AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW:CURTAIN:INFLATOR

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Ram 3500, Ram 1500, 2016-2020 Ram 2500, and 2016 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis vehicles. The right and left side curtain air bag inflators may rupture due to a manufacturing defect.

Risk: An inflator rupture may result in sharp metal fragments striking occupants, resulting in injury.

The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate, causing the engine to lose its ability to synchronize the fuel injector pulses and cam shaft timing, possibly resulting in an engine stall.

The side air bag inflatable curtain (SABIC) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator, or the inflator sidewall may rupture.

Risk: A separated inflator end cap or inflator rupture can allow compressed gas to escape, resulting in the end cap or other components being propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Chrysler is also recalling all 2013-2014 and 2018 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks built before April 1, 2018 with a 6 or 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. On August 29, 2019 Chrysler expanded the recall to include an additional 693,128 model year 2013-2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks. The tailgate actuator limiter tab may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving.

Risk: If the tailgate opens while the vehicle is being driven, cargo may fall out the vehicle and create a road hazard, increasing the risk of crash.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE)

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 1500 Classic Pickup trucks equipped with 3.0L Eco Diesel engines. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler may crack and allow pre-heated vaporized coolant to enter the EGR system. This mixture may combust inside the intake manifold.

Risk: Combustion in the intake manifold can increase the risk of a fire.

STRUCTURE:BODY:TAILGATE

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2015-2017 RAM 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks equipped with a power locking tailgate and either a 5 foot, 7 inch or 6 foot, 4 inch bed. The tailgate actuator limiter tab may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving.

Risk: If the tailgate latch releases and the tailgate opens while driving, cargo may fall out, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

Risk: Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.

Risk: If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 1500 trucks. The differential pin retaining screw may come loose while driving, potentially causing the differential to break or lock up.

Risk: A broken or locked up differential may result in a loss of motive power and possibly a loss of vehicle control. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.

ENGINE

VIN [XXX] Recall “66A Loss of Crankshaft position”. Why is this recall only a software update and does not fix the issue causing the recall? The faulty part is the Tone Wheel and the delamination of the magnetic material on the wheel. The software update just allows the car to drive faster, (40mph) to get it to the dealer for the $2k plus repair. Daimler Chrysler or Fiat, who makes the EcoDiesel engine should be required to pay for this repair. The safety issue is still present. Driving 40mph at 4200rpm on the freeway is a safety concern. SERVICE BRAKES

What component or system failed or malfunctioned: Electronic/ABS-Anti-Lock Braking System, and is it available for inspection upon request? YES. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? When the light comes on, brakes shake and when on a wet/slippery surface, pushing down on brake pedal, feels like there's no brakes and it's hitting metal. There's been a recall for other 2017-2018 RAM models for the defective Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) that can cause failures in the anti-lock braking (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control systems and this seems to be the same issue. It's a Dodge RAM 1500 5.7L Hemi and only has 17,200 miles on it, seems odd to have this issue and not be included in the recall. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? NO Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? NO Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, warning lights show: 1. ABS with a circle around it, 2. a car with 2 wavy tire tracks behind it and a message stating: "Service Electronic Braking System" and "4 Wheel Drive Disabled" light has been going on and off for a couple years

TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for routine maintenance, the contact was informed that the drive pinion seal of the rear differential was leaking, and an unknown bolt was bent. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the oil pressure warning light illuminated, and the TPMS warning light illuminated. The contact was unsure what repairs needed to be performed. The dealer advised the contact to stop driving the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to that NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V198000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 159,000.

SERVICE BRAKES

I am writing to formally express my concern and disappointment regarding the unavailability of Mopar part #68295368AC, the ABS Control Module for the 2017 Ram 1500 Big Horn. As a result, both the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and cruise control are inoperative. This creates a serious hazard: without a functioning ABS, the risk of skidding and collisions increases significantly. In some cases, owners have reported vehicles rendered undriveable due to locked brakes caused by this failure. On [XXX], I brought my vehicle to Arrigo Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Fort Pierce, Florida for scheduled 70,000-mile service. During intake, I showed the service advisor the illuminated ABS warning lights on my dashboard (see attached photos). Using On-Board Diagnostic Scanner (OBD service dongle), the advisor confirmed an active error code for internal ABS module failure. The service team performed the routine oil change and provided me a Multi-Point Inspection report. However, the report reflected all “green” results and contained no notation regarding the ABS failure, despite the confirmed error. After leaving the dealership and reviewing the documentation, I immediately returned. At that time, the advisor reconnected the diagnostic tool, again confirmed ABS Module Internal Failure, and explained the part was unavailable nationwide with no timeline for restock. I specifically requested to purchase the ABS module replacement for a total amount of $811.58 so this part would be noted in my service record. The service advisor added a note on the invoice that the Customer is aware that the part is on back order with no ETA at this time. Reference the following documentation dated 08/14/25: 1. We have paid for everything out of pocket and we are still having all these problems and the mechanics can not figure out the problem,but are guessing it the fuel pump or fuel injectors.

