Recalls- Roof hatch friction (12V297000). Affects 163 vehicles from 2010-2013 with SMI Prolo roof hatches. Excessive opening force may hinder emergency exit access, increasing risk of injury. Owners will be notified and service kits provided free. The recall began August 22, 2012.
- Fuel tank strap mounting (14V759000, 14V760000). Covers 4,628 buses from 2013-2015 built on GM or Ford chassis with gasoline engines. Loose fasteners may allow the tank to contact the ground, risking fuel leaks or fire. Dealers will inspect and secure straps at no cost. Recall began January 26, 2015.
- Wheelchair lift folding link arms (15V565000, 15V564000). Impacts 4,386 buses from 2006-2015 with certain Ricon lifts. Oversized pivot holes may allow bearings to shift, leading to platform mounting failure which could cause the lift platform to fall. Inspections and part replacements are free. Recall began November 2, 2015.
- Seat mounting reinforcement (14V075000). Affects 3 dual rear wheel non-school buses from 2013-2015 with specific rear seats. Missing floor reinforcement channels may reduce occupant restraint in crashes, increasing injury risk. Dealers will install the missing channels free of charge. Recall began April 17, 2014.
- Wheelchair lift parking brake interlock (19V170000, 20V690000, 18V157000, 18V158000, 18V301000). Covers over 5,000 buses from 2002-2021 with various wheelchair lift models. Defects allow operation without parking brake engaged or while in neutral/drive, increasing injury risk. Dealers will modify wiring and electrical connections at no cost. Recalls began between 2018 and 2021.
- Body control module failure (16V103000). Affects 2,323 buses from 2012-2017 built on GM chassis. Module failure causes intermittent or total loss of exterior lighting or windshield wiper function, decreasing visibility and increasing crash risk. Dealers will modify wiring free of charge. Recall began April 18, 2016.
- Kidde fire extinguisher malfunction (18V083000). Impacts 606 buses from 2002-2017 equipped with certain Kidde plastic-handle or push button fire extinguishers. Clogging or nozzle detachment may prevent discharge and cause injury. Owners will be instructed to get a free replacement from Kidde. Recall expected to start March 30, 2018.
Owners with repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues involving safety defects such as wheelchair lifts and fuel tank mounting may have protections under their state lemon laws. Consulting a qualified attorney for guidance on these rights is recommended.
