Recalls
  • Hose tray latch defect. NHTSA Recall 10V300000 affects 25 vehicles. Drop-down fire hose trays mounted under the front bumper may have latches that open unexpectedly while driving. This can cause the hose to drop on the roadway, risking injury and distraction. Free replacement of the latch and hose box is provided.
  • Rear disc brake interference. Recall 10V317000 involves 45 vehicles with Meritor Wabco EX225 rear disc brakes interfering with tire chain brackets. This restricts caliper movement, potentially reducing braking performance and risking crashes. Dealers will install new tire chain brackets at no cost.
  • Engine shutdown risk. Recall 10V195000 covers 827 vehicles with Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines that may shut down unexpectedly due to diesel particulate filter over temperature. This risks emergency operation failure. Reprogramming of engine control logic to prevent shutdown and alert the driver is performed free of charge.
  • Rear brake slack adjuster interference. Recall 10V269000 affects 14 vehicles where rear brake slack adjusters may contact automatic tire chain brackets. This can compromise braking capability and risk crashes. New tire chain brackets will be installed free of charge.
  • Incorrect tire and wheel size. Recall 11V230000 includes 5 vehicles with tires on incompatible wider wheels, risking tire bead separation and failure. Dealers will replace the front wheels and tires with proper sizes at no cost.
  • Electronic stability control module malfunction. Recall 11V527000 affects 724 vehicles. Under certain conditions, the ESC system may wrongly detect oversteering and apply braking, causing deviation from the intended path and increasing crash risk. The ESC module will be replaced free of charge.
  • Door handle spring faults. Recall 13V062000 involves 1,275 vehicles where inner door handle springs may cause doors to open inadvertently while in motion, risking occupant falls. Dealers replace inner door handles at no cost.
  • Outer door handle spring weakness. Recall 13V214000 affects 2,006 vehicles. Outer door handle springs may fail to prevent unintended door opening during impacts, potentially increasing injury risks. Spring replacements are provided free of charge.
  • Trailer lighting wiring defect. Recall 13V518000 covers 349 vehicles where trailer connector wiring causes stop signals to override turn signals, disabling trailer turn lights. This situation can confuse other drivers and raise crash risk. Dealers will install a new electrical harness free of charge.
  • Front lower control arm cracking. Recall 14V660000 includes 135 vehicles with TAK-4 suspensions having front lower control arms prone to cracking. Fracture can cause wheel separation and crash risk. Inspections and replacements are done free of charge.
  • Aerial device unexpected rotation. Recall 19V022000 affects 994 vehicles where the aerial device may rotate unexpectedly during ladder extension, risking contact with objects and injury. Dealers will reprogram the aerial control module at no charge.
  • Rear steer axle shaft defects. Recall 17V348000 impacts 225 vehicles with improperly heat treated rear steer axle shafts. Shaft breakage can disable the vehicle and cause crashes. Replacement of axle shafts is provided free of charge.
  • Aerial device limited retraction bracket detachment. Recall 18V463000 involves 17 vehicles where the bracket on the aerial device may detach and fall, posing a hazard to people below. Additional mounting hardware installation is performed free of charge.

Owners dealing with multiple recalls affecting safety systems or unresolved repair issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting with qualified legal counsel can help clarify those rights.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)

PIERCE MANUFACTURING (PIERCE) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007-2011 ARROW XTAND VELOCITY, MODEL YEAR 2008-2011 CUSTOM CONTENDER, IMPEL, QUANTUM AND MODEL YEAR 2009-2011 SABER EMERGENCY TRUCKS, EQUIPPED WITH MERITOR WABCO ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MODULES, MANUFACTURED FROM DECEMBER 19, 2007, THROUGH OCTOBER 7, 2011. UNDER CERTAIN ROAD AND DRIVING CONDITIONS, VEHICLE BODY ROLL AND ROAD INCLINATION CHARACTERISTICS MAY ADVERSELY AFFECT THE SLIP ANGLE CALCULATION OF THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) SYSTEM. THIS MIGHT CAUSE THE ESC TO PERCEIVE AN OVER STEERING SITUATION AND THEREFORE APPLY THE OUTER WHEEL BRAKE ON THE FRONT AXLE UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS PERCEIVED TO BE STABLE.

Risk: IF THE DRIVER IS SLOW TO REACT DURING THIS ESC INTERVENTION, THE VEHICLE MAY DEVIATE FROM THE INTENDED LINE OF TRAVEL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