There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and became aware that the fuel tank strap had detached from the corroded fuel tank strap bracket. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. SERVICE BRAKES

Anti-lock Brake Module Internal Electronic Failure. Currently, impossible to replace part due to backorder. Mopar needs to include 2017 Ram 1500 in their ABS Recall for 2019+ models.

ENGINE

Ram 1500 Exhaust Manifold Exhaust in passenger cabinet causing sore throat, headache and asthma exacerbation. Loud ticking sound when starting and acceleration.

STEERING

Driving and powersteering takes over or quits working and makes it dangerous turning. Electric powersteering switch/sensor failure making the truck uncontrollable while taking a turn

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:INSTRUMENT PANEL:SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2017 RAM 1500 from a private seller. The contact stated that the sales advertisement and the odometer indicated that the mileage was 89,400. In addition, the contact was informed that the vehicle had been in one previous accident. The contact purchased the Carfax report, which indicated that on December 26, 2024, the vehicle received a transfer case replacement, and the mileage was reported at 181,000. The contact stated for confirmation of the information, the contact purchased a second car fax report, which shared the same information. The contact stated that the seller declined contact.

STEERING

The contact owns a 2017 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

There is a current recall for ram 1500s with faults in their Abs systems, which causes their ECS system to disable itself. My 2017 vehicle has been experiencing this issue since purchase in 2019. I have tried to get ram dealerships to diagnose this issue several times, but each time they say that they cannot recreate the fault. My goal in filling this report is to get my vehicle added to this recall.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The tone wheel magnet broke apart and is not a part of recall 66a.my truck is currently in the shop awaiting repairs.

STEERING

Power steering will turn off randomly while driving. It makes it very hard to turn and is extremely dangerous to drive. It is a safety hazard for me, my family, and anybody on the road nearby. The problem has happened multiple times with no warning. The power steering will work fine for a period of time but randomly cut off. Vehicle was brought to a dealer but they are unable to replicate the issue while the steering is working. Upon further research, this seems to be an issue with many trucks of this make and model. The part to replace it (electronic power steering assembly) is on back order or out of stock due to so many of these trucks having this issue. Again this is extremely dangerous and deserves a recall at minimum.

ENGINE

Abs module not communicating and is common issue. It is so common thee is a back order on abs module and you can’t obtain one with dealer or online. So Dodge is ok with poee driving around with no abs and it also disables trailer brakes and cruise control but no resolve with manufacture.

At 60,000 miles I started experiencing power steering failure at random times. Speed of vehicle or time of year did not matter. Vehicle becomes extremely difficult to steer. This is the electronic steering rack. This has been continuing on for 20,000+ miles and I cannot take it anymore. I feel like I have gotten a lemon and I am continuing to put myself and others at risk. I will not allow other members of my family to drive this vehicle because of the safety concerns. I am aware of no recall on the 2017 remodel year but there is on the previous year - which is when my vehicle was manufactured. There were no warnings when this started happening...no check engine light or other issues. I recently had an inspection and quote (attached) to repair but is cost prohibitive at the moment. I am honestly considering legal action if possible.

The Service Power Steering light came on while I was driving my truck on I80 and left me with no power steering.While I was driving on the interstate there were several times where the vehicle didn't want to turn unless I really jerked on the steering wheel which in turn jerked the truck into the passing lane once the wheels turned and came close on 2 occasions of hitting the vehicle in the passing lane. I was able to get it home and to the garage and my steering rack needed to be replaced at a cost of $2319.16 + tax. I see that there was a recall for this exact problem for Ram trucks up to year 2016 but unfortunately mine is a 2017. I have been on many forums and there are so many others out there with a 2017 or newer Ram that has this exact same problem so this isn't a "my truck" problem this is a Ram problem that needs to be recalled before accidents are caused by this (which I'm sure some accidents have already happened due to the steering rack).

Almost went into other lane of traffic almost causing an accident at 70mph. Was able to get vehicle to side of road. Turned off and back on then power steering worked. On the way home the power steering failed again almost causing another wreck. Turned truck off and back on and worked again. This almost caused me to wreck 2 times in one day. The warning message displayed at the exact timing that power steering was lost so no advanced warning of any issues. Code states that there is a software problem with the EPS unit. 2015-2016 Rams had a recall for the exact same issue that I'm having with my 2017 currently. This is a tremendous safety issue and could cost people their lives if not corrected soon!!

