FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

The automatic cruise control failed and disengage with a sudden braking. After that the following warnings appear: Front assist has limited availability, rear traffic is currently not available, proximity sensors malfunctioning. I took the vehicle to service and diagnostic suggested the replacement of brake booster. Service department recommended a replacement a cost of $2,800 as the vehicle is out of warranty (more than 50K miles), I paid $295 for diagnostic. I currently don't have the funds for repair. Failure of braking system is a serious matter. I am not sure if I should continue driving this car, unfortunately I need it to go to work.

POWER TRAIN

When my car starts in ECO mode, meaning ECO mode was the last setting on my last drive, the car appears to drive in ECO mode given the pedal's delay in power; however, on freeways, it can easily go pass 80mph, which it isn't supposed to. Then when I change my car mode to any other mode after starting my car in ECO mode, so Comfort, Sport, etc, and then switching back to ECO mode, I noticed the pedal now has more resistance then it did before. It feels like now, it's 100% ECO mode because I get way better efficiency now. For example, yesterday, when I drove to work and my car started up on ECO mode, it took 6% to get to work. Today, after starting up my car when it is already in ECO mode from the last drive, then switching to comfort or sport mode, then back to ECO mode, it took 4% to get to work. Both drives are on the same road, same speed limit and AC set at 70F for the entire drive for both days.

My 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is impacted by three separate recalls. I scheduled repair at my only local dealership. On the day of appointment, I was turned away by the dealer, stating that only one EV (electric vehicle) mechanic was employed, and he had been assigned other tasks. No reasonable accommodation was made by the dealer or manufacturer to resolve, leaving my recalls unresolved.

ENGINE

I purchased this vehicle on [XXX] from Sunnyvale Volkswagen and have experienced ongoing issues with the electrical system, infotainment, safety features, and OTA software updates. In early 2023, all error lights came on while driving, followed by a complete electrical system failure. The car would not restart until the next day. In 2024 and again in 2025, the center screen went completely black, disabling the rearview camera, hands-free navigation, climate control, and car settings. Restart attempts failed. On Feb 26, 2025, I accepted an OTA software update, which failed. I tried again on Feb 27. When I returned to the car later that day, the update was still running. The next day, the car would not unlock with either key. I tried the manual key over an hour and hundred times, which eventually worked, but the keys still weren’t recognized. I replaced both key batteries with new ones from the store (one key was spare hence never used), but the issue persisted. After several days of the same issue and hours of failed attempts, I was finally able to start the car and drive it to Sunnyvale VW on March 3rd. They acknowledged the issue and replaced both key batteries again with OEM ones, which temporarily resolved the problem. On March 25, I was contacted by Stevens Creek Volkswagen to address two open recalls. I scheduled an appointment for March 31 at 9am and called on March 30 to confirm. Despite the confirmation and their having a note for a loaner from the manager, I was told upon arrival—after waiting 15 minutes—that parts were unavailable and they couldn’t perform the repairs. I was told I’d be contacted when parts arrive, the same excuse I’ve heard since the recall opened a year ago. My safety recall remains unresolved. This vehicle has proven unreliable and unsafe for my family. I am requesting a full replacement of this lemon with a brand-new vehicle as soon as possible. VISIBILITY/WIPER

I use this car for work daily, see patients in their homes. The driver door won’t locked, for 2 consecutive days and this is not the first time incident. Whenever this happens, I notify the dealer but they said VW does not have repair/solution to it yet. So, the car’s safety features (emergency braking, lane departure assist, adaptive cruise control and etc) are not functional. This makes it dangerous for us/drivers. Because the door is unlocked and car is running, it sends signals/sounds warning the door is unlocked. It is terrifying driving the car while it’s raining. I am unsure if the car will suddenly stop. Also, the anti-fog doesn’t work unless I turn on the heater which reduces my mileage. I can barely see the road when it’s pouring rain. The car doesn’t charge to its usual 200 miles at 80% (recommended), only charging 180 miles at 90%. Hope you can help me please as I am the bread winner in the family. We do not have extra budget to get another car. Our old 2010 Prius is only good in town, not in major highways. If something happens to me due to this car’s manufacturing faults, my husband and child will be left destitute and end up homeless. Thank you for your assistance.

I took the car to the Dealership for recalls (#1 Cochoran VW, Wexford, PA) on [XXX]. The dealership has not been able to complete the repair and the car has been at the dealership for almost three months. The dealership employees have been in contact with Volkswagen of America and with individuals in Germany but to no satisfaction. We have spent several hundred dollars on gasoline that we would not have spent as the car in question is an EV (VW ID-4 Model year 2022 with 31,000 miles. We are now fearful that the car will be returned to us in an unsafe condition and are even fearful to get NHTSA involved as the company may hurriedly return the vehicle to us without completing the "RECALL". VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

I was turning into a parking spot in front of the entry doors to a Sheetz convenience store. I was slowing down, and had gotten halfway into the space. All of a sudden, the car surged forward, went over the curb and hit the bollard in front of the parking space. It was hit with such force that the bollard bent and went under our car. My memory is that I was pressing on the brake very hard, once the acceleration started. My husband was in the car with me and can attest to all that I have stated. If that bollard had not been there, and stopped my car, I feel certain that my car would have crashed into the store, seriously injuring (or killing) us and those inside the store. We are planning to report the accident to Volkswagen, and to request that they test the "black box" inside the car, to see if they can find out what went wrong. I have spoken to someone in the Sheetz corporate office , and she told me that they have a video recording of the event. She said she observed my car entering the parking space very slowly, and that the car suddenly accelerated. She is planning to provide that video to State Farm Insurance, our insurance company. Unfortunately, I did not take pictures, myself, of the damage to the front of the car. But we will be requesting that the collision repair shop take pictures before the car gets dismantled for repair. We do not recall hearing any warning signals of the impending crash, and certainly did not experience any emergency braking. The airbags did not deploy.

I was parking the car in a parking lot. I turned left into the lot and then turned right into a spot and then decided to switch to the adjacent spot (also requiring me to turn right) to provide me with more room to park and leave the car. As I turned into the spot the car suddenly accelerated forward. I tried pushing the brakes and the car continued to accelerate and hit two fences. No indication of a collision by car, no engagement of the automatic emergency braking. No recognition of the car that there was a fence in front. No automatic braking/warning lamps. The vehicle was inspected only by the insurance agent and body shop for repair.

Despite their inspections, they were unable to identify the source of the problem. 3. **Vehicle Details:** The car is relatively new, only 2.5 years old, and remains within the manufacturer's warranty period. 4. **Concerns:** The unresolved issue may pose a safety risk, particularly if the sound is related to critical drivetrain or suspension components. Additionally, repeated unsuccessful repair attempts by the dealer are frustrating. **Resolution Sought:** I would like the NHTSA to review this issue and investigate whether this is a broader concern with similar VW models. I hope VW can be held accountable for properly diagnosing and fixing the problem under warranty.

All is sudden I hear clicking noice from doors that make scary to drive the car with Kids. Couple of times it unlocked the rear passenger door. I had to to pull over to close and move. It’s been 2 years there are no software updates and center console struck, not responsive , some times reboot automatically, some times we need to force restart and rear camera doesn’t appear.
