2013 PORSCHE CAYENNE Complaints and Recall Information

The 2013 PORSCHE CAYENNE has 6 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report issues with the leather dashboard cover detaching and shrinking, especially around the airbag areas. There are repeated concerns that these defects could interfere with airbag deployment and pose safety hazards.

Common Issues
  • Leather dashboard detachment. Multiple reports indicate the leather cover is separating from the dashboard, causing staples to pull up.
  • Airbag concealment defect. Shrinkage and misalignment of the leather dashboard prevent it from properly covering the driver and passenger airbag doors.
  • Potential airbag malfunction. Owners express concern that the detaching dashboard leather may prevent airbags from deploying correctly or at all during an accident.
  • Costly repairs. Porsche reportedly denies warranty coverage and charges owners thousands of dollars for dashboard replacements related to this issue.

There are 5 recalls for the 2013 Porsche Cayenne affecting different vehicle systems. These recalls address electrical system faults, lighting adjustments, and brake pedal assembly concerns among others.

Recalls
  • Instrument cluster fuel display (NHTSA 13V506000). Affects 207 vehicles manufactured May 27 to July 10, 2013. The instrument cluster may show a higher fuel range and fuel gauge level than actual, causing the vehicle to unexpectedly run out of fuel and stall. Dealers update the instrument cluster software free of charge. Notification began December 5, 2013.
  • Headlight adjustment caps (NHTSA 22V656000). Covers 222,858 vehicles across multiple Porsche models including 2013 Cayenne. Missing caps on low-beam headlight adjustment screws allow improper headlight aiming, risking poor road illumination or glare to oncoming traffic. Dealers inspect headlights and install missing caps at no cost. Letters were mailed October 28, 2022.
  • Brake pedal pivot pin circlip (NHTSA 16V169000). Impacts 88,300 vehicles from 2011 to 2016 Cayenne models. A missing circlip on the brake pedal pivot pin can allow the pedal to dislodge, preventing brake application and increasing crash risk. Dealers inspect and install missing circlips free of charge. Recall started July 8, 2016.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs on dashboard defects or unresolved recall issues affecting airbags and braking may have rights under their state lemon law. Those encountering ongoing safety concerns should consider consulting legal resources for guidance.

The factory leather dashboard has detached/ungluded in places both on the driver and passenger side. Now the dashboard cover in the passenger area does not properly line up and has bubbled up on top of the passenger air bag door. There is a high possibility that this defect will prevent the passenger air bag from properly functioning or not function at all during an accident. Several Cayenne owners have reported this problem to Porsche USA however they will only replace at the owner's request and owners expense which is in the thousands of dollars. Porsche USA said that this is not a recall item therefore they will not pay for the repair.
