Bought the truck from BILL LUKE MARANA was told there were no major safety issues with recalls and that the only recall was debris in engine that didn't have a fix yet.... drove the car from dealership to home, upon arriving home my wife smelled gas, i thought it was cleaning fluid smell or something. drove the truck to circle k smelled gas but though it was circle k . drove the truck once more to pick up an employee so i could drop him off to drive home the car i left at the dealer . During this drive the smell of gas became undeniable . Upon arrival home the truck was parked my employee ( who had been driving behind in a different car) jumped out and said the truck was spraying gas . My daughter exited the passenger side of the vehicle and was misted with gasoline. we subsequently found a fuel line was shooting out gasoline. I called bill Luke and told them to tow the truck back they said they couldn't so i was put in a position of having to drive the car back to the dealership. I was in fear of my life if driving this car so I was forced to pay a tow truck to return the truck to bill Luke. After speaking with bill Luke management I was told there are 2 major recalls with the vehicle first debris in the engine that can cause engine failure while driving and second a problem where the fuel line rubs against the brake drum or pad and can chafe to the point of leaking. The second recall issue is the one that put us in danger. I understand that recalls happen but I am under the impression that dealerships have a paramount responsibility to make sure the cars they sell are safe and have complied with major safety recalls. I don't believe this was done at Bill Luke Marana . I believe Bill Luke Marana put me and everyone on the road in danger to sell a car. Please address this monumental failure will ALL bill Luke sales offices and service centers to prevent unnecessary death or suffering in the future.

I recently put my boat in the water with my 2022 Toyota Tundra at local boat launch. When I put the boat in the water my truck registered a quarter tank of gas. After launching and loading the boat my truck registered a full tank of gas and would not reset or adjust the fuel gauge once it was on a level surface. I found several complaints on the Toyota forum regarding the fuel gauge improperly reading a full tank after being on an incline and not adjusting once on a level surface. I was forced to disconnect the negative battery cable to reset the fuel sensor. Fast forward the truck was at the dealer on 7/28/2025 for the engine replacement. I asked them to look into the fuel gauge sensor issue and was advised that there is a Toyota TSB for the sensor and it needed a computer reflash, but would not do the reflash at their expense. This is a safety issue that if not corrected may cause individuals to run out of gas while in motion on the highways causing the vehicle to stall causing a collision or road hazard.

The hood “open” sensor failed and indicated that my hood was not properly latched. The hood was latched properly. This resulted in a loud, distracting, and constant beeping that occurs anytime the vehicle is driven over 2 mph. This beeping has the potential to interfere with the driver and may result in an accident.

Front Active Spoiler Malfunction Last week I took the vehicle into Toyota due to this malfunction message on the vehicle. The spoiler failed and remained in the down position, unknowingly causing additional damage to the spoiler flap. It was determined that the motor assembly was not working and needed to be replaced. The motor, flap and related assemblies were replaced under warranty by the dealership on 07/17/2025. Within 2 days, the spoiler was stuck in the down position again, this time without the malfunction message on the vehicle. With this being stuck in the down position, it can potentially cause more damage to the vehicle being in the down position and lead to debris in the roadway depending on the damage. Toyota manual states to avoid driving the vehicle at high speeds when this issue is present. However, owners with this issue would not know there is an issue if the vehicle is not presenting an error while functioning improperly. The vehicle is scheduled to be looked at again tomorrow 07/22/2025, at Corwin Toyota of Colorado Springs.

When attempting to move forward from a stop, there is a momentary delay in the truck responding to stepping on the accelerator pedal. This is a real safety concern when attempting to pull into traffic, as the "dead spot" in the pedal occurs after the truck has already moved forward a few feet, leaving the front end of the truck out in the traffic lane. It appears to be related to the automatic transmission starting in 4th gear, as I can move the shift lever to manual shifting mode and start out in 2nd gear with no hesitation. Once moving I simply move back to Drive mode. This has been an ongoing concern, reported from the first service (10k) on my truck, which now has 45k miles. I received the remedy engine at 37k miles under the safety recall. Toyota seems to be aware of the issue, as they flashed the TCM once, which seemed to help briefly, however the problem quickly returned. I am not the only Tundra owner reporting this issue.

