I was turning into a parking space on the street. I let my foot off the gas in order to brake.... as I did so the car LURCHED forward on its own about 2-3 feet running into the curb and damaging the wheel, the rim and the tire. I stomped on the brake, turned off the car, and restarted the car in order to finish parking (get out of traffic) and assess the damage. Thankfully nobody was hurt, although I am quite shaken up, losing confidence in the car... I have no idea what system malfunctioned.. the car went forward on its own with my foot off the accelerator. I've never experienced this before with this car or any other car. I drove the car directly to the service department at the dealership where they said they would inspect it and report it as well. I have not called the police. I have not alerted the insurance company. There were no warning lights before or after this incident.

This issue relates to NHTSA Recall 24V344 / VW Recall 919A as the repair for this recall has already been applied to my vehicle. Despite that, while driving, my vehicle experienced a complete electronics shutdown, including loss of the instrument cluster, center display, and rearview camera. This occurred after the recall 919A software update was applied. As such, I believe the safety of my self and others was put at risk. I brought my vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis and they identified fault code U111000 with symptom 7223 but informed me that this was classified “non-customer-relevant” and therefore should be ignored. I believe the repair that Volkswagen has provided for Recall 24V344 is ineffective and the conditions that instigated this recall still exist.

The cruise control failed to slow down , instead it accelerated . My safety and the safety of my families was put at risk due to a sudden stop in I25 southbound cause us to slow down and when I pushed the down arrows to slow us down and pushed the brake pedal we didn’t slow down, instead we were jolted forward in accelerating speeds. Thankfully we missed the car in front of us due to us me swerving into the shoulder to assure no collision. The problem has happened on 4 different occasions. Volkswagen is aware of the issue and we have not received any kind of update or remedy for the defect. No one has inspected it , we were to have an appointment this Monday Sept 9th to have it all checked out. The gps , sos button , road side assistance and speedometer aren’t functioning properly in our car as well. No warnings lights were on and no notifications of any problems.

I am a current lessee of a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 (VIN: [XXX] ), leased on [XXX], under a 36‑month agreement (Lease Account #: [XXX]). The vehicle is still under warranty at 23,000 miles. The navigation/GPS system has a persistent defect (location drift far from actual position), verified by dealership technicians on multiple visits. On my second visit, the dealer refused to escalate to Volkswagen, citing a vague “Verizon update” explanation, despite my personal carrier being unrelated to the vehicle’s built-in navigation. The defect is plainly internal to the vehicle’s hardware/software. I attempted to contact Volkswagen Customer CARE and was left on hold for over 40 minutes before the call disconnected, with no assistance provided. This is a breach of warranty and a failure to provide adequate service. I request the Division compel Volkswagen to: - Escalate my case to technical specialists and repair the defect (including module replacement if necessary), or - Waive all lease-related fees and penalties (early termination, disposition, excess wear) if I return the vehicle due to unresolved defects. I can provide service records, dealership notes, video evidence, and call log INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While accelerating and decelerating, there is a low popping noise that comes from under the floor of the car. It sounds like metal reacting to a change in temperature when it pops, like if you pour hot water into a metal sink. This has been a consistent issue for over a year, and despite the dealerships attempts to fix the issue by replacing the sway bar and tightening the suspension and upper and lower control arms, the noise persists during acceleration and deceleration. The dealership was able to reproduce the issue when we have taken it in. There are no warning lights associated with this issue. If this issue is related to the battery or to the breaks, it could be a serious safety problem. We've taken it in for this issue 4 times and we'll take it in again this week, and the dealership has held the car for over two weeks total to try to fix it.

It is very easy to inadvertently touch the "SET" button for the cruise control. The button is capacitive so a very light touch activates the button, and it is on the outer edge of steering wheel spoke, meaning a light brush while turning the wheel activate the button. When maneuvering at slow speeds (such as in a parking lot) this results in the car accelerating, uncommanded, and without warning, up to the minimum speed of the cruise control.

Cruise control / resume cruise can inadvertently be activated due to the haptic touch pads on the steering wheel. On multiple occasions when exiting a highway after using cruise control and while turning the steering wheel, my hand inadvertently brushes against the RESUME haptic touch pad, causing the vehicle to immediately speed up to my last preset cruise speed. This is a constant issue as I use my vehicle daily for work purposes, and has caused multiple near-accidents. Per my dealer, Volkswagen does not have a fix for this. This is a non-issue in my other VW vehicle, as it has button instead of haptic touch on the steering wheel. Haptic touch should not be on a steering wheel.