AIR BAGS

We were involved in an accident and the air bags did not deploy. We were turning left and another vehicle went through a red light and hit my 2017 Dodge RAM 1500. The other vehicle was traveling at a high rate and and collided with the front of our truck. I'm very shocked that the airbags did not deploy.

SUSPENSION:FRONT:STABILIZER BAR

The contact stated that upon shifting to neutral(N), the vehicle decelerated and stopped. The contact was able to drive to the residence at 15 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the Chrysler dealer however, no assistance was provided. The vehicle was then taken to a Chevrolet dealer, where an alignment was performed. The contact was later replaced with the track bar. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that assistance could not be provided because the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.

Rack and Pinion failed on me at 99k miles. I just got done with my workout and went to go start up the truck and the service power steering message came on with the power steering indicator light. That wheel would hardly move when I tried to move. I also decided to look under the truck and under the hood for any leaks and nothing and then soon realized after doing a quick google search that the 2013 and up models are electric power assist instead of hydraulic. The truck was towed next day to the dealer and they quoted $3600 to replace the rack and pinion.

SUSPENSION

Air suspension stopped working. Rear driver side drops with out noticed at anytime while parked or driving. My safety concern is that it will drop low enough while driving on the highway and cause for my truck to roll over. I have read about others having the same issues with the air suspension in the front, back or both. I was going to take it to the dealership but reading online from different souses and other that have the same problems the dealer had not fully fix the problem. Am not in the position to leave my vehicle in the services department of the dealership for then not to fix the problem.

The failures are typically caused by thermal expansion and contraction, which leads to the exhaust bolts snapping, particularly the rear ones. This results in exhaust leaks, increased emissions, and potential long-term engine damage. Despite the known and widespread nature of this defect, there has been no recall or extended warranty coverage from the manufacturer. Owners are frequently forced to cover expensive repairs (over $1,000) for what is clearly a design or material defect that occurs well below typical component lifespans. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this issue and consider initiating a recall or mandatory service campaign. A critical engine component failing at such low mileage, and more than once, should not be dismissed as normal wear and tear.

The diesel EGR Cooling System prematurely failed on a vehicle with low mileage and repaired at owner's expense. This defect allows pre-heated, vaporized coolant into the EGR system while the engine is running. In certain circumstances, this mixture interacts with other hydrocarbons and air in the system, potentially resulting in combustion within the intake manifold, which may lead to a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire may increase the risk of injury to occupants and persons outside of the vehicle, as well as property damage. Other than noting black residue in the coolant reservoir, there is no warning or notification to the owner that this dangerous condition had occurred, and that their safety may be at risk if not monitored. Previous model years had this same defect and are covered by Safety Recall VB1 / NHTSA 19V-757 Diesel EGR Cooler.

Was running errands in town, truck was on and off a few times over 2 hours. Started up leaving restaurant, I had no power steering. Completely gone, the (service power steering) light and warning popped up on my dash. The power steering has been intermediate loss for the past 5 days now. Works when it wants. Took a local shop to get the code read, lost communication to the EPS. Some times when I start the truck, I can drive 1-15 miles, and the power steering goes out suddenly.

Update to previously reported incident: Electric Power Steering unit would intermittently stop working - twice while driving and dash warning message to "Service Power Steering" appeared. The Ram series 2500 and heavier have a recall on these failing parts. The Ram 1500 was not included in the recall, but has the same components that regulate the braking system. The recall needs to include all failing components regardless of the vehicle in which they are installed.

Was driving my truck and everything was working fine then the power streering just shut off making it very difficult to control the vehicle then proceeded to go off and intermittently at different times after that now it has been completely gone and not came back. The rack and pinion would have to be replaced.

the failed component is the ABS control module. this is very common with these trucks. parts have been on back order for years. The result of this failed component is no ABS and no traction control which is a huge safety issue. the Engine fault code is C2200.

While driving down highway, the ABS light and traction lights came on and cruise control was disabled and brakes was catching as if applying the brakes. After stopping, tried to place the truck in 4WD to no avail. Reset the light by disconnecting the battery, but the warning light for traction came back on and then went off several times when there was no obvious reason.

Power Steering intermittently stops working upon starting the vehicle, trying to park the vehicle and twice during driving on the road. This condition makes it almost impossible to turn the steering wheel. If on a curved road it could cause the vehicle to leave the road. Problem was replicated by Dodge / Ram dealership with a dash warning to "Service the Power Steering Unit" but code and message disappeared after restarting the vehicle by the technician.

