The 2008 STARTRANS SENATOR has 0 complaints and 7 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report defects related to adaptive mobility equipment, particularly wheelchair lifts, and issues involving the air conditioning system. The complaints data shows no formal grievances.
There are seven recalls addressing various safety defects primarily involving wheelchair lifts and air conditioning components. These recalls involve safety risks such as fire hazards and potential injuries related to wheelchair lift malfunctions.
Recalls- Air conditioner fuse issue. NHTSA recall 11V227000 affects 2,130 vehicles. The fuse in Carrier GENV EM-1 evaporator units may loosen, causing high resistance and arcing that can melt the fuse holder and lead to a vehicle fire. Owners will receive retrofit kits and free repairs starting April 2011.
- Wheelchair lift roll stop latch. NHTSA recall 12V186000 involves 2,060 transit buses with Braun Century-2 and Vista-2 lifts. The roll stop latches may bend or misalign, allowing wheelchair occupants to fall if the lift is elevated. Repairs are performed free of charge by authorized dealers from June 2012.
- Lift restraint belt failure. NHTSA recall 10V204000 covers 805 buses equipped with Ricon public use lifts. The restraint belt tongue can be inserted improperly, causing the lift to operate unsafely with an occupant. Owners receive warning decals and training aids. The recall began July 2010.
- Armored pendant cable short circuit. NHTSA recall 13V067000 includes 1,858 buses with Ricon lifts having improperly installed armored pendant cables that may short circuit and cause a fire. Ricon provides supplemental covers and instructions starting March 2013.
- Wheelchair lift platform side plate cracking. NHTSA recall 14V662000 affects 1,705 buses with Ricon lifts. Cracks in platform side plates may cause the lift platform to separate and fall out when doors open, risking operator injury. Supplemental supports or platform replacement are provided from November 2014.
- Platform side plate cracking and bearing displacement. NHTSA recall 16V369000 involves 759 buses with Ricon lifts. Cracking side plates and oversized pivot holes may allow bearings to move out of place, causing the platform to fall out and potentially injure operators. Inspections and part replacements started June 2016.
- Folding link arm pivot hole defect. NHTSA recall 16V014000 covers 1,762 buses with Ricon lifts. Oversized pivot holes can displace bearings, leading to platform failure and fall risks. Inspecting and repairing affected parts began March 2016. This recall applies even if prior 2014 remedies were performed.
Owners with repeated safety-related repairs, unresolved recall issues, or defects affecting vehicle use may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a legal expert specializing in lemon law is advisable for those facing ongoing problems.

Supreme Corporation (Supreme) is recalling certain model year 2008-2014 Azure Hybrid, Candidate, Senator, Senator HD, Senator II, President, President S2, Sentinel, and Trolley shuttle buses manufactured May 9, 2008, to August 9, 2014, equipped with certain model S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510 wheelchair lifts manufactured by Ricon. The affected lifts are equipped with folding link arms that may have pivot holes that are too big, allowing the bearings to move out of position.
Risk: If the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement resulting in failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheel chair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.

STARTRANS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH BRAUN CENTURY-2 AND VISTA-2 WHEELCHAIR LIFTS. OVER TIME AND WITH FREQUENT USE, THE ROLL STOP LATCHES ON THE OUTER BARRIER MAY BECOME BENT OR MISALIGNED. SEE THE ABOVE LIST FOR THE AFFECTED MODELS.

STARTRANS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 THROUGH 2010 TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH CARRIER GENV EM-1 EVAPORATOR UNITS. DUE TO TIME, TEMPERATURE, AND/OR VIBRATION, THE FUSE MAY LOOSEN IN THE FUSE HOLDER RESULTING IN HIGH RESISTANCE AND ARCING.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
STARTRANS BUS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 THROUGH 2010 CANDIDATE, CANDIDATE II, SENATOR, SENATOR HD, PRESIDENT, TROLLEY, SENATOR II, AND SENTINAL TRANSIT BUSES MANUFACTURED FROM DECEMBER 2007 THROUGH DECEMBER 18, 2009 AND FITTED WITH RICON PUBLIC USE LIFTS. THE RESTRAINT BELT ON THESE LIFTS WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE LIFT FROM MOVING, UNLESS THE TONGUE OF THE BELT IS FULLY ENGAGED AND LATCHED IN THE BUCKLE. RICON HAS DISCOVERED, HOWEVER, THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE OPERATOR TO INSERT THE BELT TONGUE INTO THE BUCKLE WITHOUT FULLY ENGAGING THE LATCHING MECHANISM. IN THIS CASE, THE RESTRAINT BELT WOULD APPEAR TO BE LATCHED, AND THE OPERATOR COULD RUN THE LIFT. IF THE RESTRAINT BELT TONGUE IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED INTO THE RESTRAINT BELT BUCKLE, AND LATCHED, THE LIFT MAY OPERATE WITH AN OCCUPANT ON THE PLATFORM.
Risk: THE USER OF THE LIFT COULD BE INJURED SHOULD THE LIFT MOVE WITHOUT THE RESTRAINT BELT PROPERLY BUCKLED.
