2014 VOLVO VAH Complaints and Recall Information

The 2014 VOLVO VAH has 0 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to vehicle safety components and mechanical systems, as reflected in the recall data. No consumer complaints have been submitted to NHTSA for this model year.

There are five recalls involving the 2014 VOLVO VAH that address various critical vehicle systems. These recalls cover powertrain components, seat belts, braking systems, tires, and steering linkages. Each recall targets defects that could impact vehicle safety and proper operation.

Recalls
  • Clutch assembly. Recall 13V268000 affects 23,056 vehicles due to the absence of a redundant clutch disengagement switch. This defect prevents the clutch from automatically disengaging when the brake is applied if the brake air pressure switch signal is lost. The risk includes increased stopping distance and crash potential. Volvo will inspect and repair affected vehicles free of charge.
  • Seat belts. Recall 13V618000 covers 5,486 trucks with IMMI-brand L9 seat belt buckles manufactured from August 12, 2013, to November 14, 2013. The buckle latch plate can remain partially engaged even after pressing the release button, hindering egress. This increases the risk of injury during emergencies. Dealers will replace the seat belt buckle at no cost.
  • Disc brake caliper bolts. Recall 14V555000 involves 3,175 trucks built between March 4, 2013, and April 28, 2014. Bolts holding the disc brake caliper may be insufficiently torqued, potentially allowing the caliper to detach. This can cause the vehicle to pull to one side, raising crash risk. Dealers will inspect and tighten the bolts as needed without charge.
  • Tires. Recall 14V740000 affects 115 trucks manufactured from May 12, 2010, to October 31, 2014. The tires may fail prematurely under conditions like high speed, heavy loads, and elevated road temperatures. Premature tire failure poses a safety hazard by increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace the tires and install a road speed limiter free of charge.
  • Steering drag link. Recall 15V523000 involves 1,319 trucks with a sealed drag link made between January 31, 2011, and June 25, 2015. Damage to the draglink ball socket boot can allow corrosion leading to ball joint separation. Loss of steering control is a serious safety threat. Volvo will replace the drag link with an improved design at no cost.

Owners of the 2014 VOLVO VAH who face repeated repairs, unresolved safety recalls, or serious defects should consider their rights under their state’s lemon law. Legal counsel specialized in consumer protection can help navigate warranty claims or potential compensation.

STEERING:LINKAGES:DRAG:LINK:CONNECTION

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2012-2016 VAH trucks manufactured January 31, 2011, to June 25, 2015, and equipped with a sealed drag link. In the affected trucks, the draglink ball socket boot may be damaged due to the angle of the ball stud. A damaged boot may allow contaminants to enter and corrode the ball socket.

Risk: Corrosion will accelerate wear of the ball, possibly resulting in the ball joint separating from the socket, causing loss of steering and an increased risk of a crash.

TIRES

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 VAH and VNL trucks manufactured May 12, 2010, to October 31, 2014. The affected vehicles may experience premature tire failure during certain operating conditions such as high speeds, heavy load, and high road temperature.

Risk: Premature tire failure could increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC:CALIPER

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 VAH, VNL, and VNM trucks manufactured March 4, 2013, to April 28, 2014. Due to the bolts holding the disc brake caliper to the backing plate not being tightened to the specified torque, the disc brake caliper may detach from the backing plate.

Risk: If the disc brake caliper detaches from the backing plate it can affect the brakes to that particular wheel causing the vehicle to "pull" to the left or right, increasing the risk of a crash.

SEAT BELTS

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2014 VAH, VHD, VNL, and VNM trucks manufactured August 12, 2013, through November 14, 2013; and equipped with IMMI-brand L9 seat belt buckles. When the button is pressed to release the seat belt, the latch plate can become partially engaged with the buckle, making the seat belt difficult to unlatch. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."

Risk: If the latch plate remains partially engaged after the button is pressed, egress from the vehicle could be hindered which would increase the risk of injury in the event of an emergency.

POWER TRAIN:CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2007-2014 VAH, VHD, VNL, VNM, and VT models. The affected vehicles were built without a redundant clutch disengagement switch. Without a redundant switch, a loss of signal from the brake air pressure switch can prevent the clutch from automatically disengaging when the brake is applied.

Risk: Without a signal to disengage the clutch when the brakes are applied, the distance required to stop the truck may lengthen, increasing the risk of a crash.
