2025 PETERBILT 537 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2025 PETERBILT 537 has 1 complaint and 34 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the windshield wiper controls. The wipers switch from low speed to interval mode when using the turn signal, requiring repeated manipulation of the turn signal switch to restore proper wiper function.

Common Issues

  • Wiper control malfunction. When turned on low, the wipers switch to interval mode upon activating the turn signal. They stay in interval after the turn signal is off unless the switch is jiggled repeatedly to restore low speed.

The 34 recalls involve various vehicle systems, mainly steering, exterior lighting, software, and braking controls. These recalls address defects that affect safety-critical functions such as steering control, lighting visibility, and electronic braking systems.

Recalls

  • Steering gear assembly. Recall 24V044000 affects 45,887 trucks including 2024-2025 Peterbilt 537. Incorrect assembly with fewer recirculating balls may result in loss of steering control, raising crash risk. Dealers will inspect and replace steering gears at no charge.
  • Exterior lighting switch software. Recall 25V041000 covers 5,378 trucks including 2025 Peterbilt 537. Lighting switch failure disables hazard lights and instrument display brightness adjustment. This fails FMVSS 101 and 108 standards, increasing crash risk. Dealers will update software free of charge. Owners can temporarily reset the switch by cycling the key.
  • Lighting control module software. Recall 25V436000 impacts 56,260 vehicles including 2025 Peterbilt 537. Tail brake lights, headlights, reverse lights, and turn signals may not illuminate properly. Lift axles can move unexpectedly when warning lights activate. Dealers will update VCU software free of charge.
  • Electronic control unit software. Recall 24V915000 involves 220,764 trucks with Bendix EC80 ECU including 2025 Peterbilt 537. Electrical noise can cause ECU malfunction, affecting ABS, traction control, stability control, cruise control, and collision mitigation systems, increasing crash risk. Dealers will reprogram ECU software at no cost.
  • Tie rod and drag link assemblies. Recall 24V433000 affects 7,410 trucks including 2025 Peterbilt 537. Improperly heat-treated ball studs may break causing complete steering loss. Owners must not drive these vehicles until repair. Dealers will inspect and replace assemblies free of charge.

Owners with repeated repairs related to steering failures, lighting malfunctions, or software defects may want to explore their rights under state lemon laws. These laws might offer recourse when safety defects or unresolved recall issues persist despite repair attempts.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2024-2026 Kenworth T480, T680, T880, W990, Peterbilt 520, 536, 537, 548, 567, 579, 589, 2025 Kenworth T180, Peterbilt 535, 2025-2026 Kenworth T280, T380 and L770 vehicles. The tail brake light, upper and lower beam headlights, reverse light, and turn signal may not illuminate as intended. In addition, the lift axles, if lowered, may revert to a raised position, or oscillate up and down when the signal warning lights are activated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices and Associated Equipment."

Risk: Delayed and unsteady headlights can result in insufficient illumination of the road, decreasing the driver's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, an unexpected position change of the lift axles may increase the risk of injury.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS:SWITCH

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2025 Kenworth T180, Peterbilt 535, 567, 2025-2026 Kenworth T280, 2023-2026 Kenworth T380, 2024-2026 Kenworth T480, 2024-2026 Peterbilt 536, 537, and 548 trucks. The exterior lighting switch may fail, resulting in the hazard lights and the instrument display back-light brightness adjustment not functioning. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Control and Displays" and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices and Associated Equipment."

Risk: Inoperative hazard lights cannot alert other drivers as intended. In addition, the inability to adjust the brightness on the instrument panel display can make it difficult to see critical safety information or distract the driver. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2021-2025 Peterbilt and Kenworth vehicles, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU). Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop functioning.

Risk: Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may not function properly or at all, increasing the risk of a crash.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

When the wipers are turned on in the low speed, they switch to interval mode when the turn signal switch is activated. When the turn signal switch is in the off position, the wipers will remain on interval. To get the wipers back into the low setting, you have to jiggle the turn signal switch to get them to function properly. Sometimes this takes several attempts. All of these trucks in my employer’s ownership have the same issue with some being worse than others.
