2015 TOYOTA 4RUNNER Complaints and Recall Information
The 2015 TOYOTA 4RUNNER has 2 complaints and 13 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the transmission failing without warning and front coil spring cracking on TRD Pro models, which could cause loss of vehicle control.
Common Issues- Transmission failure. The transmission stops working abruptly without prior warning, leaving owners without their vehicle. Dealer servicing did not reveal any prior indication of this problem.
- Front coil spring cracking. On TRD Pro models, the front coil spring may crack due to a design defect in how the spring terminates and seats on components. This can cause sudden loss of control and a potential crash. Broken spring pieces can eject under the vehicle and cause injury or property damage at highway speeds.
The vehicle has 13 recalls impacting various systems including exhaust components, accessories, airbag inflators, fuel pumps, and structural parts. Several recalls address defects in accessory installations and passenger and driver airbag inflator explosions. These recalls involve tens of thousands to over a million vehicles and include repairs or part replacements at no cost to owners.
Recalls- Exhaust tips. (NHTSA 15V515000, 16V577000) About 2,955 vehicles have accessory exhaust tips that can contact people standing behind the vehicle and cause burns. Dealers will install redesigned exhaust tips that are smaller and more recessed behind the bumper free of charge.
- Accessory installations. (NHTSA 14V828000) Approximately 3,958 vehicles may have improperly torqued accessory fasteners causing accessories like running boards to detach, which could cause crashes or injury. Dealers will inspect and tighten bolts free of charge.
- Passenger airbag inflator. (NHTSA 19V005000) Over 1,299,000 vehicles have passenger airbag inflators that may explode due to propellant degradation after exposure to humid and hot conditions, risking serious injury or death. Toyota will replace the inflator or airbag assembly free of charge.
- Load capacity labels. (NHTSA 16V228000) 844 vehicles have incorrect Load Carrying Capacity Labels due to accessories installed, leading to possible overloading and increased crash risk. Dealers will install corrected labels free of charge.
- Billet grille overlay. (NHTSA 17V763000) 431 vehicles have a faulty U-nut that may fracture and cause the grille overlay to detach, creating road hazards. Dealers will replace U-nuts with upgraded hardware free of charge.
- Hood scoop adhesion. (NHTSA 17V425000) 3,547 vehicles have adhesive failure on accessory hood scoops that may detach and become road hazards. Dealers will mechanically fasten the scoops at no cost to owners.
- Fuel pump failure. (NHTSA 20V012000) More than 1.8 million vehicles have low-pressure fuel pumps that may fail and stall the engine, increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace the fuel pump free of charge.
- Driver airbag inflator. (NHTSA 19V741000) 928,220 vehicles have replacement driver or passenger inflators that may explode due to degradation, risking injury or death. Dealers will replace affected inflators or airbag assemblies for free.

Front Coil Spring Cracking (TRD Pro Models) I observed cracking of the front coil spring, a design defect in the spring's termination and how it sits on the top hat and bottom perch. This can lead to a sudden loss of control and a crash. Furthermore, pieces of the broken spring coil can fly out underneath the vehicle and cause serious injury to person and/or damage property, when vehicle is driven at highway speeds.

My transmission went off with no warnings and my vehicle has been serviced at the Toyota dealer since I bought it and they never mentioned to me there was an issue with my transmission which is very odd. So I was wondering is this is normal or if there others owners with the same problem. Now I don’t have a vehicle because the transmission is in back order and I can’t even get a rental car because it wasn’t an accident or a recall. So I would like for you to look into this issue for this Toyota model.
