LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:TAILGATE:LATCH

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks equipped with an 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. Chrysler is also recalling all 2013-2014 and 2018 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks built before April 1, 2018 with a 6 or 8 foot bed and a power locking tailgate. On August 29, 2019 Chrysler expanded the recall to include an additional 693,128 model year 2013-2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks. The tailgate actuator limiter tab may fracture and cause the tailgate to unlatch and open while driving.

Risk: If the tailgate opens while the vehicle is being driven, cargo may fall out the vehicle and create a road hazard, increasing the risk of crash.

17V821000

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.

Risk: Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.

AIR BAGS

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Ram 1500, Ram 2500, and 2014-2016 Ram 3500 vehicles. Certain driving conditions, such as driving off-road or debris striking the vehicle may cause the roll rate sensor to trigger a fault within the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). If this fault occurs, the rollover side curtain air bag and the seat belt pretensioner will be disabled from deploying.

Risk: If the rollover side curtain air bags and seat belt pretensioners are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a crash that necessitates activation of these safety systems.

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks manufactured June 20, 2012, to January 26, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the side impact sensor calibrations may be overly sensitive, and as a result, the side air bag inflatable curtains and seat air bags may unexpectedly deploy and the seat belt pre-tensioners may activate.

Risk: Air bags that unexpectedly deploy increase the risk of a crash or injury.

2013 RAM 1500

1059444 vehicles affected

15V459000

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks manufactured January 18, 2011, to October 7, 2014, and equipped with the Electronic Vehicle Information Center option. The affected vehicles have a steering wheel wiring harness that may rub against the driver air bag module retainer spring.

Risk: This abrasion may result in an electrical short that could cause driver's frontal air bag to unexpectedly deploy. Inadvertent deployment of the air bag may increase the risk of injury and the possibility of a vehicle crash.

2013 RAM 1500

4194 vehicles affected

13V610000

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2013 Chrysler 300 AWD, Dodge Charger AWD, and Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 vehicles equipped with ZF all wheel drive ("AWD") 8HP45 transmissions. In the affected vehicles, the transmission output shaft may fracture.

Risk: The transmission output shaft fracture could result in a loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park'.

2013 RAM 1500

17411 vehicles affected

13V237000

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNAL

Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2013 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks manufactured September 9, 2012, through March 5, 2013 and equipped with optional premium tail lamps. In the affected vehicles, the turn signal indicator may not flash at a double rate to give a notification to the driver of a turn signal malfunction. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."

Risk: Without a warning that the turn signal is malfunctioning, the driver would continue to use the vehicle, unaware that other drivers on the road are not being notified that the vehicle is turning, increasing the risk of a crash.

I've had no previous problems with this but I just started my truck and a warning light came on saying service power steering and when I tried to turn the steering wheel, I had no power steering. I checked the fuses and they are good.

STEERING

The power steering rack failed on my 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 with only 36,000 miles. It is at the shop right now, waiting for the new power steering rack to come in. The power steering completely failed, as I was driving home from an appointment...making the truck extremely difficult to steer. The failure was diagnosed and confirmed by a service center (Golden Auto)They stated the entire power steering rack must be replaced at a cost of approximately $4,100. The vehicle has been inspected by an independent service center. The manufacturer has not yet inspected it. The warning light came on AFTER the power steering failed. There was absolutely no warning/symptoms of any kind before it happened.

STEERING

Borrowing this truck from my father. I turned the key off a week ago when everything was working fine. When I went to start it today it gave me a power steering failure warning and the steering wheel was impossible to turn. From what I understand, this is a common problem with this year model and line of Rams. I am glad this happened while I was parked. Otherwise it could have been disastrous for me. As it is. I am looking at a very expensive repair on a loader vehicle.

STEERING

The power steering on my truck randomly went out this week, after working forever without any kind of issues. After doing a bunch of research and looking into the issue, I have tried to troubleshoot this in every way possible. I've looked at electrical, the belt inside the Electric Power Steering unit, checked connections and fuses, and I've come to the conclusion that these units are faulty, based on many other anecdotes of this happening, and even recalls from RAM. Except those recalls don't include my year of vehicle for some reason. Dodge/Ram dealers want $4500 to replace this part (which is extremely steep for such a small thing) and I currently don't have the means to pay for it. I have also seen that in September of 2024, a class action lawsuit was filed against Stellantis for this exact reason. So I want to file this complaint in hopes that Ram/Dodge/Stellantis will issue a recall.

