2023 NISSAN TITAN Complaints and Recall Information

The 2023 NISSAN TITAN has 8 complaints and 8 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to unintended vehicle movement while in park, sudden jerking or lurching during low-speed braking, and malfunctions in the automatic braking system. Several complaints also describe unexpected activation of collision sensors and vibrations or shaking from the underside of the vehicle.

Common Issues
  • Unintended rollaway. The vehicle starts moving while the shifter is in park, with wheels turning and no warning indicators present, posing serious safety risks near pedestrians.
  • Sudden lurching at low speeds. The truck jerks forward when slowing to speeds between 5 and 10 MPH, sometimes causing the driver to feel as if rearended.
  • Automatic braking malfunctions. The front left wheel locks briefly and pulls sharply to the left, creating a loss of control during driving, especially on curves.
  • Forward collision sensor activation. The forward collision system randomly illuminates with no apparent cause, occurring more frequently in winter or rainy conditions.
  • Increased brake pedal force required. The vehicle pulls forward through normal braking, requiring extra force to avoid collisions, occurring inconsistently but often enough to raise concerns.
  • Shaking and vibration. A loose or unstable feeling on the underside of the truck is reported by multiple owners, with vibrations occurring during driving.
  • Brake system warning signs. Front crash detector symbols illuminate briefly during braking malfunctions, but dealers have been unable to replicate or resolve the problem after multiple inspections.

There are 8 recalls involving the 2023 Nissan Titan that affect various components and systems. These recalls address defects that could impact vehicle safety and operation. Some recalls involve tire defects that may cause sudden air loss, affecting the vehicle’s handling and stability.

Recalls
  • Tires: bead defect. NHTSA recall 23V273000 affects 4,249 vehicles. Torn inner tire beads may cause rapid tire pressure loss, resulting in loss of vehicle control and an increased crash risk. Dealers will replace all four road tires or inspect and replace the spare tire assembly free of charge. Owner notifications were mailed starting June 10, 2023.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved safety defects related to braking, unintended movement, or recall issues may have rights under state lemon law provisions. Legal consultation could help clarify available remedies for persistent safety concerns.

POWER TRAIN

When coming to a stop, my truck will lurch forward and will pull through normal braking, requiring increased braking pedal force to avoid a front collision. This does not happen at every stop, but often enough to be extremly concerning. This has been occurring since I bought the truck new. Truck now has just under 5,000 miles on the odometer and has not improved. I need a solution as I cannot allow anyone in my family to drive my truck for fear of accident.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

I have a 2023 Nissan Titan XD 4x4. Recently I have experienced a major malfunction with the automatic braking system. While driving the vehicle I have experienced several times that the front left wheel is locking up briefly and pulling me sharply to the left. I have almost slid into other vehicles and guardrails during this malfunction. I immediately brought it to my local Nissan dealer,(Coggin Nissan) in Jacksonville Fl. and reported the problem on three occasions. They offered no findings or solutions to correct the problem. They take it for a short test drive and state everything is working properly. I explained this is a random problem and usually occurs when taking right hand curves and has caused me to lose control of the vehicle. Nothing has been done by the dealer to remedy the problem though most online forums point to a wheel speed sensor. I have also relayed that when its raining and this happens the front crash detector symbol illuminates briefly and I've shown them a picture taken from my cell phone. I feel any further driving of this vehicle puts myself, my family and other drivers at risk.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Bought my 2023 Nissan Titan Pro-4x from dealership May of 2023. Never been involved in a collision. So there should be no reason it feels as if something is loose on the underside. There have been similar reports of this vibration/shaking such as this one: “Nissan Titan Pro-4X 4WD was bought new from dealership. Have had issues with the truck downshifting hard when slowing down since purchase. The truck lurches forward under 5MPH - 10MPH and feels like you are being rearended by another vehicle. Identical issue to NHTSA complaints 11578467 and 11539769.” I have also had it happen once so far. I have been driving no more than maybe 10MPH and it recognized something in front of the sensor and the truck slammed on the brakes to a stop. Mind you I was in an empty parking lot. On long drives, my forward collision sensor will randomly illuminate for no reason. It was do it in all season but more frequently in the winter. I used to own a 2017 Nissan Titan SV. Never once had an issue. I’m not sure what’s going on with Nissans quality control but this is insane. I would honestly like some sort of remedy before I have no other choice than to trade the truck in..

POWER TRAIN

While in PARK, my 2023 Nissan Titan inexplicably started rolling away as I was getting my mail from my mailbox. It traveled down my driveway, over a railroad tie border, deflected off of a tree, and eventually came to a stop when it became wedged under a pine tree. The wheels were turning. The vehicle was not sliding. There was snow and I recorded the impressions of the tire tread in the snow. Furthermore, when I got into the vehicle to back it out, the vehicle's shifter was still in PARK. I put it in reverse, backed it out from under the tree, and was able to drive it to my parking pad. The vehicle is available for inspection. My safety was put in risk because the only thing I could have done is chase after and attempt to jump back into the driver's seat (the door was still open). I thought better of taking such a risk and did not do so. Had my children been outside, they could have been run over by my truck. They would have had no idea I wasn't driving it, and -- as stated -- the truck drove itself over the railroad tie and into my yard. The problem has not been reproduced, but Nissan had a recall of similar vehicles that took multiple attempts to replicate. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer (Nissan), and Nissan has said they are not at fault. The Titan has also been inspected by my insurance company. There were no warning lamps, and no warning of any type. I heard the crunching snow on the way back from my mailbox, looked at where the noise was coming from (rear driver's side wheel), and saw it was turning.
