There are eight recalls addressing various safety and functional defects in the 2008 PIERCE DASH. These recalls cover multiple systems including structure, brakes, engine, steering, accelerator pedal, equipment mounting, electrical system software, and axle assembly. Each recall involves safety risks that could affect vehicle operation and occupant safety.
- Structure: Bumper hose tray latch. Recall 10V300000 affects 25 vehicles due to drop-down hose trays under the front bumper whose latches may open unexpectedly, causing hose deployment on the road. This poses risks of injury and distraction leading to crashes. Dealers will install a new hose box with an improved latch free of charge.
- Rear disc brake caliper interference. Recall 10V317000 impacts 45 vehicles where Meritor Wabco EX225 brake calipers may be restricted by automatic tire chain brackets, reducing braking performance unexpectedly and increasing crash risk. The fix installs new brackets for full caliper movement free of charge.
- Engine shutdown from filter over temperature. Recall 10V195000 covers 827 vehicles with Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines. Engines may shut down unexpectedly upon diesel particulate filter over temperature detection, risking rescue operation delays and public safety. Dealers will update engine control software to prevent shutdown while warning operators.
- Steering gear bracket fracture. Recall 10V423000 affects 2,652 vehicles where the steering gear bracket may break, causing complete loss of steering control and crash risk. Owners are instructed to inspect the bracket before use. The repair involves installing a new mounting bracket at no cost.
- Accelerator pedal arm bending. Recall 11V255000 involves 5,022 vehicles with electronic accelerator pedals. Excessive force may bend the pedal arm causing it to stick at full throttle, leading to loss of vehicle control. Dealers will replace the arm with a redesigned part free of charge.
- Cab tilt cylinder mount fatigue. Recall 13V525000 includes 3,115 vehicles where mounts for cab tilt cylinders may fail, allowing the cab to fall unexpectedly risking injury to anyone nearby. Dealers will install new safety signs warning operators to stay clear during cab tilting.
- Aerial device unexpected rotation. Recall 19V022000 covers 994 vehicles where the aerial ladder may rotate right unexpectedly during extension, risking collision with objects and injury. Dealers will reprogram the aerial control module free of charge.
- Rear steer axle shaft heat treatment. Recall 17V348000 affects 225 vehicles with electric all-steer rear steering. Axle shafts were not properly heat treated and may break disabling the vehicle and increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace the shafts at no charge.