STEERING

Power steering assist failed while driving. Can still be steered manually by force, but no electronic assist. Makes the vehicle unsafe to drive, and thankfully I was able to get safely off the road. When I looked into this, it’s a known issue with rams, and hasn’t been addressed in my year model, 2013. I can’t understand how a safety risk like this is going unaddressed. I was quoted 2 thousand plus dollars by the dealership to fix.

Driving truck over RR tracks in city that were not a large bump and my front fuel tank strap came loose. I looked under truck and saw strap was corroded but not broken. The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while making a left turn, the steering wheel became extremely firm. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the tie rod and the front brakes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact believed that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V287000 (Electronic Stability Control (ESC). The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

STEERING

While driving on the freeway around 70 mph, the steering on my 2013 Ram 1500 2WD suddenly became extremely stiff and hard to turn. The red steering wheel warning light came on, and I nearly lost control. I’ve already confirmed that the battery, grounds, fuses, and alternator are all good, and this is clearly an EPS (Electric Power Steering) failure. This is a major safety concern — had there been a turn or obstacle, I could’ve crashed. I’ve found other reports online from other Ram 1500 owners with similar issues involving the EPS rack and module. Dodge dealers told me they couldn’t help or open a STAR case unless I contacted Dodge corporate. I believe this is a defect that should be investigated for recall or at least considered for a safety-related goodwill repair, especially since this failure occurred at highway speed. The fact that the entire steering system can lock or fail without warning is dangerous and unacceptable.

SERVICE BRAKES

Front brakes: on July 30 2025 the right front brakes caused the truck to pull and shimmy to the right at speed. Touch the brake and it pulled hard to the right so bad you had to turn the steering wheel to about the ten o’clock position to go straight then when letting off the brakes you had to be quick to turn the other way. Seems the brakes are not releasing after use and over heating, I had a laser temp over *450 in the wheel and hub area. This happened last year to the driver’s side and I had to replace the brake assembly on that side. Maybe the tolerances in each piston is to close so when hot they stick and over heat. This is on a truck with 17K miles. On forum’s people suggest that the brake lines are collapsing which might be the issue. This model truck has the air ride suspension so the overheating could cause a air bladder to blow or a bearing to degrease with a wheel lock up at speed. Thanks,,

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while coasting to an idle stop at a red light, the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the ABS module had failed. The dealer still had not received the part due to the part being on back order. After having the vehicle diagnosed while driving approximately 75 mph, and coming to slowed traffic, the contact attempted to decelerate. Suddenly, another vehicle cut in front of them, and the contact slammed the brake pedal down. The left front tire seized, causing the vehicle to spin counterclockwise. The left front side of the truck hit a nearby guardrail. The vehicle continued to spin, causing damage to the front-end and rear-end. The air bag did not deploy. The contact was able to maneuver the vehicle to safety. The contact was able to continue driving after restarting the vehicle at their home. There were no injuries. No medical attention was needed. No police report was filed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer after the incident occurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

STEERING

I am experiencing intermittent and unexpected loss of power steering assist in my 2013 RAM 1500. The issue typically happens suddenly after while driving at low speeds, high speed or during turns, and it makes the vehicle very difficult to steer safely, locked up, especially during tight maneuvers or in parking situations. There are warning light of power steering appears for a second and go away when this happens. The steering suddenly becomes extremely stiff, requiring significant force to turn the wheel. This raises serious safety concerns for both me and other drivers. I have researched the issue and found that similar problems were part of a prior recall (NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077), but my VIN does not currently show any open recalls. I believe this may be part of the same defect and could affect more vehicles than originally recalled. Request: Please investigate this issue for a possible expanded recall or manufacturer remedy. This defect poses a risk of crash and injury due to the sudden loss of steering control.

My wife was able to bring the car to the edge of the road without crash. The vehicle was then removed to my residence location. The vehicle power steering is totally in operative. A warning light displays on the dash. There appears to be some type of issue with Dodge trucks, electronic power steering for multiple years of manufacturer. Was very lucky that my wife was not injured in this crash. This is a tremendous safety issue, and if affects multiple years should be recalled.

