2007 STARTRANS SENATOR Complaints and Recall Information
The 2007 STARTRANS SENATOR has 0 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to equipment components, especially adaptive mobility features such as wheelchair lifts and air conditioning units. The recalls address defects that could pose fire hazards and safety risks related to lift operation and electrical systems.
Five recalls affect various systems mainly tied to air conditioning and adaptive mobility equipment. These recalls focus on preventing fire hazards and ensuring the safe operation of wheelchair lifts installed on certain transit buses.
Recalls- Air conditioner fuse issue. Recall 11V227000 affects 2,130 vehicles with Carrier GENV EM-1 evaporator units. Fuses may loosen due to time, temperature, or vibration causing high resistance and arcing, which could melt the fuse holder and cause a vehicle fire. Owners will receive retrofit kits and repair instructions free of charge.
- Wheelchair lift roll stop defect. Recall 12V186000 covers 2,060 buses with Braun Century-2 and Vista-2 wheelchair lifts. Roll stop latches may bend or misalign from frequent use, risking wheelchair occupants falling if the lift platform is elevated. Repairs will be performed free by authorized dealers.
- Evaporator power resistor fire risk. Recall 10V562000 involves 2,393 vehicles with Trans/Air TA73 evaporators. A short circuit can cause the power resistor to overheat and ignite the plastic blower housing, creating a fire risk. A thermal shutdown device will be installed at no cost.
- Restraint belt latch failure. Recall 10V204000 affects 805 buses with Ricon public use lifts. The belt tongue may insert without fully engaging the latch, allowing the lift to operate improperly with an occupant on board. Ricon will provide a warning decal and training aid free of charge.
- Wheelchair lift pendant cable fire hazard. Recall 13V067000 covers 1,858 vehicles equipped with Ricon wheelchair lifts having optional armored pendant cables that may contact power lugs or lack proper protective covers. This could cause a short circuit and fire. Ricon will supply a protective cover kit and instructions for free.
Owners facing repeated repairs or safety-related defects linked to recalls may want to explore their rights under state lemon laws. These regulations exist to assist consumers dealing with unresolved safety issues or defects affecting their transit buses.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
Supreme Corporation (Supreme) is recalling certain model year 2006-2012 Startrans Trolley, Sentinel, Senator HD, Senator, Candidate, C2, S2, PS2, and President transit buses equipped with Ricon manufactured wheelchair lifts which have an optional armored pendant cable. The cable may have been installed such that it doesn't clear the wheelchair lift and without a protective cover, or a misinstalled protective cover.
Risk: The cable may contact the power lug at the base of the wheel chair lift causing a short circuit that could result in a fire.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
STARTRANS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH BRAUN CENTURY-2 AND VISTA-2 WHEELCHAIR LIFTS. OVER TIME AND WITH FREQUENT USE, THE ROLL STOP LATCHES ON THE OUTER BARRIER MAY BECOME BENT OR MISALIGNED. SEE THE ABOVE LIST FOR THE AFFECTED MODELS.
Risk: A WHEELCHAIR OCCUPANT MAY DEFEAT OR RIDE OVER THE INSUFFICIENTLY LATCHED ROLL STOP. IF THIS OCCURS WHEN THE LIFT PLATFORM IS IN AN ELEVATED POSITION, THE WHEELCHAIR¬ÃS OCCUPANT COULD FALL AND SUSTAIN INJURY.

STARTRANS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 THROUGH 2010 TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH CARRIER GENV EM-1 EVAPORATOR UNITS. DUE TO TIME, TEMPERATURE, AND/OR VIBRATION, THE FUSE MAY LOOSEN IN THE FUSE HOLDER RESULTING IN HIGH RESISTANCE AND ARCING.
Risk: IF SUFFICIENT ARCING OCCURS, THE FUSE HOLDER MAY MELT, AND A VEHICLE FIRE MAY OCCUR.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
STARTRANS BUS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 THROUGH 2010 CANDIDATE, CANDIDATE II, SENATOR, SENATOR HD, PRESIDENT, TROLLEY, SENATOR II, AND SENTINAL TRANSIT BUSES MANUFACTURED FROM DECEMBER 2007 THROUGH DECEMBER 18, 2009 AND FITTED WITH RICON PUBLIC USE LIFTS. THE RESTRAINT BELT ON THESE LIFTS WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE LIFT FROM MOVING, UNLESS THE TONGUE OF THE BELT IS FULLY ENGAGED AND LATCHED IN THE BUCKLE. RICON HAS DISCOVERED, HOWEVER, THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE OPERATOR TO INSERT THE BELT TONGUE INTO THE BUCKLE WITHOUT FULLY ENGAGING THE LATCHING MECHANISM. IN THIS CASE, THE RESTRAINT BELT WOULD APPEAR TO BE LATCHED, AND THE OPERATOR COULD RUN THE LIFT. IF THE RESTRAINT BELT TONGUE IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED INTO THE RESTRAINT BELT BUCKLE, AND LATCHED, THE LIFT MAY OPERATE WITH AN OCCUPANT ON THE PLATFORM.
Risk: THE USER OF THE LIFT COULD BE INJURED SHOULD THE LIFT MOVE WITHOUT THE RESTRAINT BELT PROPERLY BUCKLED.

EQUIPMENT
STARTRANS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 AND 2007 CANDIDATE, CANDIDATE II, SENATOR HD, TROLLEY, PRESIDENT, SENATOR, AND SENATOR II TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH TRANS/AIR TA73 EVAPORATORS. THE EVAPORATOR UTILIZES A POWER RESISTOR TO REGULATE BLOWER SPEED. SHOULD A SHORT OCCUR IN THE "LOW OR MEDIUM SPEED" CIRCUIT WHILE THE BLOWER IS IN HIGH SPEED, THE SHORT WILL CAUSE THE SUPPLY VOLTAGE TO FEEDBACK THROUGH THE RESISTOR TO GROUND, NOT DRAWING ENOUGH CURRENT TO TRIP THE FUSE.
Risk: THIS WOULD CAUSE THE RESISTOR TEMPERATURE TO RISE TO A POINT WHERE IT WILL MELT AND POSSIBLY IGNITE THE PLASTIC BLOWER HOUSING TO WHICH IT IS MOUNTED. THE OVERHEATING CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.