I have owned the truck since 2022 and since then the skid plate covering the gas tank has broken in the same place. The mount to the frame has broken and has dismissed the issue by stating external factor. When these mounts break, the skid plate drags on the road potentially sending debris into the windshield of drivers behind me. It has happened 3 times driving on pavement. It’s a known issue and I’ve tried to resolve with manufacturer with no success or resolution. It’s poorly designed plate. Plastic and metal. There is no sign it was hit

After Toyota replaced the engine on my 2022 Tundra under recall, the truck developed serious issues that were not present before. The engine and powertrain system now knock, shake, stutter, and in multiple instances, the vehicle has shut off completely—including while driving and while stopped at intersections. These failures pose a significant safety risk to myself and others. Sudden loss of power in traffic or while braking has created close calls, especially when other vehicles are nearby. I no longer feel safe driving it. I have taken the truck to the Toyota dealership six times. They claim they cannot replicate the problem, but the symptoms return every time shortly after I leave. So far, the problem has not been confirmed by the dealer or any third party, but the issue is persistent and serious. The truck has only been inspected by the Toyota dealership. No inspections have been done by police, insurance, or other agencies. There are no warning lights or dashboard messages before or during these events. The symptoms began shortly after the engine was replaced and continue today. The vehicle is available for inspection if needed. Toyota has not resolved the issue, and I am concerned other owners who had the same recall engine replacement may be experiencing similar problems. I’m filing this to report a potential safety defect and ask NHTSA to investigate.

On [XXX] I was traveling in my 2022 Trd Pro Tundra 5.5 hv. I was taking a left turn at a green light, when all of the sudden lights appeared on my dash saying “HYBRID SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, visit your dealer”. The car continued to function for approximately 1 minute, until the next light where it turned off. I tried to turn the vehicle back on, but it started to shake when it tried to start. At this point I was stuck at the light with traffic behind me, the engine had failed and the hybrid system had failed as well. I had to call 911 and request an officer to come assist, because I was blocking traffic. The vehicle had to pulled to a lot where I could unhook my boat that was in tow, and tow the truck to the Beaver Toyota dealership. After arriving at the dealer and being there for over a week, I have been informed that they will be preforming a short block rebuild, because my truck is not listed in the 2022-2023 Toyota tundra recall. Even though my truck experienced the same engine failure due to debris in the engine as all the 2022-2023 tundras. My specific truck was not included in this recall because Toyota says the hybrid system would be able to move my car to a safe position if there was an engine failure. This was in fact not true because my hybrid system malfunction at the moment of the engine failure resulting in me stuck in the middle of the road blocking traffic having to call the police. Toyota needs to include trd pro hybrid owners in the 2022-2024 full block recall or face extensive legal action. Transmission or engine has a lag, or dead spot from a complete stop to acceleration, such as leaving a stop light. At times barely noticable, other times it seems the engine is going to die. Dangerous when pulling onto a busy street from a side street. Dealership says "unable to replicate" which is understandable, as it's somewhat intermittent. This appears to be with all model year 2022 and newer Toyota Tundras.

I have so many problems with my truck and the surging engine as well as squealing brakes, lane assist is disabled but comes on and jerks the truck out of my lane and it's impossible to steer almost causing me to crash numeroys times. Every time I try to get the engine replaced which I've been waiting over a year and I was in Phase 2 and every Toyota dealership tells me something different. I can't even sell this truck privately because it needs a new engine. I have 25,300 miles as of today and I've had it in the shop so many times and they say they can't find anything wrong with it. The headliner fell down onto my head and took it in for service and I got it back worse because they broke all the clips that hold the interior headliner in place and it's hanging down. Every time I bring it in for something they tell me the parts are not available but what they're doing is trying to make me run out of my warranty which is in 2 months. They're trying to sell me an extended warranty but they can't even fix anything that's under warranty right now. I really need your help here because there's so many other issues that I haven't even gone over. Everything is misaligned on this truck and they can't fix it my rear passenger door never latched correctly and they don't know what to do they just give it back to me the same way and I have small children that sit back there but they claim they don't know how to fix it.

Since the first day I've had the truck, I've experienced a lag/hesitation from a full or rolling stop. The truck will start to move, then have no power for a few seconds and then will surge forward. This has almost caused accidents - when I push the gas I expect the truck to GO.

There is a hesitation from the engine when vehicle is stopped. I have almost got into accident because of this. Dealer flashed the update but still no resolution. Dealer says it’s by design. When taking off from the atop sight or a traffic light, vehicle hesitates big time to move forward.

My engine was replaced under the recall at 75,000 miles. One day and less than 100 miles later, the engine lost motive power on the upgrade side of an overpass on the highway at 75 MPH. The vehicle slowed so quickly that if other vehicles would have been near, it undoubtedly would have caused an accident. I had it towed to the shop and they are investigating the problem. I also called Toyota Corporate HQ and notified them about the problem.