Power steering failed while making a turn. The vehicle oversteered running into a curb. This scraped the wheel and impacted the tire braking the plastic inner wheel well. If the steering fails while turning the wheel the vehicle at slower speeds the vehicle is very hard to control and will force you out of intended trajectory. There are no warnings or messages. There are no fluid leaks. I have researched to find this is a common issue with this vehicle. I do not feel safe driving it to a mechanic. I don't want to pay for repair as this is obviously a know failure which could reoccur.

There is various recalls for these problems with same make and years model trucks, but mine is not included. STEERING

While operating my 2013 Ram 1500 at approximately 10 MPH, I experienced a sudden and complete loss of power steering without warning. The incident occurred while traveling on a public roadway. There were no dashboard warning lights, alerts, or noises leading up to the failure. The steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn, requiring significant physical effort to maintain control of the vehicle. The failure appears to have occurred in the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. This sudden loss of power steering posed a serious safety hazard to both myself and other road users. The unexpected loss of steering assist greatly increased the difficulty of maneuvering the vehicle, especially during turns or emergency avoidance. The vehicle was nearly impossible to steer with one hand and could have led to a crash if more evasive action had been needed. Had this occurred at higher speeds or in heavy traffic, the outcome could have been much more severe. The failure was diagnosed as an EPS (Electric Power Steering) internal failure, confirmed by a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) pulled during inspection at a certified repair facility. The code specifically indicated a malfunction within the EPS module itself. The problem was confirmed by an independent service center, where technicians scanned the vehicle and identified a diagnostic code confirming an internal EPS failure. At this time, the EPS system has not been repaired pending further action.

Subject: Power Steering Failure – Recall Concern on 2013 Ram 1500 Dear [Ram Customer Care / NHTSA / Dealership Representative], I am writing to formally express my concern regarding a serious safety issue I experienced with my 2013 Ram 1500, which has only 140,000 miles. While driving, I suddenly lost total power steering functionality. Fortunately, I was able to safely bring the vehicle to Piedmont Dodge in Anderson, SC. After paying a $185 diagnostic fee, I was informed that the steering rack and pinion had failed and would require full replacement. I was also told that the necessary part is currently on back order with no estimated time of arrival, which leaves me without a working vehicle and no clear resolution. What is especially troubling is that I’ve learned Ram issued recalls for steering issues on 2013–2016 Ram 1500 models—recall campaigns that clearly acknowledge this as a known and recurring problem. However, for reasons unclear to me, my specific VIN does not fall under the existing recall despite showing the same symptoms as vehicles that do. Given the nature of the failure—complete loss of power steering while driving—and the significant cost of repairs quoted to me (over $2,700 for parts and labor), I am requesting a thorough review of my vehicle's eligibility under the known recall campaign or warranty support. I strongly believe this issue reflects a broader systemic defect, not isolated wear and tear. I respectfully ask that Ram take responsibility for this critical safety concern and assist in resolving the issue either through recall expansion, goodwill repair assistance, or another appropriate remedy. I am eager to continue being a loyal Ram owner but believe this matter requires immediate attention and action. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response. Out of nowhere could not turn the steering wheel. It was really stiff. I had my mechanic come take a look and after doing a diagnostic test it was the EPS (electric power system). After looking into it we noticed a recall for the EPS for 2013-2019 Dodge rams which is what we have. We took it to a dodge dealership who also found that out but is saying we are not part of the recall just because our VIN number is not associated to the recall. We could have died with 4 kids in the car and this is what we were told that it would cost a more than 5k to fix. The issue is the same as the recall. There was no warning lamps or messages to let us know something was wrong. Again could have died cause we could not turn the wheel. Our car should be part of this recall and I have seen others complaining about the same issue in forums. We are already on low income and top it off have only one car this has put a real burden on our family. Please acknowledge that this is the same recall and our VIN should be included and repaired without cost.

I assumed at that time that maybe the steering wheel lock got hung up. When we got home and went to use the vehicle again the same thing happened except this time it didn’t correct itself and the flashing “Service Power Steering” light came on. The vehicle has not been driven since. After researching this situation I learned that this is a known issue that has not been resolved and I believe this to be a safety impacting defect. (1) Electronic Power Steering (EPS) failure. Vehicle is available for inspection. (2) Loss of vehicle control had the failure occurred on the open road could have led to a crash (3) We have not towed the vehicle to the dealership yet as we will be out of town for a couple of weeks (4) Vehicle has not been inspected by any party at this time (5) There were no warning lamps prior to this failure. After the second failure there is now a blinking “Service Power Steering” message but no fault codes Supplemental: we are the original owners of this vehicle and all maintenance to include known recalls have been kept up-to-date and the vehicle has been well maintained.

