Recalls- Front bumper hose tray latch. Recall 10V300000 affects 25 vehicles. The latch on drop-down fire hose trays may open unexpectedly while driving, causing the hose to fall onto the roadway. This creates a risk of injury and potential accidents. The remedy involves installing a redesigned latch and hose box free of charge, starting October 4, 2010.
- Engine shutdown risk. Recall 10V195000 involves 827 vehicles with Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines. The engine may shut down suddenly when a diesel particulate filter overheats, which could hinder emergency operations. The fix reprograms engine control logic to signal a malfunction without engine shutdown. The recall started May 28, 2010.
- Steering gear bracket fracture. Recall 10V423000 includes 2,652 vehicles. The steering gear bracket can fracture and detach, leading to total loss of steering control and crash risk. Owners must inspect the bracket before trips. Dealers will replace the mounting bracket free of charge beginning January 31, 2011.
- Accelerator pedal sticking. Recall 11V255000 covers 5,022 vehicles. The electronic accelerator pedal arm may bend after repeated strong use, causing it to stick in full throttle position. This may cause loss of vehicle control. Dealers will install a redesigned pedal arm starting May 9, 2011, at no charge.
- Cab tilt cylinder mount failure. Recall 13V525000 affects 3,115 vehicles. Fatigue of cab tilt mounts can cause the cab to fall until a safety catch stops it, posing risk of injury to anyone in the cab’s path. Dealers will add safety signs advising operators to stay clear during cab tilting, starting January 6, 2014.
- Lower control arm ball joint contamination. Recall 15V615000 involves 910 vehicles. Tears in protective boots allow contamination, which causes premature ball joint failure and possible wheel detachment, increasing crash risk. Dealers will inspect and replace worn ball joints free of charge. The recall began December 10, 2015.
- Upper control arm ball joint contamination. Recall 15V615000 also covers upper ball joints on the same 910 vehicles referenced above. The defect and remedy mirror those of the lower ball joints with inspection and free replacements as needed starting December 10, 2015.
Owners dealing with repeated safety defects or unresolved recall repairs on the 2006 PIERCE LANCE may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney can help determine eligibility for protection based on repair history and defect severity.

AFTER REPEATED USE WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ARM MAY BEND AND CAUSE THE PEDAL TO MOVE CLOSER TO THE FLOOR. IF THE PEDAL ARM BENDS FAR ENOUGH, THE PEDAL MAY CONTACT THE CAB FLOOR WITHOUT WARNING AND STICK IN THE FULL THROTTLE POSITION.