I have been experiencing multiple issues with my vehicle. The backup camera frequently fails to respond, and the doors often do not open properly or get stuck. A significant concern is that the car does not hold a full charge, which severely impacts its range and reliability. I have brought these problems to Volkswagen on numerous occasions, but the most serious issue has recently emerged: the car has started stopping unexpectedly while driving. This is extremely dangerous and could potentially lead to an accident. It is a major safety concern that requires immediate attention.

I’m reporting a recurring issue with my 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 involving the electrical system and battery. Since December 2024, the vehicle has consistently displayed an “Electrical Malfunction” warning every single time the vehicle is turned on. This warning is always present — whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion — and does not clear. In addition, the infotainment and digital displays have shut down while driving, interfering with navigation and essential vehicle functions. The vehicle has undergone three separate battery replacements and one software repair, yet the issue persists. I’ve had to continue driving the vehicle with this constant malfunction alert due to extended wait times for service availability — sometimes over a month — with only one EV-certified technician per dealer in my area. All repairs and service confirmations have been completed by VW South Orlando, and the vehicle remains in the shop as of July 2025. I believe this unresolved electrical fault presents a serious and ongoing safety concern.

The incident occurred on May 24, 2025, while preparing to park the 2023 VW ID4. I had two occupants in the car with me. At the time of the incident, I was moving very slow with my foot on the brake, just about ready to stop and put the car in the park position, when the ID4 suddenly violently lurched forward. The car went over a cement parking stop continuing forward on to a sidewalk and then hit a building. I tried to stop the vehicle as quickly as I could. No collision lights, none of the usual sensors, and no automatic Collison braking came on. The only braking was by me. If someone would have been walking in front of the car at the time of the incident there would have been serious injuries, or deaths. Had the car had more room to accelerate before it hit the building, I think myself & my passengers could have been injured. The vehicle was taken into VW dealership who had the car for five weeks. The car was inspected by a VW engineer, final report states driver pressed the accelerator causing the vehicle to go forward at 54% acceleration. I expressed to the VW dealership that the car DID lunge but that I did not touch the accelerator. I had 2 passengers that can also verify that there were no warning lamps, sensors, or symptoms prior to the incident and normally the front sensors start beeping when you get too close to anything! After this incident I started to do some research and found on a VW Vortex forum that this type of incident has happened to numerous owners of ID 4's. Some of the writers to the forum had the exact same incident as mine, stating they were pulling into a parking spot ready to park and the car lunged. I also found it was happening to Audi owners a sister company of VW. My greatest concern is the frequency of this incident and the company's refusal to take any responsibility which was also widely reported on line. We had owned the VW ID4 for 2.5 years and never had anything like this happened before.

Automatic parking assist and reverse braking systems exhibit severe, recurring malfunctions causing collisions and injuries. On May 24, 2025, at approx. 4:10 PM, auto-park uncommanded the vehicle to strike a mailbox in a familiar spot. Dealer dismissed incident without diagnostics. Beyond this collision, the vehicle exhibits frequent, violent, unintended braking during reverse. This occurs when: Turning body to look back: System abruptly locks brakes, causing whiplash-like neck pain to me. Dealer stated this was "normal" for "driver seating" despite explanation. Encountering minor obstacles: System misidentifies leaves/garbage bins as threats, engaging full, hard braking. This causes extreme distress and has violently thrown passengers forward. My teenager son sustained a visible bruise for one week after hitting the console during one such incident March 2024 These system malfunctions create high risk of injury to occupants and pedestrians. The unpredictable braking events are a fundamental flaw. These issues were reported to the dealer within weeks of purchase and to VW Group of America Customer Care (800-822-8987) after the mailbox incident. They remain unresolved."

There is an ongoing NHTSA investigation into serious door-handle defects that can cause the doors to open unexpectedly while driving, which has remained unresolved for over a year. Additionally, the vehicle is subject to a recall regarding a missing gear-position indicator, posing a potential roll-away hazard. Despite my efforts to address these issues, Volkswagen has not provided timely or adequate remedies.