Total engine failure occurred, leaving me stranded 1500 miles away from home while on a road trip with family. The engine completely shut off on me at highway on ramp speeds, causing me to perform evasive maneuvers to pull over. Vehicle started smoking from engine compartment once parked, causing me and my [XXX] daughter to emergency exit the vehicle on the side of a busy highway. Truck was towed to closest dealer where they held the vehicle for 57 days. It was stated that this recall was the cause of the issue. They did not have a solution to the recall and simply replaced internal damaged engine parts. There were no warning lights or caution lights prior to this event occurring. I have reached out to Toyota Branding Division but have not received any reply. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Tire size 265/60R20. All tires have cracked around the bead of the rim. This was discovered at 24,663 miles during regularly scheduled maintenance at Copeland Toyota in Brockton, MA on March 20, 2025. Defective manufacturing suspected. Upon further investigation of this tire model on the Internet, I discovered dozens of reports of the same sidewall failure by Toyota Tundra owners with very low mileage. I contacted Bridgestone Support on March 20, and per their instruction, took the vehicle to a Bridgestone authorized dealer (Firestone Complete Auto Care, Warren Ave. Brockton, MA) on March 21. The inspection determined that the tires have failed. The technician indicated that Bridgestone has very limited inventory of this tire model, indicative that the tire is being discontinued. I contacted Bridgestone Support on March 21, indicating that there is likely a manufacturing defect, and was advised to report this to the NHTSA, because the Bridgestone employee stated that they have no internal capability to report a potential manufacturing defect. I suspect there is a likelihood that these tires have been discontinued because of defects, but Bridgestone has not alerted customers of such a safety hazard. My Bridgestone Support reference number is [XXX]. Please investigate this as I believe there is a safety hazard due manufacturer defect. Front brakes noisy, vehicle shudders when brakes applied. Dealership inspected at 21,000 miles, replaced brake pads and turned rotors at 22,000 miles. Not under warranty, paid out of pocket. Now Toyota admits brake parts were faulty, has new part numbers to repair the defect, but parts have been on backorder for 6 months or more. Toyota needs to recall the defective brakes, and make a remedy (upgraded brake parts) available to ALL affected owners, including those that were denied coverage under warranty, and are still driving around on original, faulty brakes.

There is a drastic throttle hesitation. When at a complete stop or from a slow speed, upon accelerating, it’s like the truck needs three seconds to realize I’m trying to go forward. In certain situations, this can be very dangerous. Has happened consistently since I have had the truck for 2.5 years. I tell the dealer every single time and they can’t ever duplicate it and if they could, they aren’t going to fix it anyway.

There is a significant lag on acceleration when coming to a slow stop. Best way to describe it...California rolling to a stop sign and when you want to go, it delays and then suddenly goes. And if you’re in any traffic heavy environment, it always seems to lag you harder than expected, then suddenly surges. It seems to always surprise you even though you’ve been experiencing it so many times already. I’ve found driving other vehicles gets me into trouble now, too. My daily driver is this Tundra, and I try to consciously adjust for the lag. When I get into any other vehicle it responds appropriately and, well, my expected lag isn’t there and I accelerate faster than usual and has also almost caused a collision, such as turning left into traffic, trying to time it just right between oncoming vehicles.

I received a recall notice for my 22 tundra for the engine replacement. I scheduled the service and the dealers wanted to charge me doing the engine swap. They stated that due to me having a lift kit (which I had years prior to this recall) that they couldn’t do the engine swap without removing the radiator and other front end pieces or removing the body from the frame which they stated would cost me thousands of dollars. I’m trying to understand why would I have to pay for a mishap on Toyota ‘s part with the engine recall remedy that came about 3 years after my truck and me getting a lift kit installed. Why should I have to pay thousands of dollars for something that I was unaware would need to be done years later after purchasing.

The vehicle has a delay in the throttle in some situations immediately following a deceleration. For example, when braking onto a yielding on ramp to check for traffic while coming to a near stop then pressing the throttle there is an obvious lag. That second or so of lag often results in the tires spinning due to a spike in throttle. In more than one instance I've experienced it from a dead stop but this is not as common as a slow deceleration to a roll.

When accelerating from a stop, occasionally my truck has a delay in acceleration. Typically worse when cold and consistantly reproducable within 5 minutes of cold start. My concern is primarily when turning into traffic on cold mornings. Earlier this week the delay seemed to be 2 or 3 seconds and I had to make a split-second decision to not pull out when previously I had plenty of space to get across the intersection. I have been experiencing this since I purchased the vehicle with ~24k miles on the odometer (currently more than 50k). The vehicle was brought to the dealership for inspection on this issue 2 times while under warranty. Dealer states they were unable to reproduce, but asked I leave the vehicle with them for an extended period of time (several days) for diagnosis, but without the option for a loaner car to cover my travels. I declined because it was my only vehicle at the time.

