2010 TURTLE TOP ODYSSEY Complaints and Recall Information

The 2010 TURTLE TOP ODYSSEY has 0 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to structural components, electrical systems, and adaptive mobility equipment based on recall data.

There are 5 recalls affecting various systems of the vehicle including roof hatches, air conditioning equipment, electrical connections, and wheelchair lifts. The recalls address safety hazards that could impact passenger evacuation, fire risk, and mobility device operation.

  • Roof hatch defect. Certain buses manufactured between 2011 and 2012 with Specialty Manufacturing Inc. Prolo roof hatches have increased friction between components causing higher than allowed opening force. This fails federal emergency exit standards and could hinder passenger escape during emergencies. (NHTSA 12V330000, 361 vehicles affected)
  • Electrical connection risk. Buses built on GM chassis from 2006 to 2014 with Trans-Air add-on compressor kits may have improperly reconnected power distribution terminal strips. Poor connections can cause arcing or overheating, increasing fire risk. (NHTSA 15V396000, 355 vehicles affected)
  • Air conditioning compressor mounts. Related to the same recall above, the defect includes improper installation of compressor mount kits which contributes to electrical problems and fire hazards. (NHTSA 15V396000, 355 vehicles affected)
  • Wheelchair lift structural cracks. Wheelchair lifts from model years 2006 to 2014 equipped with specific Ricon models may develop cracks in the platform side plate. This can cause the lift platform to separate and fall when doors open, risking injury to the operator. (NHTSA 14V651000, 276 vehicles affected)
  • Wheelchair lift pivot failure. Folding link arms on certain Ricon lifts may have oversized pivot holes allowing bearings to move out of place. This can result in excessive platform movement and failure, causing the platform to fall from the vehicle when doors open. (NHTSA 16V009000, 276 vehicles affected)

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY

Turtle Top is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Odyssey, 2008-2009 and 2011 Odyssey LT, 2007-2008 and 2010-2012 Odyssey XL, 2008 and 2012 Terra Transport and 2007-2008 and 2013 Van Terra vehicles equipped with certain model S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510 wheelchair lifts manufactured by Ricon. The affected lifts are equipped with folding link arms that may have pivot holes that are too big, allowing the bearings to move out of position.

Risk: If the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement resulting in failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheel chair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Turtle Top is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Odyssey, 2011 Odyssey LT, 2006-2012 Terra Transport, 2014 Terra Transport, and 2014 Van Terra vehicles built on a GM chassis with a 6.6L engine. The affected transit buses and MPV specialty vehicles are equipped with Trans-Air add-on compressor mount kits, part numbers 4012506-01, 4012506-02, 4013126-01, 4013126-02, 4013235-01, 4013235-02, 4012909, 4013125, 4013222 and 717173 installed by Trans-Air personnel. After installing the compressor, a power distribution terminal strip may not have been properly reconnected.

Risk: If the power distribution terminal strip has a poor connection or a loose connection, the strip may arc or overheat, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY

Turtle Top is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Odyssey, 2008-2009, 2011 Odyssey LT, and 2007-2008, 2010-2012 Odyssey XL, 2008, 2012 Terra Transport, and 2007-2008, 2013 Van Terra transit buses equipped with certain model S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510 wheelchair lifts manufactured by Ricon Corporation. The platform side plate of the affected wheelchair lifts may crack.

Risk: If the platform side plates crack, the lift platform can separate from the lift and come to rest against the vehicle's lift door. When the doors are opened, the platform may fall out, increasing the risk of injury to the lift operator.

STRUCTURE:BODY:ROOF AND PILLARS

Turtle Top is recalling certain model year 2010 through 2012 commercial buses manufactured from April 1, 2011, through March 25, 2012, equipped with Specialty Manufacturing Inc. (SMI) Prolo roof hatches. Increased friction between the rear plate assemblies, p/no. 009327, and the nylon rear pop-up support, p/no. 008956, may result in an opening force of the Prolo roof hatches that exceeds federal standard requirements. Thus, these hatches fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."

Risk: In the event of an emergency, passengers' exit from the bus may be hindered possibly resulting in injury to the vehicle occupants.