The right rear passenger door has become completely inoperable. It cannot be opened from the inside or outside of the vehicle. This is a critical safety risk because two child car seats are installed in the back, and the right side is the only accessible exit for an adult passenger. In the event of an accident or emergency, that adult would not be able to exit the vehicle. Additionally, the rear trunk has also intermittently failed to open since purchase. Both issues have been reported to the dealership. The trunk issue was previously noted but not repaired, and the door issue, which was intermittent at first, has now become a full failure. The problem has been documented on video and reported to both the dealership and the vehicle manufacturer. There were no warning lights or error messages, and no physical impact caused the failure. The dealership has been unable to provide timely repair or transportation assistance, leaving the vehicle unsafe for use with children. These issues may be related to known or recalled door and latch failures on this vehicle model. The car is under warranty and has fewer than 8,000 miles on it. Manufacturer inspection has not yet occurred due to scheduling delays.

I have encountered 2 high speed blowouts on my Pirelli Scorpion tires. One in July 2024 and one in Dec 2024. Car has 6,000 miles on it. It has cost almost $1,600 to repair. Tires are not warrantied by VW. My dealership has opened a warranty claim with Pirelli with no response in 6 months. VW corporate will not get involved. I feel like i have a bad set of tires on my new car and i am afraid to drive it. I paid $46,000 for a car with nobody responsible for tire defects. Are there known issues with these tires? Who is responsible pirelli or VW.

I was driving off the freeway in my ID4 and had been driving with both B mode (Regenerative braking) and the cruise control on. I then proceeded to drive approx 4 miles, still in B mode. I pulled into a parking space at my local swim club, and as I pulled into the space I took my foot off the accelerator, and began to slow down. As I was about to break to bring the car to a complete standstill, the adaptive cruise control kicked in and launched my car forward over the small concrete bollard, through a chain-link fence and into a tree stump (roughly the length of the car again). This caused considerable damage to my vehicle, but more so I am concerned for other drivers that these two drive modes conflict with each other and cause a serious safety concern. Insurance claim has been logged with AAA.

I bought the Volkswagen ID4 on lease from one of the Volkswagen dealer Dick Hannah based out of Portland, OR. It's 4 year lease, paying $760/month. I have received many recalls from Volkswagen, one of them was door handle and lock issue. I have complained to Volkswagen that door get open while i am driving the car and this needs to be fixed, they have said to me that, they do not have any parts to fix this and placed me in queue from last 4 months. I am not able to drive the car where i am paying $40K on lease payments in 4 years. This is really a safety concern where i do not take my kids into car and not driving much. I tried to call Volkswagen and ask them to cancel lease, they have asked me to pay remaining months payment which is $18K. I am not able to cancel lease, not able to drive, and they are not able to fix. I would request federal govt to have strict rules for auto makes outside of USA and have some penalty to pay to customers if they have recall. They send so many recalls, than what is use of buying new cars and paying them huge money, there should be some amount to pay to customer if there are recalls. This is safety concern to US Citizens and me.

My car has been under a recall notice since 2024. A fix was not available until January. As soon as repairs were available, I scheduled an appointment for repair (requested 12/29/24, scheduled 2/13/25). The week of the repair, I received a call that said the dealer had not actually ordered the necessary parts and I would need to reschedule. I scheduled another service appointment on 3/18/25 for the next available date, 4/30/25. This week I received another call that yet again the dealer had not ordered the parts for repair. I have lost faith in the manufacturer's willingness to repair this defect, as two appointments scheduled rough 4 months from a request for repair have not led to them completing the warranty work. This is especially troubling as I have a small child who often rides in the car with me. In addition, I am leading the vehicle and responsible for completing recalls in a timely manner, and the dealership will not allow me to complete my responsibilities. The dealer is Royal Auto Automotive VW in San Francisco.

I have also come across several other customer complaints regarding similar issues, which raises concerns about the frequency of this problem. This situation has become a significant inconvenience for me, as I am unable to charge my car and, therefore, cannot commute to work. I would like to formally file a complaint regarding this issue and seek guidance on how to proceed with the necessary repairs. Your assistance in resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated. It is available (currently installed in vehicle) for inspection upon request. (2) Safety is currently at risk because of bad image distortion near the passenger "A-pillar". (3) Problem has been seen in a photograph by both a VW dealership, and (we've been told) by a VW "Regional Service Manager". We also scheduled and showed-up for a "Service Appointment" at the dealership, but they declined to either sit in the vehicle or go for a "test drive" to better observe this problem. When in the lowest position the seat has lots of vertical play to it. This can be felt when accelerating and braking, especially when braking or accelerating hard. The seat also makes loud creaking noises in the same conditions, at random intervals. These issues have been reproduced at the dealer, but I was told "not to keep my seat in the lowest position" which is my ideal driving position for maneuvering the vehicle and having adequate view of the mirrors and outside the vehicle. The seat has not been inspected by a service technician, only the service representative in a visual manner. No physical action has been taken to remedy the problem. It is also worth noting the passenger seat does not exhibit this issue. The creaking combined with the excess movement in the seat have me concerned for my safety in the event of a crash or emergency maneuver. Should the seat come loose, I could lose control of the vehicle, putting mine, and others', safety at risk. No warning lamps, tones or other symptoms have occurred.

