2015 SCION FR-S Complaints and Recall Information
The 2015 SCION FR-S has 1 complaint and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report issues related to engine components. The single complaint involves a broken valve spring, which has been acknowledged as a known issue with related recalls available for inspection.
Common Issues
- Valve spring failure. A valve spring can break completely, affecting engine performance and reliability. This issue has been linked to prior recalls on the vehicle.
The 2015 SCION FR-S is subject to four recalls covering equipment installation, ignition key safety, and labeling accuracy. These recalls address potential accessory detachment, rollaway risks, and improper load capacity information.
Recalls
- Accessory installation. NHTSA Recall 14V828000 affects 3,958 vehicles. Southeast Toyota Distributors found that certain accessories like running boards were incorrectly installed due to improperly tightened fasteners. Detached accessories can cause crashes or injuries. Dealers inspect and tighten affected bolts free of charge.
- Ignition key removal. NHTSA Recall 16V075000 involves 25,706 vehicles with automatic transmissions and ignition keys (push-to-start models excluded). The key may be removed without shifting to "Park," causing a risk of vehicle rollaway and crash. Dealers inspect and correct wiring connections at no cost to owners.
- Park/neutral start interlock. Also covered by NHTSA Recall 16V075000 on the same 25,706 vehicles. The defect in the interlock system allows key removal without transmission in "Park," risking vehicle rollaway. The fix involves dealer inspection and necessary repairs free of charge.
- Load carrying capacity label. NHTSA Recall 16V420000 affects 4,253 vehicles. The label may not show the correct weight for installed accessories, leading to possible vehicle overloading and increased crash risk. Owners receive a corrected label from Southeast Toyota Distributors free of charge.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs related to these recalls or safety defects should consider reviewing their rights under state lemon laws. Persistent unresolved issues may qualify for legal protections and remedies.