The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle regained power steering functionality. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering); however, the local dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 156,000.

WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK AND THE AIR SUSPENSION STOPPED WORKING. MY TRUCK IS ROUGHLY 2-3 INCHES FROM THE GROUND. BOTH OF MY FRONT TIRES ARE POINTING INWARD WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT FROM THE FRONT FROM THE WEIGHT OF THE MOTOR ON THE DEFLATED SUSPENSION. HITS SMALL BUMPS LIKE EXPLOSIONS. VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IF I KEEP DRIVING IT THE WAY IT IS THE FRONT BALL JOINT OR WHEEL BEARINGS ARE GOING TO COME OFF. THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS AND HAS NOT MADE ANY REASONABLE FIXES FOR IT. TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND SO FAR I AM IN $2000.00 WITHOUT BEING FIXED. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. IF YOU READ SOME OF THESE MESSAGE BOARDS ONLINE THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF THESE VEHICLES DOING THIS. I CAN NOT DRIVE ABOVE 45MPH WITHOUT THE FRONT END BOUNCING UP AND DOWN VIOLENTLY.

The ABS , traction control, and brake light came on in the dash. Had the vehicle checked and the code came up C2200-49, which indicates the ABS module. Found out that the 2019 models and newer have a recall on the same part. Went to and spoke to 2 different dealerships to try and get fixed or even to buy the part, but was told that this module has been an issue and back ordered for over 3 years. One of the dealerships told me that they aren't even entertaining the option of making an appointment. This is very frustrating and confusing, since my stopping ability could be compromised, especially since I tow a boat quite frequently.

While driving this truck at approximately 45 mph to 50mph the steering locked up and could not turn wheel either way with both hands . It then broke loose causing to truck to take a herd right turn . It does same thing if you are pulling to left when it frees up causing a quick left hand turn . This is very dangerous as total loss of steering occurred . Luckily there was room to stop . The steering then started working again then after consort distance it happened again . At this point I had a roll back haul it home . This could cause serious injury to me and or my family or someone coming in other lane . This is a totally bad design a vehicle should never be unable to be steered .

The brakes on my 2017 4WD Lonestar Ram 1500 have been malfunctioning intermittently over the past few months. When depressing the brake petal, three things happen at once; the brake petal pulsates up and down, the ABS and "Service Electronic Braking System" lights illuminate on the dash, and I can hear a loud, gurgling sound. While researching the issue online, I noticed that a recall for the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) responsible for failure of the braking system has been initiated for the 2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 models, but I believe that an inspection will reveal that the HCU in my 1500 is also faulty. This issue greatly impacts the vehicles ability to slow down or come to a sudden stop, as the brakes often lock when they are applied, and has almost resulted in several collisions.

SUSPENSION

The air ride system automatically inflates and deflates while driving, the truck tilts to one side because it only raises one side. It effects driving and the vehicle pulls to one side

My power steering randomly cuts out, I get a service power steering message and then eventually the power steering comes back. I took it to a local dealer it did not fail during the time they had it. There were no codes. I bought an obd reader and when the power steering failed, no codes. There are no indicators or obvious scenarios that can replicate the symptoms. It’s totally random. It does seem to happen more in cooler weather.

ABS module part no. 68295368AC has failed. Cannot replace due to Chrysler has engineers taking product off line. This has been a known defect for years and has not been recalled. My wife now drives a malfunctioning vehicle. Cost of repairs will be over $1000.00 There is no info of when this part will be available. UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Engine light came on with code. Was for 3 way coolant heater valve. Purchased part and replaced a few weeks ago. Engine light is back on . I see online chrysler had a recall for the same issue on the 2017 Dodge ram. I called NTSB to check on recall they said could be internal recall at chrysler. I tried to call Chrysler and I am put on hold. I would like Chrysler to authorize this to be fixed further at a local Chrysler/Dodge dealer in my area. Attached is the prior recall for the same issue that I am having now. There obviously is an issue that company is aware of and had a recall. Now it is happening to newer models an there should be a recall to be fixed free of charge. NTSB shows NO safety recall for this. There are MANY reports in forums on the internet of this exact problem. It is code P2681. "A 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 may have been subject to a recall regarding the "3-way coolant heater control valve" due to a potential issue with the valve's internal circuit board, which could cause it to stick in a position that prevents proper coolant flow to the heater core, impacting windshield defrosting capabilities; this recall is identified as NHTSA Campaign Number 13V-177."