We have found that the carseat belt is fraying at the base of the seat rendering this seat unusable as it would not keep our daughter safe in the event of an accident. We have attempted to work with the manufacturer on a resolution for this defect however they will not take responsibility and claim that it is due to 'external environmental factors' but cannot provide a single example of what would have caused this. It appears that the belt is rubbing on the seat base when in use which resulted in the fraying. We have taken excellent care of the seat, use it properly, have have had it inspected upon install by a CPS technician. This is a clear defect and would like Evenflo to honor their warranty and take action on this defect. A quick search found that other parents have experienced this exact issue which is concerning as Evenflo had been made aware of multiple families impacted and even more babies using an unsafe product.

I could not see the odometer and the brake worked but the excoriator did not seem as responsive as it normally is. This issues has occurred 2 other times and was taken to VW for service. There has also been instances of the car lunging forward spontaneously usually in a drive through or close follow traffic conditions. The technician said we needed to record it happening.

My dealership, Westside VW in St. Louis Park, MN, has not completed my recalls in a reasonable amount of time. I scheduled an appointment two months ago to get this done and they canceled it the day before saying "they didn't have the parts." They said they'd call when the parts were in stock, approximately 1-2 weeks. That was 2 months ago and absolutely no communication from them.

My car has experience Phantom braking 3 times. The automated braking system unexpectedly activated while I was driving out of my driveway and on to the street. There were no cars on the road when it happened. Another time it happened while I was backing out of my garage. It unexpectedly slammed the brakes. It is very scary when it happens because the body ricochets and it startles you and the car goes into park mode. The third time happened while I was driving in a crowded parking lot. I was moving like 5 miles an hour very slowly and it activated the automated braking system, there was a car behind me and I almost got rear ended. I just hope it doesn’t happen to me while I am driving on the freeway. I will be a very dangerous outcome.

As I described via various work orders to VW Centennial service since 05-15-2024 (5 service orders ago). I am seriously concerned about the sensor ability to prevent and effectively work when needed. Today, 02-26-2025 I am documenting a clear scenario where ACC failed. On Freeway 215 driving 60 MPG with ACC engaged. Traffic on the freeway came to a standstill, the ACC engaged and stopped my ID4 from 55 MPH. This is the ideal outcome. However it failed few moments later. ACC showed ready when at standstill. When traffic resumed, ID4 accelerated to commensurate with the traffic at 25mph and ACC kept on par with the car ahead which is intended with the ideal distance. 5 seconds later, cars stopped again. This is where ACC should have stopped my ID4. However it did NOT. ACC did not stop my ID4 only to find myself facing a red collision alert second later within car length away. Had to hit the brakes hard and swerve to avoid collision with the car in front. I was led into a false sense of security as ACC worked minutes prior. This is not the first time ACC failed, and based on my accounting, it only works ¾ times. Even failure to engage ¼ times this can result in a serious collision. Many times I’ve discussed with the service asking them to replicate the same issue reported here. I also gave service exact scenarios where this happened. ACC also consistently fails 100% on highway off-ramps as the sensor does not see off-ramp barriers. As such you can always find ID4 ACC accelerating into increasing elevation off-ramps. A clear example of such you is on Freeway 215 and 95 off-ramp. This is a severe safety flaw that is 100% reproducible that I’ve explained to my service department time and again.

Documented iPhone and Infotainment system not functioning with hands free. This results in key safety feature which I bought the ID4 for. Prior VW service claims this is user error and cannot reproduce. On 2-24-25, I was able to show service manager and tech the consistent problem. Tech used 3 differing iPhones and 3 differing cables without any resolution to why this happens in all phones and cables. Waiting for VW Corporate to approve new Infotainment replacement.

