2012 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF Complaints and Recall Information

The 2012 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF has 0 complaints and 6 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most commonly report issues related to safety systems, particularly concerning air bag components. Other areas addressed by recalls include the fuel system on certain diesel engine models.

There are six recalls involving various vehicle systems. The recalls primarily affect air bag inflators and the diesel fuel injection system. These defects present potential safety risks including fire hazards and air bag deployment failures.

  • Fuel system defect. NHTSA recall 11V490000 affects 168,275 vehicles with 2.0L TDI diesel engines. Resonance in fuel injector line #2 can cause cracks leading to fuel leaks. Leaking fuel poses a fire risk. Volkswagen will install improved fuel injector lines and vibration dampers free of charge.
  • Driver air bag clock spring. Recall 15V483000 covers 415,825 vehicles. Debris contamination may tear the clock spring, which powers the air bag during steering. This loss can prevent air bag deployment in a crash. Dealers will install protective covers or replace the clock spring at no cost.
  • Driver air bag inflator rupture risk 1. Recall 19V862000 covers 226 vehicles with prior Takata air bag repairs. Long-term exposure to humidity and temperature cycling can cause inflator explosions. Metal fragments may cause serious injury or death. Inflators will be replaced free of charge.
  • Driver air bag inflator rupture risk 2. Recall 16V078000 affects 659,493 vehicles. Excessive internal pressure during air bag deployment may rupture the inflator, sending metal fragments into occupants. Volkswagen will replace the inflators at no cost and has issued interim notifications.
  • Driver air bag inflator rupture risk 3. Recall 18V148000 covers 363,713 vehicles. Similar to recall 16V078000, inflators can explode causing injury from metal fragments. Volkswagen will replace the inflators with alternative parts free of charge. This recall partially supersedes 16V078000.
  • Regulatory compliance issue. Recall 18V329000 affects 252 vehicles. Modifications during an evaluation period may result in non-compliance with safety regulations, increasing crash, fire, or injury risks. Volkswagen will repair or buy back affected vehicles free of charge.

Owners with repeated repairs related to these safety defects or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney is advised for further assistance.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2012-2015 Passat, 2011-2014 Golf A6, and 2011-2013 Audi A3 diesel vehicles, thought to have been previously repaired under one of the Takata air bag recalls. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

Risk: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2009-2014 Volkswagen CC, 2010-2014 Golf, 2010-2014 Eos, 2007-2010 Passat Sedan and Wagon, and 2012-2014 Passat vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.

Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could explode with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2012-2016 Eos, 2012 Passat, 2012-2016 CC, 2015-2016 e-Golf, 2011-2015 Touareg, 2012-2015 and 2017 Tiguan, and 2011-2016 Golf and 2011-2013 GTI vehicles. Modifications made while the vehicles were in an internal evaluation period may cause the affected vehicles to not comply with all of the applicable regulatory requirements.

Risk: If the vehicles do not meet all regulatory requirements, there could be an increased risk of a crash, fire, or injury.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Golf, 2007-2010 Passat sedans and wagon, 2012-2014 Passat sedan and Eos, 2009-2014 CC, 2009-2012 Audi Q5, 2010-2012 S5 Cabriolet and 2010-2012 Audi A5 Cabriolet vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Volkswagen CC, and Passat, 2010-2013 Eos, 2011-2014 Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Tiguan, and 2012-2014 Jetta Sportwagen vehicles. In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. This contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag.

Risk: A loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag will prevent the air bag from deploying in the event of a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL

VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL 2009-2012 JETTA AND JETTA SPORTWAGEN VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 2008 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2011, MODEL YEAR 2010-2012 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 2009 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2011, AND MODEL YEAR 2010-2012 AUDI A3 VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 2009 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2011, THAT ARE EQUIPPED WITH A 2.0L TDI COMMON RAIL DIESEL ENGINE/CLEAN DIESEL ENGINE. THE FUEL INJECTION PULSES COULD COINCIDE WITH THE NATURAL FREQUENCY OF THE INJECTOR LINE #2, IN SPECIFIC LOAD AND RPM CONDITIONS. THIS RESONANCE CREATES ADDITIONAL STRESS IN THE FUEL LINE.

Risk: DUE TO THE RESONANCE CONDITION, INJECTOR LINE NUMBER 2 COULD DEVELOP SMALL CRACKS WHICH COULD LEAD TO FUEL LEAKAGE. LEAKING FUEL IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, MAY LEAD TO A FIRE.
