Recalls
  • Steering gear bracket. NHTSA recall 10V423000 affects 2,652 vehicles due to possible steering gear bracket fracture that may cause the steering gear to detach, resulting in loss of steering control and a crash risk. Dealers will install a new mounting bracket free of charge. Vehicle owners are instructed to inspect the bracket prior to each trip.
  • Accelerator pedal arm. Recall 11V255000 covers 5,022 units where the accelerator pedal arm may bend after repeated heavy use, causing the pedal to stick to the floor and stay in full throttle position. Dealers will replace the arm with a redesigned part free of charge to reduce crash risk.
  • Fuel tank straps. Recall 11V384000 involves 6,803 vehicles with fuel tank straps that may corrode from winter chemicals, leading to strap fracture and fuel tank detachment. This creates a risk of stalling, fuel spills, and slippery road conditions. Dealers inspect and replace straps if under 10 years old; older trucks may purchase replacements but no free remedy is offered.
  • Cab tilt cylinder mounts. Recall 13V525000 affects 3,115 units with cab tilt mounts that may fatigue and fail, allowing the cab to fall until the safety catch activates. This poses a risk of injury if a person is in the cab’s path. Dealers add safety signs advising operators to stay clear during cab tilting.
  • Rear steer axle shafts. Recall 17V348000 covers 225 vehicles with rear steer axle shafts that were not properly heat treated and may break, potentially disabling the vehicle and increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace axle shafts free of charge.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved safety recalls on the 2002 PIERCE ENFORCER might have protections under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a legal expert could help evaluate potential rights related to these issues.
