Recalls
  • Service brakes check valve. Recall 12V026000 affects 15,932 vehicles equipped with Bendix ATR-6 relay valves that may leak internally in cold conditions, causing continuous brake application. This raises risks of brake overheating, fire, and loss of vehicle control. PACCAR provides a temporary repair free of charge.
  • Certification label errors. Recall 13V593000 covers 561 vehicles missing required axle weight rating and tire pressure info on certification labels. Incorrect or missing information can lead to axle overload and improper tire inflation, increasing crash risk. Peterbilt will replace labels at no cost.
  • Alternator charge cable chafing (Leece Neville). Recall 15V456000 involves 288 trucks where alternator cables may rub on metal freon lines, risking electrical shorts and fire. Dealers will reroute cables and install plastic insulators free of charge.
  • Front drum brake lining mismatch. Recall 14V145000 includes 474 trucks with brake linings not rated for their tire and axle configuration, potentially lengthening stopping distances. Dealers will install corrected linings free of charge.
  • Alternator charge cable chafing (Delco-Remy 40SI). Recall 15V270000 covers 1,494 trucks at risk of electrical shorts and fire due to alternator cables chafing against freon discharge lines. PACCAR will reroute cables free of charge.
  • Electronic stability control and ABS warning light software. Recall 20V199000 affects 460,515 vehicles with NAMUX software that may fail to illuminate ABS warning lights during power loss. This can leave drivers unaware of ABS inoperative status, raising crash risk. Dealers will update software free of charge.
  • Front axle tie rod end clamp bolts. Recall 15V108000 involves 5,141 trucks with potentially undertorqued clamp bolts that may corrode and loosen, risking loss of steering control. Dealers will replace tie rod assemblies if not already done, free of charge.
  • Tire and rim certification label errors. Recall 15V132000 affects 213,230 trucks with labels incorrectly listing tire pressure below required levels. Underinflated tires risk failure under load, increasing crash risk. Owners will receive corrected labels at no cost.
  • Tire inflation information and load capacity labels. Also under recall 15V132000, the same group of vehicles has labels failing compliance with federal standards, posing tire failure risks. Corrected labels will be mailed to owners free of charge.

Owners facing repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues with the 2013 PETERBILT 389 may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Those with safety defects or multiple recall repairs should consult legal guidance for possible protections.

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2008-2019 Peterbilt 330, 335, 337, 340, 348, 365, 367, 384, 386, 387, 388, 389, 567, 579 and 587 vehicles and 2008-2020 Kenworth T170, T270, T370, T660, T680, T800, T880, and W900 vehicles equipped with NAMUX Software. In the event that the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) loses battery and/or ignition power to the controller, the dash warning light for the ABS may not illuminate to warn the driver of the loss of ABS. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems," and 136, "Electronic Stability Control System on Heavy Vehicles."

Risk: If the driver unknowingly operates the vehicle without the ABS functioning, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

TIRES

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2006-2016 Peterbilt 587, 579, 567, 389, 388, 387, 385, 382, 379, 378, 367, 365 and 357 trucks manufactured July 25, 2005, to February 26, 2016. The affected vehicles may be equipped with Tire and Rim Certification Labels that list a tire pressure below the actual correct amount. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120, "Tire selection and rims and motor home/recreation vehicle trailer load carrying capacity information for motor vehicles with a GVWR of more than 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds)."

Risk: If the tires are underinflated due to the incorrect inflation pressure listed on the label, the truck may not be able to carry the maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) load listed without experiencing tire failure which would increase the risk of a crash.
