Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Sienna vehicles equipped with seating for eight passengers. An incorrect seat belt webbing guide may have been installed on the outboard second-row seat belt assemblies.
Risk: During seat belt pre-tensioner deployment, the incorrect webbing guide may damage the seat belt webbing, causing it to tear and increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) recalled certain 2018-2019 4Runner, Highlander, Camry, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma and Tundra, and Lexus RC 300, RC 350, GS 350, GX 460, IS 300, LC 500, LS 500, LX 570, RX 350L, and 2019 Toyota Avalon and Corolla, and certain Lexus NX 300, and ES 350 vehicles on January 13, 2020. On March 4, 2020, Toyota expanded the recall to include certain 2014-2015 Toyota 4Runner and Land Cruiser, 2018 Avalon, Corolla, 2014 FJ Cruiser, 2017 Sienna and Lexus 2018 ES 350, 2018-2019 GS 300, 2013-2014 GS350, 2014-2015 GX 460, IS 350 and LX 570, 2014 IS F, 2018-2019 IS 350, LC 500H and LS 500H, 2013-2015 LS 460, 2015 NX 200T and RC350, 2017 RC 200T and RX 350. Toyota also removed the 2018-2019 Toyota 4Runner and Land Cruiser and 2018-2019 Lexus GX 460 and LX 570 and 2019 NX300 from inclusion in this recall. On March 19, 2020, Toyota expanded the recall to include 2015 Lexus GS350 vehicles. The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.

The load carrying capacity modification label may be incorrect. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Risk: The incorrect air bag sensor readings could cause the affected air bags to unintentionally deploy or to not deploy when intended, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury.

Brakes release briefly when slowing to a stop. While slowing to a stop with steady pressure on the brake pedal, the braking action will momentarily give out, resulting in the vehicle lurching forward beyond the anticipated stopping/slowing distance before the braking action re-engages. This has resulted in near collisions with cars, bikes, and pedestrians as the vehicle suddenly stops slowing without warning and unexpectedly increases stopping distance. The problem is intermittent and difficult to reproduce, but has occurred repeatedly over at least 6 months of ownership. No warning lamps, error messages, or other related symptoms from the vehicle either before or after occurrences of the problem. Has been taken to the dealership for an update to the vehicle but it didn’t fix it. There are multiple reports online and multiple lawyers talking about this.

My 2017 Toyota sienna has a whine noise coming from the transmission. Brought it to the dealer I have done everything at for this van and they say it’s the transmission and it will cost more than it’s worth. There’s a CSP-zjc but my vin isn’t on there. It’s presenting the same exact problem as the CSP. Unbelievably, Toyota CARES isn’t doing a “good will” service fix. Very disappointed in their customer service

Brakes will intermittently lurch when coming to a stop with normal braking pressure. The lurch feels like the brakes have stopped working and the driver has to press harder on the brake to avoid rear ending the vehicle in front. Brake pedal feels normal the entire time. Dealership is unable to duplicate on a test drive since the issue is intermittent.

Wobbling vibration on exterior mirror, driver side. It looks like incoming vehicles shake sideways. This happens on any bumpy road and it is easier to observe at highway speeds. Purchased on [XXX]. Vehicle is available for inspection. The distorted image resulting from mirror wobbling affects driver's awareness of surroundings, visibility gets worse at nights/rain due to blurred lights. This can lead to an accident. My regular dealerships in Milford, CT have confirmed the issue but have not been able to provide a fix. They say the vibration is normal. I do not believe so as the passenger side mirror never has issue like that. I have first noticed this issue a couple of weeks when driving on highway. Posting my case online has gotten at least 4 people reporting the same issue with the Sienna since 2021 in multiple trims. The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, there was a popping sound coming from the sunroof, and the contact discovered that the sunroof had shattered. Neither the dealer nor an independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

Toyota of Downtown LA Service tells me that the CPU on my relative new Sienna 2022 was fried from jump start when Sienna starting-battery was low. It was done by a AAA professional, I doubt that is the reason for the fried CPU. I believe Toyota engineers would not design/allow the CPU vulnerable to being fried from a jump start. This is a horrific design flaw if it is this way. This happens now, just 6 months after the 3 year warranty coverage. Toyota of Downtown LA Service is telling me it is going to cost me $2900 to replace this CPU. I find this unacceptable.

On rare occasions (about once every 500 miles), when uniformly applying force to the brake pedal, the deceleration suddenly ceases and the vehicle seems to jerk forward. To a passenger, it feels like the driver's foot slipped off the brake pedal, but the driver continued to provide the same uniform force to the brake pedal and lost all deceleration. Typically, the driver is startled and presses significantly harder on the brake pedal jerking all occupants forward. The brakes re-engage and continue the deceleration at a much higher rate. Toyota addressed this problem with TSB 4724 which involved reprogramming the brake actuator assembly. This corrected the problem for about 3 months, but it is now occurring again. When the car was taken to the Toyota dealer again, the technician stated that TSB 4724 was cancelled, he could not duplicate the action (even though he was told it only happened on rare occasions), and claimed that the "brakes function properly as they should." Fortunately these loss of braking incidents have only occurred on dry pavement so that the driver did not lose control of the car when slamming on the brakes to compensate for the loss of deceleration. Coming down a hill on a snow covered road could have caused the vehicle to slide into an oncoming lane. It is my speculation that there is a null spot that exists during certain circumstances which causes there to be a "gap" between when this hybrid vehicle transitions between the dynamic hybrid brake and the friction wheel brake. Both braking systems independently work fine, but the transition between them (on rare occasions) does not occur continuously. This causes the driver to experience an unexpected loss of braking which, under the right conditions, could cause the driver to loose control of the forward motion of the car. As an engineer, I feel it is unacceptable for a safety system (braking) to not properly operate 100% of the time! On a Toyota owner's site, others have seen the same.