Throttle response is delayed intermittently. When proceeding from a stop or slow speed the truck will randomly have delayed acceleration. Then all of the sudden begins to accelerate with greater power and breaks the rear wheels free.

Occasionally (more frequently when cold) the vehicle does not accelerate from a stop or rolling stop. You depress the accelerator pedal and nothing happens, the vehicle does not accelerate. After a few seconds the vehicle will sometimes catch and rapidly accelerate and other times you have to release the pedal and depress the pedal again.

2022 Tundra, especially when the engine is cold, has issues accelerating well beyond what would be expected with "Turbo lag". On several occasions when entering a roundabout from a dead stop, the engine does not have any responsiveness at all (extends for several seconds), requiring the driver to release and re-engage the pedal. This creates a safety issue. The date reported on 12/30/24 is the most recent instance, but happens routinely.

Vehicle has experienced several times a severe hesitation from both complete stop and rolling stop. Seems as though it is stalling. Then will accelerate.

When coming to a stop, then pressing on the gas, the truck does not move. Its a dead gas pedal for approximately 2-4 seconds and then the truck takes off. Say i am trying to turn right at a light, then go to press on the gas, there is hesitation from the truck. I have brought this issue several times since i got the truck, a TSB from toyota was performed but the problem consistently persists. It does not happen everytime when coming from a stop but it is noticeable. Its a safety concern due to possibly being hit on the side when trying to merge into traffic.

I knew this was coming but I'm stunned by this notice and that NHTSA lets Toyota get away with this. Note the bolded warning in the attached notice. Sounds pretty serious and potentially catastrophic. I called the dealer on January 4th. I'm the third one to call into this dealership for this recall. They have no ETA on the replacement engine. So, I guess I should just continue to drive the truck and hope the engine doesn't seize while I'm going down the freeway? Wouldn't it make sense for NHTSA to direct Toyota to provide "us" with a loaner until the vehicle is repaired? Toyota and NHTSA may incur huge liability costs even if only one truck crashes because of this serious failure in workmanship. Every time I use the truck my "safety or the safety of others is put at risk." No kicking the can down the road NHTSA! Toyota screwed up BIG TIME! NHTSA needs to step up and protect consumers before something happens (again?).

THROTTLE LAG WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULITIPLE OCCASIONS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. NO WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING THIS. I FEAR THAT IF THIS DOES NOT GET FIXED MY FAMILY AND I WILL BE SEVERLEY INJURED OR MAY END UP DEAD. I TOOK IT TO 2 TOYOTA DEALERS. ONE IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS AND ONE IN DEL RIO, TEXAS THEY BOTH SAID, "WE SEE NOTHING WRONG. AND TO BRING IT IN WHEN IT STARTS HAPPENING AGAIN." ALSO THEY STATED THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT SENT ANY RECALLS OUT FOR THIS SO THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP.

There is a hesitation when applying a gas pedal after a stop or rolling stop. This is a safety issue when trying to merge into traffic as the small delay in acceleration can cause an accident. The dealer stated that this is normal operation for the vehicle.

When stopped at a traffic light waiting to make a left turn, I accelerated to start the turn. The truck moved forward slightly and stopped. All throttle response was gone and I was not able to move from the intersection and oncoming traffic. About 4 seconds later the throttle response returned and it drove normally. I was almost hit by an oncoming car for being stopped in the road. This occurs frequently at stop signs when I stop and go to accelerate. It is dangerous to not know if the truck will respond or not while turning in traffic.

The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while driving at approximately 70 MPH, the engine was making an abnormal knocking sound. The low-pressure warning light illuminated with a message to turn off the engine displayed. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The dealer informed the contact that failure might be related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V381000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, after reaching out to the manufacturer, the manufacturer denied coverage under the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called a local dealer, Mitchell Toyota (1500 Knickerbocker Rd, San Angelo, TX 76904); who had the vehicle towed to the location. The second dealer informed the contact that there was a 2 to 3-month wait for a replacement engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,500.

Vehicle has throttle lag when pushing the accelerator. Multiple times since owning vehicle, when pushing the accelerator pedal the engine/vehical doesn’t accelerate. This normally is from a complete stop situation. I have never seen any dashboard warning lights regaurding this issue. This has created on more than a handful of occasions myself and other occupants to be put in danger. I have not had a dealer look at this issue nor have any other agencies been involved. I do believe Toyota is aware of this but have not taken my vehical in for them to look at it.
