2021 PETERBILT 348 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2021 PETERBILT 348 has 0 complaints and 25 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners report issues related to multiple vehicle systems, primarily involving safety and mechanical components as outlined in the recall data.
There are 25 recalls affecting this vehicle, addressing several critical systems such as the electrical control units, fuel system, brakes, and axle assembly. These recalls highlight defects that could impact vehicle safety and performance.
Recalls- Electrical system ECU. NHTSA recall 24V915000 affects 220,764 vehicles due to electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier in Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units. Defects cause safety systems like ABS, traction control, and collision mitigation to malfunction or stop working, increasing crash risk. Dealers will reprogram the ECU software free of charge.
- Hydraulic brakes control module. Included in recall 24V915000, the brake system’s ECU malfunctions affect traction control and antilock braking, creating safety hazards. Reprogramming of ECU software is the required remedy at no cost to owners.
- Fuel rail sealing washer. Recall 21V391000 involves 612 vehicles with fuel rail washers that may not seat properly, causing fuel leaks. Fuel leaks near ignition sources increase fire risk. Dealers inspect and replace fuel rails if needed free of charge.
- Spring brake chamber springs. Recall 21V328000 covers 13 vehicles with incorrectly assembled springs that may allow the pressure plate to shift and tear the diaphragm, resulting in air pressure loss and crash risk. Dealers replace brake chambers at no cost.
- Air service brakes. Also part of recall 21V328000, faulty brake chamber springs risk diaphragm damage and air pressure loss, increasing crash potential. Replacement is done free of charge.
- Axle assembly pivot bolts. Recall 20V506000 applies to 1,097 vehicles with steerable lift axle suspensions where pivot bolts are too short to engage locking nuts securely. Loose bolts may separate from the suspension, posing road hazard risks and increasing crash or injury potential. Dealers inspect and replace bolts as needed free of charge.
Owners with repeated repairs, unresolved recalls, or safety-related defects should consider their rights under state lemon laws. Consulting legal resources may help address ongoing issues or defects not adequately repaired.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2021-2025 Peterbilt and Kenworth vehicles, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU). Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop functioning.
Risk: Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may not function properly or at all, increasing the risk of a crash.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM:FUEL RAIL
PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2018-2021 Peterbilt 337, 348, 365, 367, 520, 567, Kenworth T270, T370, T440, T470, T800 and T880 vehicles. The sealing washer may not seat correctly in the pilot bore holes, allowing the high pressure fuel rail assembly to leak.
Risk: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR
PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2021 Peterbilt 348 and 579 vehicles. The spring brake chamber may have been assembled with incorrect springs that were out of specification, which may cause the pressure plate to shift.
Risk: The pressure plate may tear the diaphragm, causing a loss of air pressure and increasing the risk of a crash.
2021 PETERBILT 348
1097 vehicles affected
POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY
PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Peterbilt 348, 365, 367, 389, 520, 567 and Kenworth T800, T880, W900, W990 vehicles equipped with Watson and Chalin steerable lift axle suspension systems (model SL2065). The axles may have lower rear pivot bolts that are not long enough to sufficiently engage the locking feature of the corresponding nuts.
Risk: The short screws can cause the hardware to separate from the suspension system and become road hazards, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury.