The front gas tank strap pulled out of its slot in the frame. The tank hung appx 4” off the ground, hitting the ground on the frost heaves. I was alerted by the driver behind me. Had I not been alerted, I may have punctured or wore a hole in the tank risking a fire from leaking fuel. I used ratchet straps to secure the tank. I had appx 10 miles on the vehicle since fill up. I contacted the local Dodge dealer in Berlin Vt on 3-7-2025 and am waiting for reply.

My 2013 ram 1500 has an electronic power steering system. That unit has completely failed and the steering is locked up. It can't be turned. I was backing out of my driveway when it happened. If I had been going down the road at 60mph someone would have been killed. The truck is unsafe and can't be driven. There is a warning lamp for a power steering issue. Dealer says I have to buy a new steering rack. And that part has been discontinued.

SERVICE BRAKES

Faulty abs control modules. Widespread problem after doing some research. Abs control module fails and sets off abs and traction control lights on the dash. Hasn't caused any incidents yet. But losing anti lock brakes could potentially cause a lock up and cause an incident in the future. Could be very problematic during winter conditions.

STEERING

Upon starting the RAM 1500 on or about May 1, 2024, the electric power steering rack and pinion failed to operate. There was no steering assistance at all and it was extremely difficult to turn the steering wheel. The truck was not safely drivable. I observed a check engine light illuminated so I drove it carefully to a shop very close to my residence. The code indicated a failed power steering system but I do not recall the specific code. I contacted my local dealer for assistance. They indicated that since the vehicle was older than 10 yrs old, they did not offer any replacement steering racks or offer any service to the rack. They offered no alternative solution. I did some research, shopped around, and purchased a reconditioned rack and pinion for nearly $2,000. I installed the reconditioned electric rack and pinion assembly myself and power steering control returned as before. Since May 2024, the reconditioned power steering system has been functioning normally. The original rack and pinion is not covered under the limited previous recall. It's barcode reads - P68079506AG and TIC1393C5057 if this is helpful. I have carefully inspected the boots and seals of the unit and all appear very good ruling out any likelihood of water intrusion. Given my electrical engineering background and curiosity, I removed the cover from the circuit board and it does not show any visual damage. It's clean and dry inside. I purchased the truck brand new and it has been garage kept since purchase. It only had approximately 50,000 miles on it when it failed, therefore I am confident that there's a manufacturer defect or long term reliability issue with the electronic circuit design or components used in it that needs to be addressed.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Electric Power Steering (EPS) system has completely failed, resulting in loss of power steering assistance. The system is still installed in the vehicle and can be made available for inspection upon request by the manufacturer, dealer, or regulatory body. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The failure of the power steering system makes the vehicle extremely difficult to control, especially at low speeds or in emergency situations. This increases the risk of crashes, particularly in tight turns, intersections, and highway merging scenarios. I have experienced a near-misses and difficulty maneuvering the vehicle after power steering failure. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Many Ram 1500 owners have reported the issue to dealerships and independent repair shops, some of whom have confirmed that the EPS system fails intermittently or completely stops functioning. Some dealers have replaced the EPS unit, while others have indicated that no official recall has been issued and repairs are at the owner’s expense. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others?

My 2013 Ram 1500 has had issues with the horn not working when the middle of the steering wheel is pushed but sounds when the key fob is used to lock doors. The EVIC control on the steering wheel would also not work. This started in 2018 where the problem was intermittent. This was part of recall R36 where the rubbing of the steering wheel harness on the retainer springs could cause an electrical short and or inadvertent air bag deployment. I took my vehicle to Bill Volz WestchesterDodge, Cortland Manor, NY for the recall on 10-19-15 with 18,205 miles. I feel the work wasn’t done properly because the problem reoccurred in less than 3 years and about 6,000 miles later. The horn and EVIC has not worked in over 7 months. My concern is that I could be driving on a major interstate when my vehicle airbag deploys causing a crash. I contacted Chrysler customer service on 1-13-2025 and spoke to a representative. That person called me back on 1-14-2025 and stated that he referred my case #[XXX] , to a specialist who would contact me in 2-3 business days.
