 1,926 vehicles due to tire description errors on certification labels, risking vehicle overloading and crash. Dealers will inspect and replace labels free of charge.
  • Window glass attachment. Recall 10V359000 involves 3,984 trucks where the bottom window track may de-bond, causing glass to fall and create road hazards. Dealers will inspect and repair the windows at no cost.
  • Air brake release valve. Recall 10V571000 covers 6,187 trucks with a valve that may corrode from contaminants, impairing braking performance and increasing crash risk. Inspection and replacement by dealers will be free of charge.
  • Clutch assembly switch. Recall 13V268000 affects 23,056 vehicles lacking a redundant clutch disengagement switch, which can lengthen stopping distance if the brake pressure signal is lost. Dealers will inspect and repair as needed.
  • Lower ball joint corrosion. Recall 16V095000 involves 2,053 trucks with nullable seals causing corrosion and accelerated wear on lower ball joints, potentially leading to failure and loss of steering. Drag links will be replaced free of charge.
  • Upper ball joint corrosion. Also covered under recall 16V095000 for the same 2,053 trucks, upper ball joints risk corrosion and failure, posing a loss of steering hazard. Dealers will replace defective drag links at no cost.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues involving these safety-related defects may have rights under their state’s lemon law and should consider legal consultation.

SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:UPPER BALL JOINT

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 VT trucks manufactured from April 9, 2008, through September 24, 2009, and certain 2016 model VNL and VNM trucks manufactured from January 2, 2015, through to November 6, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with USK non-greasable drag links that may experience corrosion of the ball joints due to the seals being compromised, possibly resulting in accelerated wear and failure of the ball joint.

Risk: Failure of the ball joint may cause separation of the socket and a complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

POWER TRAIN:CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2007-2014 VAH, VHD, VNL, VNM, and VT models. The affected vehicles were built without a redundant clutch disengagement switch. Without a redundant switch, a loss of signal from the brake air pressure switch can prevent the clutch from automatically disengaging when the brake is applied.

Risk: Without a signal to disengage the clutch when the brakes are applied, the distance required to stop the truck may lengthen, increasing the risk of a crash.

VOLVO TRUCKS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 VNL, VT, AND 780 TRUCKS MANUFACTURED FROM MARCH 1, 2008 THROUGH FEBRUARY 6, 2009. THE BOTTOM TRACK THAT ATTACHES TO THE ARMS USED TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE WINDOW MAY DE-BOND, WHICH RESULTS IN THE GLASS COMING LOOSE AT THE BOTTOM.

Risk: THE UPPER WINDOW HINGES MAY FAIL AND ALLOW THE GLASS TO FALL OUT OF THE WINDOW FRAME CREATING A ROAD HAZARD AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

VOLVO TRUCKS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 AND 2009 VHD, MODEL YEAR 2006 THROUGH 2010 VN, AND MODEL YEAR 2007 THROUGH 2009 VT TRUCKS MANUFACTURED FROM NOVEMBER 7, 2005, THROUGH OCTOBER 30, 2009, EQUIPPED WITH AN AIR RELEASE FIFTH WHEEL. THE INVERSION VALVE ON THE FRAME MAY BE ORIENTATED WHERE CONTAMINANTS CAN ENTER THE VALVE THROUGH THE EXHAUST PORT. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKE VALVE MAY CORRODE.

Risk: CORROSION OF THE VALVE CAN CAUSE IT TO MALFUNCTION, THEREBY ADVERSELY AFFECTING BRAKING PERFORMANCE AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
