Recalls- Adaptive mobility equipment. NHTSA recall 12V226000 affects 100 vehicles with Braun Century-2 and Vista-2 wheelchair lifts. Roll stop latches on the outer barrier may become bent or misaligned, allowing a wheelchair occupant to defeat or ride over the latch. This presents a fall risk when the lift platform is elevated. Repairs are conducted by authorized Braun dealers free of charge starting June 28, 2012.
- Adaptive mobility equipment. Recall 12V225000 involves 890 vehicles with similar Braun wheelchair lift latch issues as described in recall 12V226000. The risk and remedy are the same, with free repairs from authorized Braun dealers beginning June 28, 2012.
- Roof hatch assembly. Recall 12V296000 covers 1,312 2010-2013 busses equipped with Specialty Manufacturing Inc. (SMI) Prolo roof hatches. Excessive friction in rear plate assemblies may cause the hatch opening force to exceed federal standards, compromising emergency egress. Service kits and repair instructions are provided free by SMI starting August 22, 2012.
- Roof hatch assembly. Recall 12V297000 affects 163 non-school buses from 2010-2013 with the same SMI Prolo roof hatch defects and risks noted in recall 12V296000. The fix is identical and provided free by SMI as of August 22, 2012.
- Wheelchair lift folding link arms. Recall 15V565000 involves 4,334 model year 2006-2015 Thomas Built buses with certain Ricon lifts. Oversized pivot holes allow bearings to move out of position, risking platform mounting failure. The platform could detach when doors open, posing injury risk. Inspections and part replacements are free and started November 2, 2015.
- Wheelchair lift folding link arms. Recall 15V564000 impacts 52 transit buses from model years 2006-2015 with the same Ricon wheelchair lift issues described in recall 15V565000. Owners receive free inspections and repairs beginning November 2, 2015.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues involving safety systems like wheelchair lifts or emergency exits may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting legal assistance can help clarify protections and options.
