Recalls
  • Adaptive lift restraint belt. Recall 10V117000 affects 280 vehicles. The restraint belt on Ricon public use lifts may appear latched without full engagement, allowing lift operation with an occupant unsecured. This poses injury risks. Prevost provides a warning decal and a DVD training aid as the remedy.
  • Accelerator pedal spring breakage. Recall 13V532000 involves 81 vehicles. Springs returning the accelerator pedal to idle may break, causing unintended acceleration and increasing crash risk. Dealers replace the accelerator pedals free of charge.
  • Throttle software malfunction. Recall 13V039000 covers 1,033 vehicles. Vehicles may enter a software mode fixing the throttle signal at 1700 RPM regardless of pedal input, risking loss of control. Dealers will remedy affected coaches at no cost.
  • Fuel line abrasion risk. Recall 15V122000 affects 455 vehicles. Missing fuel line locating clips may allow fuel lines to rub against coolant hoses, leading to fuel leaks and fire hazards. Dealers inspect and replace fuel lines as needed and secure them properly.
  • Fuel tank cradle mounting. Recall 17V618000 impacts 3,163 vehicles. Gaps in fuel tank cradle supports can cause bolts to loosen, risking fuel tank detachment and vehicle stalling. Dealers correct the mounting free of charge.

Owners with repeated repairs or unresolved safety recall issues might consider consulting their state’s lemon law provisions for potential remedies related to these defects.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2008-2018 H3-41, H3-45, H3-45 VIP, X3-45, X3-45 VIP, X3-45 VIP Entertainer, and XL2 motor coaches. The fuel tank cradle supports may have gaps at the points where the cradle connects to the coach frame, which can allow the attachment bolts to loosen and fail causing the fuel tank to fall from the vehicle.

Risk: If the fuel tank separates from the vehicle, it could be a road hazard and the vehicle would stall. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL

Prevost Cars, Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain model year 2007-2012 XLII, X3-45, H3-41, H3-45, and H3-45 VIP vehicles manufactured July 5, 2007, to May 11, 2012. The affected vehicles may be missing a fuel line locating clip, allowing the fuel line to rub against the braided coolant hose.

Risk: The fuel line rubbing may result in abrasion and a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL

Prevost is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 X3-45, H3-41 and H3-45 coaches, model year 2011-2013 H3-45 VIP coaches, model year 2012-2013 X3-45 VIP coaches, and model year 2009-2013 XLII-45 Entertainer coaches manufactured from May 16, 2007, through March 14, 2013 and equipped with Volvo engines. Certain conditions may cause the affected coaches to go into a software mode that would result in the throttle signal being fixed at 1700rpms regardless of throttle pedal input from the driver.

Risk: Uncontrollable throttle position may lead to a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The mechanical springs used to return the accelerator pedal to idle after the driver lifts their foot off the pedal may break.

Risk: If the springs break, the pedal may not return to idle once the driver lifts their foot off the pedal. This unintended acceleration increases the risk of a crash.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY

PREVOST HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 MOTOR COACHES FITTED WITH RICON PUBLIC USE LIFTS. THE RESTRAINT BELT ON THESE LIFTS WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE LIFT FROM MOVING, UNLESS THE TONGUE OF THE BELT IS FULLY ENGAGED AND LATCHED IN THE BUCKLE. RICON HAS DISCOVERED, HOWEVER, THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE OPERATOR TO INSERT THE BELT TONGUE INTO THE BUCKLE WITHOUT FULLY ENGAGING THE LATCHING MECHANISM. IN THIS CASE, THE RESTRAINT BELT WOULD APPEAR TO BE LATCHED, AND THE OPERATOR COULD RUN THE LIFT. IF THE RESTRAINT BELT TONGUE IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED INTO THE RESTRAINT BELT BUCKLE, AND LATCHED, THE LIFT MAY OPERATE WITH AN OCCUPANT ON THE PLATFORM.

Risk: THE USER OF THE LIFT COULD BE INJURED SHOULD THE LIFT MOVE WITHOUT THE RESTRAINT BELT PROPERLY BUCKLED.
