2010 PIERCE IMPEL Complaints and Recall Information
The 2010 PIERCE IMPEL has 0 complaints and 10 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to safety components including doors and braking systems based on recall data.
The vehicle is subject to multiple recalls affecting systems such as brakes, doors, electrical wiring, suspension, and aerial device controls. These recalls address potential safety risks involving unintended door openings, braking interference, and control arm failures among other concerns.
- Rear disc brakes interference. The Meritor Wabco EX225 rear disc brake caliper may get restricted by OnSpot automatic tire chain brackets, reducing braking performance without warning which could lead to a crash (NHTSA recall 10V317000, 45 vehicles affected). Dealers replace tire chain brackets to ensure full caliper movement.
- SCBA compartment door latch defect. The door latch on the dual SCBA cylinder storage compartment may be positioned incorrectly allowing the door to open unintentionally, risking cylinder loss and increasing crash or injury hazards (NHTSA recall 11V551000, 59 vehicles affected). Dealers add a reinforcement plate to door latches.
- Inner door handle springs failure. Springs inside inner door handles may allow door opening while in motion, risking occupants falling out and injury (NHTSA recall 13V062000, 1275 vehicles affected). Replacement handles with stiffer springs are provided.
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction. Under certain driving conditions, the ESC may incorrectly apply front axle brakes causing deviation from the intended travel line and increasing crash risk (NHTSA recall 11V527000, 724 vehicles affected). Control modules are replaced free of charge.
- Outer door handle springs insufficient stiffness. Weak springs in outer door handles may allow inadvertent door opening during impacts, failing to contain personnel or equipment and increasing injury risk (NHTSA recall 13V214000, 2006 vehicles affected). Dealers replace springs with stiffer ones.
- Trailer turn signal wiring defect. Trailer connector circuit wiring causes stop signals to override turn signals, preventing trailer turn indication and potentially confusing other drivers (NHTSA recall 13V518000, 349 vehicles affected). Electrical harnesses are installed to correct the issue.
- Front lower control arm cracks. The TAK-4 front independent suspension’s lower control arms may crack and fracture, risking wheel separation and crash (NHTSA recall 14V660000, 135 vehicles affected). Inspections and replacements are performed as needed.
- Aerial device unexpected rotation. The aerial device may unexpectedly rotate right during ladder extension, increasing risk of contact with objects and injury (NHTSA recall 19V022000, 994 vehicles affected). Dealers reprogram the aerial control module.
- Limited retraction bracket detachment. The 21-inch or 28-inch limited retraction bracket on 75ft aerial devices may detach and fall, posing a strike hazard to persons below (NHTSA recall 18V463000, 17 vehicles affected). Additional mounting hardware is installed.

STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR
Pierce Manufacturing Inc. (Pierce) is recalling certain model year 2007-2013 Velocity, Impel, and Dash CF emergency vehicles manufactured June 6, 2007, through May 31, 2013. The springs in the outer door handles are not of sufficient stiffness to prevent inadvertent door opening in certain impacts. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."
Risk: In the event of a crash, the weak springs may allow the door to open and possibly fail to contain emergency personnel or equipment, increasing the risk of injury.
