2014 TOYOTA TACOMA Complaints and Recall Information
The 2014 TOYOTA TACOMA has 4 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report issues with electrical components such as the heated seat ECU, abnormal noises from the front differential, unexpected wheel locking during curves, and problems with the entertainment radio system freezing and restarting on its own.
Common Issues
- Heated seat malfunction. The power connector for the heated seats melts due to improper wire connectors or gauge, rendering the heated seats inoperable and raising concerns about potential fire hazards inside the cab.
- Front differential noise. A persistent groaning sound comes from the front differential between 15-55 MPH, associated with wear and possibly requiring warranty-covered service per Toyota TSB #0026-15; no recall issued yet.
- Wheel locking during curves. Wheels lock up in curves, causing loss of vehicle control similar to hydroplaning, increasing the risk of collision; multiple trucks reportedly affected.
- Radio system failure. The radio intermittently freezes and turns back on after being turned off, automatically switching to the first saved AM station; this has occurred multiple times within a year.
Five recalls affect the 2014 Toyota Tacoma. They involve engine components, incorrect tire labels, improperly installed accessories, and issues related to accessory hood scoops. These recalls cover systems including the engine, tires, and exterior attachments.
Recalls
- Engine valve springs. Recall 13V557000 affects 3,795 vehicles produced between July 1 and October 11, 2013. Valve springs may break, causing engine failure or stalling that increases crash risk. Toyota notifies owners and replaces valve springs free of charge.
- Tire placard labeling. Recall 14V475000 covers 20,000 vehicles from model years 2008-2014. Incorrect spare tire size or inflation pressure is listed on the placard, risking tire failure and crashes. Toyota provides overlay stickers correcting the placard information.
- Accessory fastener torque. Recall 14V828000 affects 3,958 vehicles with accessories installed by Southeast Toyota Distributors (SET). Improperly tightened fasteners may cause accessory detachment, increasing crash and injury risk. SET inspects and retorques fasteners at dealers.
- Hood scoop detachment. Recalls 17V425000 (two entries) impact 3,547 vehicles with accessory hood scoops installed by SET. Adhesive failure may allow the hood scoop to detach, creating road hazards and crash risk. SET retrofits a mechanical fastener to secure the scoop at no cost.
Owners with repeated repairs involving safety defects or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney can help clarify those rights.

Hi. I file a complaint several years ago about their entertainment radio system freezing up intermittently. Happening now my radio after I turn it off will turn back on to the first AM setting saved even though I did not use it. After I turn it off the display shows the AM lit up as white not blue and it will turn back on repeatedly for a few more times before completely staying off. This has happened now 3 times this year.

When you are driving down the road and get in a curve the wheels lock up like you are on ice or hydroplaining and have no control of vehicle. only happens in curves and i know of multiple trucks doing this - if another car is coming from other direction you will hit them as you cant control truck

While driving the vehicle there is a groaning sound coming from the front end of the Tacoma from the front differential. There is a TSB from Toyota, but they only cover it under warranty and are not treating it as a recall. TSB # 0026-15. I think this is something that is causing wear to the front differential and could cause further damage/could lead to a crash if something was to lock up. The sound is consistent from 15-55 MPH no matter the driving.

Hello, writing to make a complaint about the heated seat ECU in my toyota tacoma. It looks like improper wire connectors or improper gauge wires have caused the power connector to melt, and have rendered my heated seats inoperable. It seems if a part gets hot enough inside the vehicle cab to warm up and melt, it could potentially cause a fire.
