2021 PORSCHE CAYENNE Complaints and Recall Information

The 2021 PORSCHE CAYENNE has 2 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report the dashboard leather separating, which may interfere with airbag deployment. Some complain about the high cost of replacing the dashboard outside of warranty.

Common Issues
  • Dashboard leather separation. Leather is peeling from the dashboard surface, potentially obstructing airbag deployment during an accident. Replacement costs outside warranty can reach $10,000.

There are 4 recalls affecting different systems including suspension, steering, airbag calibration, and seat components. The recalls address safety risks such as loss of vehicle control and airbag failure. Repairs are performed free of charge by dealers.

Recalls
  • Rear axle lock nut. (NHTSA 21V271000) About 1,568 vehicles are affected by a lock nut that may break due to stress corrosion. A broken nut can misalign the rear axle causing loss of control and increasing crash risk. Dealers replace the lock nuts free of charge. The recall began June 18, 2021.
  • Steering column screw. (NHTSA 21V493000) A screw connecting the steering column to the steering box may fail on 27 vehicles. Failure could detach the steering column resulting in loss of control and increased crash risk. Dealers install a new screw free of charge. Owner letters were sent August 24, 2021.
  • Passenger seat heating element. (NHTSA 21V318000) On 136 vehicles, the passenger seat back heating element was missing. This affects the Occupant Classification System calibration, potentially causing the front passenger airbag to fail to deploy and increase injury risk. Dealers install the heating element free of charge. Notification letters were mailed June 25, 2021.
  • Passenger seat components. (NHTSA 21V318000) The recall also covers the passenger seat for proper installation to ensure correct airbag system calibration on the same 136 vehicles. Failure to fix may cause airbag non-deployment. Repairs are free and include adding the heating element. Letters mailed June 25, 2021.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs related to the dashboard or those affected by these recalls involving key safety systems may have rights under their state lemon laws. Consulting a consumer protection attorney could provide guidance on next steps.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Dashboard leather is separating and was told this could affect the airbag deployment in the case of an accident. Porsche dealership is asking 10k outside of warranty to replace the dash. If it was just cosmetic I could deal with it, but now that it is a safety concern for my passenger I feel forced to overspend. Even a reduced amount would help but a whole dash replacement sounds excessive to make sure the leather is not obstructing the airbag.
