2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA Complaints and Recall Information

The 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA has 4 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report issues with the ABS and traction control systems, including the illumination of warning lights and beeping alerts upon vehicle startup. One complaint involves a sudden engine shutoff caused by a high pressure fuel pump failure.

Common Issues
  • ABS and traction control warnings. The ABS and traction lights illuminate at startup and remain on while driving.
  • "BRAKE" warning light. The red "BRAKE" light flashes continuously during operation, often accompanied by audible beeps.
  • Faulty ABS module and hydraulic pump. Dealerships have diagnosed failures in the ABS module and the hydraulic pump assembly causing brake system malfunctions.
  • Brake system safety concerns. Complaints mention risks of loss of vehicle control, improper braking, and unintended brake engagement.
  • Engine shutoff due to fuel pump failure. A high pressure fuel pump failure caused metal shrapnel to damage the engine, resulting in immediate engine shutdown while driving at highway speeds.

The vehicle has 5 recalls affecting fuel delivery systems, brake components, and electronic stability controls. These recalls address risks such as fuel leaks leading to fire hazards and brake system malfunctions that could cause loss of vehicle control.

Recalls
  • Fuel system fuel line chafing. (NHTSA 10V621000) A plastic tab or hydraulic clamp may chafe underhood fuel supply lines on certain 2006-2010 Jetta models, potentially causing fuel leaks and fire risk. Dealers will inspect and replace fuel lines and adjust or remove interfering components. Affected vehicles number 228,236.
  • Diesel fuel injector line cracks. (NHTSA 11V490000) 2009-2012 Jetta models with 2.0L TDI engines may develop cracks in the injector line due to resonance, leading to fuel leaks and fire hazards. Dealers will install improved injector lines and vibration dampers on 168,275 affected vehicles.
  • Master cylinder brake fluid leaks. (NHTSA 20E064000) Aftermarket Beck/Arnley master cylinders sold for 2004-2018 Jetta models may leak brake fluid due to faulty seals, reducing braking ability and increasing crash risk. Replacement master cylinders will be provided free of charge. 38 vehicles are affected.
  • ABS control unit failure. (NHTSA 16V913000) ABS control units on 2009-2010 Jetta and other Volkswagen models may fail during activation, causing loss of vehicle control. Software updates and module replacements will be performed for 135,683 affected vehicles to improve diagnostics and safety.
  • Electronic stability control risk. (NHTSA 16V913000) Recalls also address ESC system malfunctions linked to ABS control unit issues on the same set of vehicles as above. The remedy includes dealer updates to the control software and replacement of failed modules.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, unresolved recalls, or safety defects related to braking or engine failures may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting with a legal professional could provide guidance on available protections.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER

Tenneco Automotive (Tenneco) is recalling certain Beck/Arnley Master Cylinders, part number 072-9831, sold as aftermarket or replacement parts for 2004-2018 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2012-2019 Volkswagen Beetle vehicles. The fluid seal crimp on the master cylinder may be insufficient, causing brake fluid to leak or the cylinder to come apart.

Risk: If there is a brake fluid leak, it can reduce braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL

VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL 2009-2012 JETTA AND JETTA SPORTWAGEN VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 2008 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2011, MODEL YEAR 2010-2012 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 2009 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2011, AND MODEL YEAR 2010-2012 AUDI A3 VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 2009 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2011, THAT ARE EQUIPPED WITH A 2.0L TDI COMMON RAIL DIESEL ENGINE/CLEAN DIESEL ENGINE. THE FUEL INJECTION PULSES COULD COINCIDE WITH THE NATURAL FREQUENCY OF THE INJECTOR LINE #2, IN SPECIFIC LOAD AND RPM CONDITIONS. THIS RESONANCE CREATES ADDITIONAL STRESS IN THE FUEL LINE.

Risk: DUE TO THE RESONANCE CONDITION, INJECTOR LINE NUMBER 2 COULD DEVELOP SMALL CRACKS WHICH COULD LEAD TO FUEL LEAKAGE. LEAKING FUEL IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, MAY LEAD TO A FIRE.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

When you turn on the vehicle, the abs and traction light illuminates. The light that says "BRAKE" also illuminates and the vehicle beeps 3 times. When driving the vehicle, the red light "BRAKE" flashes constantly, while the ABS and traction control light remains illuminated but no flashes. The dealership says it's a fault ABS module and Hydraulic Pump Assembly. I researched and found a Volkswagen safety recall code: 45F2 (published March 17, 2017) that seems very applicable to my vehicle. Safety concerns include but are not limited to the following: loss of vehicle control, failure to brake properly, auto engagement of brakes not by the driver, etc. All safety concerns may cause my life or the life of another individual.
