2015 VOLVO VNM Complaints and Recall Information
The 2015 VOLVO VNM has 0 complaints and 7 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to safety and braking systems as highlighted in the recall data. No direct owner complaints have been recorded.
There are seven recalls affecting multiple systems including collision avoidance, brakes, transmission, and engine components. These recalls address risks such as braking failure, unintended engine conditions, and potential fire hazards.
Recalls- Forward collision avoidance. NHTSA recall 14V356000 affects 1,025 trucks. The active braking component of enhanced cruise control can become disabled, raising crash risk. Volvo will update the control unit software free of charge.
- Disc brake caliper. Recall 14V555000 involves 3,175 trucks. Bolts securing the caliper may be under-tightened, allowing detachment and brake imbalance that increases crash risk. Dealers will inspect and tighten bolts as needed.
- Automatic transmission. Recall 14V739000 covers 6,234 trucks with the Eco-Roll option. The drivetrain may fail to re-engage after Eco-Roll use, lengthening stopping distance. Software updates will be provided at no cost.
- Trailer hand brake handle. Recall 15V524000 affects 2,854 trucks. The handle may not return to off position due to trim panel interference, causing brake dragging and risk of wheel fire or tire blowout. Dealers will modify the trim panel slot.
- Engine crankcase vent. Recall 15V274000 covers 185 trucks. The 90-degree elbow may detach, allowing engine oil to contact hot surfaces, increasing fire risk. Repairs include securing the vent tube and reprogramming the ECM.
- Electronic air dryer. Recall 16V928000 affects 5,547 trucks. Incorrect software may cause oil and water contamination in the brake system, affecting brake performance. Dealers will reprogram the control module and replace the filter.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues related to braking, collision avoidance, or engine risks may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney can provide guidance on potential claims.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR
Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 VNL and VNM trucks and certain model year 2017 VNX trucks. In the affected vehicles, incorrect software for controlling the electronic air dryer may result in oil and water contaminating the brake system.
Risk: If the brake system becomes contaminated, braking performance could be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2012-2016 VNM trucks manufactured March 21, 2011, to April 30, 2015. Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.
Risk: If engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, there could be an increased risk of a fire.

SERVICE BRAKES
Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 VNL and VNM trucks manufactured May 31, 2011, to December 1, 2014. In the affected trucks, the trailer hand brake handle may not to return to the off position due to being restricted by the cut out in the trim panel.
Risk: If the brake handle does return to the off position, the trailer service brakes may drag causing the wheel end to overheat and potentially cause a wheel end fire or tire blowout. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

6234 vehicles affected
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2012, 2014-2015 VHD, 2012-2015 VNL, and 2014-2015 VNM trucks manufactured June 16, 2011, to August 18, 2014, and equipped with the Eco-Roll option. The affected trucks may fail to re-engage the vehicle drivetrain after using the Eco-Roll feature.
Risk: If the drivetrain does not re-engage, the vehicle's stopping distance may be lengthened, increasing the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC:CALIPER
Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 VAH, VNL, and VNM trucks manufactured March 4, 2013, to April 28, 2014. Due to the bolts holding the disc brake caliper to the backing plate not being tightened to the specified torque, the disc brake caliper may detach from the backing plate.
Risk: If the disc brake caliper detaches from the backing plate it can affect the brakes to that particular wheel causing the vehicle to "pull" to the left or right, increasing the risk of a crash.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: CRASH IMMINENT BRAKING
Volvo Trucks of North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2011-2015 VNL and 2014-2015 VNM trucks manufactured November 17, 2010, through February 5, 2014, and equipped with enhanced cruise control and without side fairings. In the affected vehicles, the active braking component of the enhanced cruise control can become disabled.
Risk: If the active braking feature becomes disabled, the vehicle may not automatically activate the brakes as intended when the enhanced cruise control system is in use, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
