2010 RAM 2500 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2010 RAM 2500 has 1 complaint and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. The lone complaint involves the ignition key falling out of the ignition while driving over uneven pavement at approximately 70 MPH. The key fell out multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic but was not repaired or diagnosed. The owner confirmed the vehicle was not included in a related NHTSA recall.
Common Issues
- Ignition key ejection. The key falls out of the ignition when driving over uneven pavement, causing repeated interruptions.
The 2010 RAM 2500 has five recalls affecting steering components, the fuel system, engine-related parts, and the transmission system. These recalls address potential failures that could impair vehicle control or create fire risks.
Recalls
- Left tie rod assembly fracture. NHTSA Campaign 11V350000 affects 242,780 vehicles. The left tie rod ball stud may fracture during low-speed maneuvers, risking loss of directional stability of the left front wheel. Dealers inspect and replace the left outer tie rod as needed and align the front end at no cost.
- Steering linkage failure. Campaign 13V529000 involves 271,733 vehicles. The left tie rod assembly may break, causing loss of steering control. Owners are offered repair, vehicle repurchase, or an incentive towards a new vehicle. Dealers inspect and replace the assembly if needed.
- Diesel fuel heater electrical connectors. Campaign 14V635000 covers 315,325 vehicles. Electrical connectors may overheat, causing the fuel heater to leak fuel and increase fire risk. Dealers replace connectors with improved terminals and inspect for leaks, repairing as required free of charge.
- Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin malfunction. Campaign 17V821000 affects 1,482,874 vehicles including the 2010 RAM 2500. Prolonged brake pedal pressing while in PARK may cause the BTSI pin to stick open, allowing the transmission to shift out of PARK without the brake pedal or ignition key. Dealers update software and inspect or replace the BTSI as needed free of charge.
Owners with repeated repairs, safety defects, or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon laws. Those dealing with ongoing problems should consider consulting consumer protection resources for further assistance.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.
Risk: Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
