2009 PIERCE IMPEL Complaints and Recall Information

The 2009 PIERCE IMPEL has 0 complaints and 11 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues involving structural components such as body doors and bumpers, braking systems, and electrical components related to stability and lighting. Several recalls address safety-critical systems on these fire trucks.

There are 11 recalls affecting various systems including body structure, brakes, electrical stability control, door latches, lighting, suspension components, and software controlling aerial devices. The recalls cover a range of model years around 2009 and include measures to prevent sudden deployment of equipment, inadvertent door openings, brake interference, and unexpected aerial device movement.

  • Body bumper latch. Certain models manufactured through March 2009 may have hose trays mounted under the front bumper with latches that can accidentally open in motion, causing fire hoses to drop on the roadway and potentially distract drivers. (Recall 10V300000, 25 vehicles affected)
  • Brake caliper interference. Rear disc brake calipers may interfere with automatic tire chain brackets, restricting caliper movement and reducing braking performance without warning. (Recall 10V317000, 45 vehicles affected)
  • SCBA compartment door latch. On some models, the SCBA cylinder storage compartment door latch may be incorrectly oriented causing the door to open while driving, risking cylinders falling onto the road. (Recall 11V551000, 59 vehicles affected)
  • Electronic stability control error. ESC modules may misinterpret road conditions, applying unintended front axle wheel braking which could cause the vehicle to deviate from its intended path and increase crash risk. (Recall 11V527000, 724 vehicles affected)
  • Inner door handle spring. Springs in inner door handles may allow doors to open inadvertently while the vehicle is in motion, increasing fall and injury risk. (Recall 13V062000, 1275 vehicles affected)
  • Outer door handle spring. Weak springs in outer door handles may cause doors to open during impacts, failing to contain personnel or equipment and increasing injury risk. (Recall 13V214000, 2006 vehicles affected)
  • Trailer connector wiring. Stop signals override trailer turn signals preventing turn indication when braking, increasing risk of confusion and crashes. (Recall 13V518000, 349 vehicles affected)
  • Front lower control arm. These control arms may crack and fracture, risking wheel separation and increasing crash risk. (Recall 14V660000, 135 vehicles affected)
  • Aerial device rotation software. The aerial ladder may unexpectedly rotate during extension, potentially striking objects and causing injury. (Recall 19V022000, 994 vehicles affected)
  • Aerial limited retraction bracket. The bracket on 75 foot aerial devices may detach and fall, risking injury to people below. (Recall 18V463000, 17 vehicles affected)

Owners with repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues related to safety defects should consider consulting their state lemon law resources to understand their rights and options.
