2011 RAM 2500 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2011 RAM 2500 has 1 complaint and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. The single complaint involves repetitive failure of the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), which the owner reports replaced once outside of warranty. Owners most frequently report problems related to electrical component failures such as the TIPM.
The vehicle also has five recalls addressing issues primarily with steering components, fuel system, engine, and transmission controls. These recalls involve potential safety risks linked to the structural integrity of steering linkages, overheating in the diesel fuel heater connectors, and transmission shift interlock malfunctions.
Common Issues- TIPM failure. The Totally Integrated Power Module fails multiple times causing electrical system malfunctions, requiring repeated replacement outside warranty coverage.
The five recalls affect safety-critical systems including steering, fuel system, and transmission. They involve inspections and replacements to prevent accidents and fire risks.
Recalls- Left tie rod assembly. NHTSA recall 11V350000 affects 242,780 vehicles. The left tie rod ball stud may fracture during low speed turns leading to loss of directional stability and crash risk. Dealers inspect and replace the left outer tie rod as needed, performing alignment free of charge. The recall started October 3, 2011.
- Steering linkage assembly. Recall 13V529000 covers 271,733 vehicles. The left tie rod assembly may break causing loss of steering control and increased crash risk. Chrysler offers inspection and replacement, repurchase options, or incentive offers. Remedy programs paused then reinstated. Owners notified starting August 31, 2015.
- Diesel fuel heater connectors. Recall 14V635000 involves 315,325 vehicles. Electrical connectors may overheat causing fuel leaks and fire risk. Dealers replace connectors with upgraded terminals and inspect for leaks, repairing as needed at no cost. Notification began April 27, 2015.
- Diesel fuel heater system. Same recall 14V635000 addresses engine and cooling system defect related to diesel fuel heater overheating and leakage. Repairs align with the description above.
- Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI). Recall 17V821000 affects 1,482,874 vehicles including 2011 RAM 2500. The BTSI pin can stick open, allowing the transmission to shift out of PARK without brake pedal engagement or key in ignition, increasing rollaway risk. Dealers update software, inspect, and replace BTSI free of charge. Recall began February 26, 2018.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs of safety-related defects or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Legal counsel is advisable for addressing persistent mechanical and safety concerns.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.
Risk: Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
