2012 VOLVO C70 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2012 VOLVO C70 has 5 complaints and 1 recall filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report electronic communication failures affecting the ABS, anti-skid system, transmission control, and brake system. Several reports also mention doors unlatching unexpectedly while driving and issues with windshield bonding integrity.
Common Issues
- Electronic communication failure. Random messages for ABS, anti-skid system, transmission control, and brake failure appear, causing the car to enter limp mode at highway speeds.
- Brake system malfunction. A "brake failure" warning triggers limp mode preventing the vehicle from accelerating after a complete stop, creating traffic hazards and risk of rear-end collisions.
- Steering module replacement ineffective. Dealers replaced the steering module to address electronic faults but the problem persisted.
- Windshield bonding issue. The factory windshield reportedly became unbonded from the body, requiring resealing to maintain occupant safety in rollovers.
- Passenger door unlatches. Door opens partially on its own during transit, triggering a warning light; the cause remains unknown and inspection has not been performed.
- Driver’s side door opens while driving. Door unexpectedly opens, posing safety concerns on highways with no recall addressing this issue for the C70 model.
One recall affects the 2012 Volvo C70, involving an accessory labeling defect related to tire inflation information. The recall addresses a safety compliance issue and involves tire and wheel labels. The necessary repairs involve a label inspection and correction without restrictions on vehicle use.
Recalls
- Tire label defect. NHTSA recall 11V508000 affects 20,611 vehicles and relates to missing or incorrect tire and spare wheel inflation information due to misprinted labels. Incorrect tire inflation increases the risk of tire failure and crashes. Volvo notifies owners and dealers inspect and replace labels free of charge. The recall began February 23, 2012.
Owners dealing with recurring electronic failures, door safety defects, or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified professional for potential claims or remedies is advisable in such cases.

The drivers side door keeps opening while driving. I see recalls for other volvo models but not mine. This is very concerning when driving on the highway

While in transit, the passenger door periodically unlatches on its own. There is a safeguard that prevents the door from completely swinging open when this happens. This problem has not been inspected by a professional. The warning light appears after the door unlatches while in motion. Because I never have a passenger, I am not able to immediately close the door. The last time this happened was at 65 mph on [XXX]. This problem has existed for years. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The cause is unknown, and timing is unpredictable. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The car developed an electronic communication issue that would cause random failure messages for the ABS, anti-skid system, transmission control and a "brake failure" message that would put the car into limp mode even at highway speeds. If you come to a complete stop, it would not allow you to pull away at any speed which makes you a traffic hazard and at risk for a rear end collision. I took the car to the dealer and they said it was the steering module so I had them replace it which ended up not resolving the problem. More alarming, the mechanic said that the factory original windshield had become unbonded and needed resealed. He showed me by flexing the windshield out at the top. I paid a windshield shop to reseal the windshield but I am reporting this since it's bond to the body is integral to keeping occupants from being ejected in the event of a rollover and the owner is unlikely to ever notice the issue.
