Eight recalls affect multiple systems on this vehicle, primarily those related to adaptive mobility equipment and appliances.
Recalls- Air conditioner fuse issue. NHTSA recall 11V227000 affects 2,130 vehicles equipped with Carrier GENV EM-1 evaporator units. The fuse may loosen due to vibration or temperature, causing arcing and possible fuse holder melting, which could result in a vehicle fire. Owners will receive retrofit kits and repair instructions free of charge.
- Wheelchair lift roll stop latch. Under NHTSA recall 12V186000, 2,060 vehicles with Braun Century-2 and Vista-2 lifts face risk that roll stop latches may bend or misalign. This defect allows a wheelchair occupant to defeat or ride over the latch when elevated, risking falls and injury. Repairs are performed by Braun dealers at no charge.
- Wheelchair lift software defect. Recall 10V203000 covers 183 buses with certain Ricon S and K series lifts. Software controlling the "up" function may cause the lift to overrun floor level, causing platform angles of 15-20 degrees and potential falls. A software fix is pending; owners receive operation training aids free of charge.
- Wheelchair lift restraint belt malfunction. NHTSA recall 10V204000 involves 805 vehicles with Ricon public use lifts. The restraint belt can appear latched without full engagement, allowing unsafe lift operation. Ricon provides warning decals and training aids at no cost as the remedy.
- Armored pendant cable risk. Recall 13V067000 affects 1,858 buses with Ricon lifts having optional armored pendant cables. Improper installation may cause cable contact with power lugs, raising the risk of short circuit and fire. Ricon supplies supplemental covers free of charge.
- Cracking of lift platform side plate. NHTSA recall 14V662000 covers 1,705 buses with certain Ricon wheelchair lifts. Cracked side plates can cause the platform to detach and fall when doors open, risking operator injury. Owners receive supplemental support bumpers or platform replacements for free.
- Lift platform and bearing issues. Recall 16V369000 involves 759 buses with certain Ricon lifts. Pivot hole size may allow bearings to move out of position, causing excessive platform movement and possible platform failure that could lead to falls. Inspections and repairs are free of charge.
- Folding link arm bearing displacement. NHTSA recall 16V014000 affects 1,762 buses with Ricon wheelchair lifts. Bearings may become displaced due to oversized pivot holes, creating platform mounting failure risk and potential operator injury. Inspections and repairs will be performed free of charge; this follows a similar prior recall.
Owners with repeated repairs related to wheelchair lifts and other safety defects or unresolved recall issues may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting a qualified attorney familiar with these cases is advisable for further assistance.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
STARTRANS BUS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 THROUGH 2010 CANDIDATE, CANDIDATE II, SENATOR, SENATOR HD, PRESIDENT, TROLLEY, SENATOR II, AND SENTINAL TRANSIT BUSES MANUFACTURED FROM DECEMBER 2007 THROUGH DECEMBER 18, 2009 AND FITTED WITH RICON PUBLIC USE LIFTS. THE RESTRAINT BELT ON THESE LIFTS WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE LIFT FROM MOVING, UNLESS THE TONGUE OF THE BELT IS FULLY ENGAGED AND LATCHED IN THE BUCKLE. RICON HAS DISCOVERED, HOWEVER, THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE OPERATOR TO INSERT THE BELT TONGUE INTO THE BUCKLE WITHOUT FULLY ENGAGING THE LATCHING MECHANISM. IN THIS CASE, THE RESTRAINT BELT WOULD APPEAR TO BE LATCHED, AND THE OPERATOR COULD RUN THE LIFT. IF THE RESTRAINT BELT TONGUE IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED INTO THE RESTRAINT BELT BUCKLE, AND LATCHED, THE LIFT MAY OPERATE WITH AN OCCUPANT ON THE PLATFORM.
Risk: THE USER OF THE LIFT COULD BE INJURED SHOULD THE LIFT MOVE WITHOUT THE RESTRAINT BELT PROPERLY BUCKLED.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
STARTRANS BUS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 CANDIDATE, CANDIDATE II, SENATOR, SENATOR HD, PRESIDENT, TROLLEY, AND SENATOR II TRANSIT BUSES MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 2007 THROUGH DECEMBER 18, 2009, AND FITTED WITH CERTAIN RICON S SERIES AND K SERIES L-MODEL WHEELCHAIR LIFTS. DUE TO A PROBLEM IN THE SOFTWARE THAT CONTROLS THE LIFT'S "UP" FUNCTION, SHOULD THE "UP" BUTTON BE RELEASED BEFORE THE FLOOR LEVEL LIMIT SWITCH IS ACTIVATED, THE LIFT MAY CONTINUE ITS UPWARD TRAVEL AND MAY OVERRUN THE FLOOR LEVEL CUT OFF POINT.
Risk: WHEN THE PLATFORM OVERRUNS THE VEHICLE FLOOR LEVEL AND STOPS AT AN ANGLE FROM 15-20 DEGREES, IT IS POSSIBLE FOR A PERSON IN A WHEELCHAIR TO TIP OVER AND FOR SOMEONE STANDING ON THE PLATFORM TO FALL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN INJURIES.