Loud audible drive shaft noise usually found on a turn or after hitting a pothole. Dealership has not been able to identify and remedy the problem after 2 attempts on 12-27-24 and 1-3-25. Researching into this matter, I found many others in the community with these same problems (Reddit, VW User group, Facebook VW ID4 user group). I typed into the Google AI for why this problem exists, and it clearly shows this is an axle design flaw that cannot accommodate the weight of the car. I've attached this screenshot for your review. Concerned about a complete drive shaft failure causing an accident and injuries. VW not been able to resolve the problem for 2 months is another point of concern.

While driving using the VW Travel Assist (lane keeping) system, the vehicle was unable to "see" the lane markings and Travel Assist disconnected. When this happens the display of the lanes changes from green to gray, but there is no warning. In the case where i was traveling about 30 MPH it took less than a second for the vehicle to steer off the road. The Adaptive Cruise Control remained engaged as the Travel Assist disengaged. Considering that VW has programmed in white and red warnings plus a sound to require the driver to control steering about every 10 seconds it seems to be minor addition to trigger those warning lights and sound if the Travel Assist disengages.

I've had to replace the 12v battery in my ID.4 due to battery failure twice since I've owned it, and according to the service department at VW, the battery was replaced on delivery too. So that's a total of three batteries since it came off the production line. I'm also having issues with my doors handles not working properly and haven't been able to have the open recall performed on my vehicle due to backordered parts. It's been more than 6 months since the issue started and I still don't have any updates. The infotainment screen randomly blanks out while driving and is especially problematic when I'm backing the car up because the backup camera cuts out and is a huge safety issue. Lastly, the windows roll down when I press up on the switch which has caused a bunch of issues when driving in snow/rain. I was told it is due to an overly sensitive pinch monitor system and that there's no fix for it. All in all, I don't feel like I can trust the car and definitely don't feel safe driving it.

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V651000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 - 20 MPH, the passenger’s side rear door unlocked and became slightly opened. The door closed from the momentum while driving; however, the contact pulled over to the side of the road and inspected the door and found no visible defects. The door was automatically locked and secured. Additionally, the infotainment screen was black while reversing and activating the back-over prevention camera. The contact also stated that the back-over prevention camera erroneously activated and remained displayed for an additional 10 - 15 minutes after the vehicle had been shifted into drive(D). The contact stated that the mileage had decreased significantly from 220 to 150 miles and the vehicle failed to display the level of charge for the battery. The dealer was contacted and was unable to provide an estimate for when parts for the recall repair would be available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 12,800. Parts distribution disconnect.

My ID.4 was repaired to address the recall for the infotainment system rebooting (NHTSA recall number 24V344). Shortly after this repair i experienced two infotainment screen blackouts, one of which was recorded on video. These blackouts are not the system reboots that caused the recall (I experienced several of those between June and December 2024). In this case the map portion of the screen blacks out and is not responsive to any touch. this restricts use of navigation, reverse video for parking, and many other functions.

After just under 31K thousand miles of vehicle use, the rear drive motor began making a "clunking" sound upon each braking to a full stop, and again upon accelerating. The local dealer diagnosed the noise as coming from the rear electric drive motor. The technician consulted with Volkswagen "tech-line" personnel, who advised the local dealership to replace the rear drive motor under warranty, which they did approximately two weeks later. The noise no longer occurs.

I am writing to express my growing concern regarding ongoing issues with my vehicle, specifically related to the recalls. Over the past year or two, I have contacted both the Libertyville and Palatine, Illinois dealerships numerous times for updates, but I have not received any meaningful responses or resolutions. Despite my repeated requests for repairs, I have been informed that the repairs cannot be made due to a national shortage. As a parent of two infants, I find the issues with the disappearing display and malfunctioning locks to be extremely dangerous. These safety concerns pose a significant risk to my family, and I urge you to prioritize this matter and provide a timely solution. I would greatly appreciate any updates on the availability of the necessary parts and an expedited repair process

Two problems. 1) the infotainment module cuts in and out. 2) Most important, the vehicle lunged ahead for no reason from a dead stop. We were lucky not to hit the truck in front of us. The vehicle is not safe to drive. VW corporate doesn't answer their phone and the dealer keeps giving us 800 numbers to try to contact them. What can we do?

The vehicle has been inspected multiple times and had several software updates to fix the infotainment system. Unfortunately, the system still malfunctions restarting all the controls in the vehicle while driving. When this happens, the speedometer is unable to be accessed and driving becomes unsafe.
