2016 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG Complaints and Recall Information

The 2016 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG has 13 complaints and 2 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report issues with safety and driver assistance features, particularly problems caused by unavailable or obsolete parts. Some also report dashboard error alerts including ABS and parking brake warnings.

Common Issues
  • Lane assist camera failure. The collision avoidance camera (part #7p6907217bxz1y) fails and replacement parts are unavailable due to obsolescence, leaving owners without a repair solution.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control and AEB malfunction. Automated Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control systems stop working. Repairs are delayed by long waits for unavailable parts.
  • Rearview camera malfunction. The rearview camera does not display image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.
  • Dashboard warning lights. Various alerts illuminate including ABS and parking brake errors shortly after purchase or during use, causing concern over vehicle safety systems.
  • Parts supply issues. Volkswagen has ceased manufacturing or supplying key safety guidance camera parts, cancelling orders and leaving repairs unaddressed.

The vehicle has two recalls affecting braking and tire pressure warning systems. Both recalls address critical safety components that may impact vehicle control or crash risk.

Recalls
  • Brake pedal assembly. (NHTSA Recall 16V170000, campno 46G4) A securing clip may be missing from the brake pedal pivot pin in certain 2011-2016 Touareg models. This can cause the brake pedal to dislodge, preventing brake application and increasing crash risk. Volkswagen will inspect and install any missing clips at no cost. The recall began April 27, 2016.
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System. (NHTSA Recall 16V243000, campno 44M9) Some 2016 Touareg vehicles manufactured July 2015 to March 2016 may have an incorrectly calibrated TPMS that fails to warn drivers of low tire pressure. Safety certification labels also display incorrect tire pressures. This defect increases risk of sudden tire failure and crash. Dealers will reprogram the TPMS and replace the labels for free. Recall started May 13, 2016.

Owners facing repeated safety system failures or unresolved recall repairs may have protections under their state lemon laws. Persistent issues with unavailable safety parts and important system malfunctions warrant a review of legal options for repair or replacement rights.

TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2016 Toureg vehicles manufactured July 7, 2015 to March 3, 2016. In the affected vehicles, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may be improperly calibrated and, as a result, the TPMS may fail to warn the driver that the tire pressure is low. Additionally, the tire pressures printed on the Safety Certification labels are incorrect. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."

Risk: If the vehicle is driven on underinflated tires, the tires may fail suddenly, increasing the risk of a crash.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

My lane assist camera is not functioning and Volkswagen is telling me the part is now obsolete and can't be repaired. It is part #7p6907217bxz1y. I took it to Pompano Volkswagen on 4/4/24 and have been waiting for the part which has been out of stock and they (Gunther Volkswagen since Pompano closed) just told me on 8/8/25 the part is no longer available and offer no solution to fix this issue. Seems very odd that a car manufacture would be allowed to not supply a replacement part or be able to fix the problem for a car that is 8 years old. Especially for such an important feature like lane assist and collision avoidance systems - how am I supposed to sell a car without these features functioning? I have contact Volkswagen Corporate Customer Care without any avail as well.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

My ACC/AEB went out over 2 years ago. At the time this vehicle was out of warranty. The dealer ordered the part (camera) and charged me for it. I waited over a year for the part. During this time VW lost a class action lawsuit regarding this and notified me that this was now going to be covered under warranty. I returned to the dealer to file the warranty claim. Warranty claim is now 6 months old and VW still has no news on getting parts and repairing this safety feature.
